    @ Quick

Hey man don’t feel bad, we all have bad days. Felt bad when they were booing you, that bronx cheer was the worst.

Your team had 6 shots on goal in two periods. You got no help today!

Beat them ducks on saturday and they will love you again.

@Fernando, Agree, those fairweather idiots wouldn’t know hockey if it kicked em in the pants. tough game, we still know youre the man quickie… It was sad to see the stands empty like that before the game was even over. Thats the nature of LA fans, stick to watching the lakers you lot of pile-ons.

By Murray’s attitude after the game, I’m guessing it won’t be a bag skate. Frankly, as disturbing as the performance was, it’s understandable. What they need is encouragement to keep their chins up and to PLAY like a team that deserves to keep their chins up. That means keeping their “serious” face on now that they’re comfy at home.

@What’s the frequency, Kenneth?, I totally agree. Even the greatest of teams have their bad games. We cant expect them to go 82-0. Saturday is another day, another game. Lets come back fresh and motivated to beat the ducks

  6. Cynic says:

*Repost RE: Terry Murray’s Comments* (I can’t let it go. It was deplorable)

    I’ll say it VERY Succinctly..

If Terry Murray has to point his disappointment and frustration of the lack of effort shown tonight at the FANS instead of his TEAM which HE is responsible for…..

    ….Terry Murray should quit coaching.

He’s a damn good coach. He shouldn’t be fired. He should LEAVE on his own. His actions show me that he either no longer has the will or the toughness to put the screws to his team for their mistakes.

Terry – The fans are not paid PROFESSIONALS that play a game or coach it for a living. If you want a PROFESSIONAL attitude from the fans, PAY THEM to watch that sorry excuse for an effort tonight. You sir, are WAY out of line to believe that people who PAY to see a game live THAT NIGHT and get something completely different should be holding on to what they DIDN’T see live and just ignore the current product they actually PAID to see.

Get your head right coach. It may have been disappointing, but you get what you earn. The team EARNED those boos tonight. Quick at least tried. He’s the one guy I would exclude from those boos tonight, even with the 90 footer allowed. He had to be deflated from standing on his yam bag 90% of the game.

By the way, the tank should not be empty after a day and a half of rest. I don’t buy that for one minute. The Blues were on 24 hours of ‘Rest’ and whipped our team like redheaded stepchildren tonight. Detroit’s tank would not have been empty. Vancouver’s tank would not have been empty. You want to be great? be responsible enough to make sure your team’s tank is damn well filled EVERY GAME! That is your job and nobody should have to tell you that as long as you’ve been around the NHL.

Excuses make Martyrs. Martyrs DON’T win championships Terry. Don’t sacrifice the confidence of this team with excuses like ‘The tank is empty’. That’s more embarassing than 16,000+ booing your team for a good reason.

Quit protecting these guys so much. They are all adults, albeit it most of them young ones. They gotta learn sometime. Let ‘em learn. I hope you’re rethinking your statement. I’d like a retraction.

Ready for the Cup in LA Reply:

@Cynic, I wonder if he will be forced to aplogize. I see the pressure coming more from Luc or the business side rather than Lombardi.

This can’t be the worse. Philly fans were probably worse while Florida fans probably didn’t even know who he was. It’s an emotional game, hate them tonight… Love them after they beat the Ducks. Hopefully it will be a full love fest, players/coaches/fans/everyone in a couple of months.

    nykingfan Reply:

    @Cynic,

Fans have a right to boo…but that doesn’t make it right..especially after what this team has done recently. I’m sure they’re not happy with themselves and how they played, but it can’t be a good feeling to have your own turn on you like that.
They played a terrible game, but so does every team in the NHL.
What the fans did was attempt to humiliate their own players after 2 periods.
You don’t think the Blues players were laughing after hearing the boos?
They were probably also saying…we don’t get booed like that at home, and we’re not even in the playoff hunt.

As a fan, I was embarrassed by the boos being thrown at our guys by their own “loyal fans”
They’ve done so much good this year and because of 2 horrible periods, they get humiliated.
    Sorry..Murray’s right.
    It was a total embarrassment.
The players will get over it quickly, but things like that i’m sure linger in the minds..they’re only human.
I know what my attitude would be the next time they’re cheered…Under my breath it would be a giant FU to the fans….They’re professionals and probably wouldn’t think that..too bad.

@nykingfan, You are wrong ! The fans are paying a lots of money to see a 100% efforts not garbage. I would not collect a paycheck for this game, and the fans should be able to get their money back. Cynic is 100% right
The kings where out hit out hassle every aspect of the game by a team who played 24 hours before. After a great road trip come home and play like this is a joke. Only the Kings can make look good a very bad road team like the blues. The coach ?? He is changing lines more than a vegas black jack dealer cards. The fans are paying to see the team gives their best, after that no matter loose or win, they will earn the fans respect.
DL said they team deserved a strong powerful forward, no Dean that is your job to make the team better..
I agree it was a great trade after years of waiting, he had good picks but no trade before that.

    nykingfan Reply:

    @johnny,

    I don’t think I’m wrong at all
What you’re telling me is all of those years that this team sucked and looked like they sleepwalked thru games, you deserve a refund?
Do the Oilers fans deserve refunds for the games they get blown out of?
As a fan, you have the right to boo…You also have the right to cheer when someone gets maimed on the ice….Whether you choose to act in a classless manner is up to each individual fan.
This team played their butts off on the road…because of that, they’ve put themselves in a good position to allow those “fans” to atend playoff games. Something that’s been a rarity with this organization. This same team that gave the “fans” a chance to see playoff games last year as well.
They throw in one clunker, and now they suck and worthy of being booed?
    Classless act!
Now you have an isssue with the coach?
Did you complain about him during the 4 game road trip?
if you didn’t, don’t do it now…it’s pathetic!

very frustrating when you see people turn on their own so quickly.

    Cynic Reply:

@KFII, By the way…NOBODY was or is turning on the Kings guys. I can guarantee that ost of those that did NOT boo are the ones who didn’t care or were rooting for the Blues. When you love a team and you’re proud of what it can do, especially after seeing them do it for 4 straight games on the road, and them pay to watch them tank and cower like that is deplorable and embarassing.

The players by their reactions in their interviews COMPLETELY understand it and seemed like they know they deserved it. They KNOW they disappointed the fans and probably feel bad about it. Why can they get it and you don’t?

They also know the way to make it right is to come back and spank the Ducks Saturday, which I am fully expecting.

    Dave's a Killer Reply:

@nykingfan, I agree that the booing was inappropriate but, unfortunately, TM did not keep the “expletive” under his breath and I cannot condone his reaction.

    [Reply]

    Cynic Reply:

@nykingfan, I’ll say the same thing I said to another poster about this. Would it look any better or make the team feel any better if we CHEERED them off the ice after that dismal effort? HOW RIDICULOUS WOULD THAT LOOK?!?! Should we have sat in stunned silence, completely quiet? That would be WORSE! It would show we don’t CARE how they play.

There is a place for booing in any professional sport. If everyone voiced their displeasure with their own words all at the same time, you’d get a lot of noise, but nothing the team could understand. It would not be effective. Booing shows the team (And about 90%+ IMHO were doing this last night) that we CARE about how they play and WE EXPECT BETTER because we BELIEVE IN THEM! We’re trying to wake them up.

Professionals GET PAID to be professional. Kings fans PAY to see the best product possible put on the ice EVERY SINGLE GAME! There has to be some accountability there, otherwise NOBODY WILL PAY TO SEE THEM and the team will go away! The coach is ultimately responsible for this. I can commend Terry Murray for wanting to defend his players, but last night’s performance was NOT defendable.

You are only as good as your latest game in PROFESSIONAL sports. There is a lot of money and jobs that support families involved. Yes, you should have fun, but there is a HUGE responsibility to be prepared as a PROFESSIONAL athlete each and every game and night. The team was not prepared, Terry Murray had 2 intermissions to fix that and was not effective.

THAT IS THE PROBLEM! That should be booed.

Look at it this way. People were booing Terry Murray instead of the team for not preparing them properly for this game and not effectively salvaging an opportunity that Jonathon Quick was providing to still get 2 points. Is it any different now?

You’re a cool guy and always have been, but you need to realize that passion is not always a controllable emotion and the fans are PAYING (Which legally, not morally, equals the right) to show it how they wish. You may not like it, but morally, you MUST respct the process.

    [Reply]

    Troy Byrne Reply:

@Cynic, I total agree. TM comments was BS! We as fans expect to see our team come out and play. We as fan do not pay good money for good seats to watch our team fall flat on its face. I hope that boos seats in good and deep. I want the team to know as long as they where the crown on there chest we expect them to play up to the caliber of the NHL. That attatude will go no where in the playoffs and if they keep it up then they will be playing golf in the middle of next month. We love our Kings. We have waited too long and want to see the cut raised above there heads. The players need to know that they are playing for the fans.

Now. That game is done. It is over. We have another big game coming up this weekend. The loss yesterday sucked, it was painful to watch. I have all the confidence in the world that we can step up to the plate and bring out “A” game. 100% effort. That is what it is gonna take to take our season into the post season.

Stop whinning TM. The Kings won four games in a row on the road and we are suppose to put out a red carpet for the team. Stop blamming the fans and start blamming yourself for not having the team ready. The Lakers who have won multiple championships get booed for terrible performance. The Kings have not even won a first round playoff series. Show us something before you ask for the red carpet.

  8. Capt Jam says:

Agreed. Several good point about TM’s childish and immature behavior. I mean, really, TM’s credibility just dropped to that of the average Insider poster.

If it were up to me, I’d put the boys in a hotel tomorrow afternoon and try to get back some of the road vibe with a team dinner and a session to review some recent numbers – both Kings and Ducks (the Kings have generated far too few shots on net for 2 games in a row now). Actually, I would’ve approached the STL game that way and eased them back into the home stand rather than just turning them loose upon returning to L.A. after such a wildly successful trip.

@Capt Jam, Concur with your idea about the hotel.
Taking it a step (or two) further, I’d continue the goalie rotation, sit Smith in the pressbox, next to Westgarth, and remind the players that they’ve not yet reached the playoffs. Hold a team meeting to show some video highlights of the style of play that made them successful in the recent past and let them know that the majority of the Kings fans are loyal, reliable, and itching to turn the boos into wild celebration this next game when they show up to spank the Ducks! Oh, and TM, the customer is always right!

  9. Scot says:

I’m not being Mr. Negative.. I love our team.. I have nothing but positive things to say. What is frustrating about it is that it felt like we had lost this game before it started. I saw so many posts on the blog today that people were “worried about a bad game tonight,” and you know what? I was too! But I didn’t want to say it, because I wanted to be positive and hoped that there was a chance we could win it.

But it’s almost too obvious. After playing SO WELL in tough buildings 4 straight games, it’s almost a guarantee to come out flat in the first home game against a bad team. Ok, a “non-playoff” team, with an elite goaltender. It’s just too obvious. That’s why it’s frustrating. It is like it’s the Kings M.O., to lose that game tonight, that’s the way this team is.

But, with that being said, I think the players will come out pretty hard against Anaheim. I had a feeling tonight would be bad, but I have the same type of feeling that Saturday night will be good. Good night folks. GKG.

I’m not sure if English is your first language or not, but that was really well articulated.

And I agree, they have the right attitudes, and are very hard working if you look at the team as a whole. I just wish they would stop playing so well on the road, only to take a dump on the fans when they get home. Fans probably scrounged for 300-level tickets to this game, just to see this team that was playing so well, in person. And maybe to see the green practice jerseys. And they get treated to a goal from center ice.

  11. Dominick says:

I can’t see blaming the players. Every aspect of the game was well scouted out. The kings were stopped in every single aspect of the game, from line changes to forechecking. There wasn’t a single aspect that wasn’t exposed negatively. Scuderi tried to take the blame by putting fourth the ridiculous notion that some how all the players slumped at the same time.

The Booing didn’t bother me, but fans complaining because TM was upset about it (even though he didn’t actually say anything wrong) was depressing.

Also as soon as Cliffy got hurt, fans started saying that’s why we need Westy in the line up. Bless their hearts, and good intentions, but you know what? Westy was in the line up tonight and Cliffy still faught, and got hurt. so Westy didn’t deter anything there. One thing that did happen is that with Cliffy out Westy played even more.

Overall I think tonight happened because the Kings had the day off when they came back home, and didn’t scout St.Louis out properly. St.Louis scouted the Kings out and they executed their game plan perfectly. I hope the Kings coaching staff knows what to expect from the Ducks and will be ready, because the Ducks will be ready for the Kings.

Also Quick was under siege and handled it like a real trooper. Eventually he was going to break down too.

They were all over the ice, faster than any of your players. I don’t know what difference Rechardson could have made by himself but he sure could add some speed for the both sides of the game. Well, what’s done is done. Please, be prepared for the next game.

  14. Well, that was rough tonight.

I think if the Kings played with some heart they would not have gotten booed. The thing is…they didn’t even seem to try. Aside from Quick, of course. He was fantastic for 38 minutes.

But, when you are the goalie and your team can only get 6 shots on goal in all that time it must be incredibly hard to stay focused and hold on and not give up some crappy goals.

I don’t think Quick should have been booed or mocked late in the game whenever he stopped the puck. It is not as though he had anything to do with the loss.

That was the rest of the team, the players that need to score some goals…at least make an attept to score some goals…losing the game.

Anyhow, thanks for the quotes, Rich.

Hopefully, Saturday is a complete turn around…as it probably will be now that the team remembers there is no such thing as an easy game. Even after winning 4 in a row on the road against tough teams.

Credit to the Blues for playing a terrific game, but these things happen over an 82 game schedule. You can’t go undefeated…It shouldn’t be a complete surprise after that road trip and the huge Anaheim game coming up Saturday….
    These things happen.

  16. number 6 says:

Here’s my take for what it’s worth. Yes, Chicago got manhandled last night (on the road though).
Thing is, it’s not like this only happened once or twice this year. They played a very poor game vs. the Isles on their road trip where, while not as poor as last night was still not a reasonable effort.
They are not by any means slotted in to a playoff position and could conceivably end up in the 8th spot which as we all know means hello vancouver. I don’t see anyone beating vancouver in the first round this year.

Also, I made a small post last night making reference to all the hubbub that goes on at the start of each period at Staples with the lasers, music, video and all. It’s like the Lakers in the nba finals. I think that when there is such a huge gap between the hype (which no matter How they perform is too much) and a dismal performance by the team, to me this would only serve to make a bad performance look all the worse, and henceforth a not nice response by the fans, merited or not.

  17. Mass Kings Fan says:

I knew it. I hate to say it, but everyone saw this stinker coming. Too relaxed and too proud of themselves after the road trip. All the positive pub they got on Vs and NHLN, I saw it coming. They were clearly ripe for this type of game. What scares me is how streaky the Kings are, does this mean they go into the tank again over this homestand?

TM doesn’t pay over $50 to come to STAPLES so he doesn’t understand that paying fans demand something out of their team. If he doesn’t, he’s clearly out of touch with reality.

Is Ryan Smyth ever going to score again?

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

    @Mass Kings Fan,
Not trying to make your sacrifice any less, or compare your sacrifice to his, but I suspect he probably puts in 70 to 100 hours a week working, and traveling for the Kings. Fans should take that into consideration when booing him, or any of the Kings. I’m not justifying anything, but I’d be upset too. Our sacrifices are hard to make when we’ve invested our passions, and hard earned cash for the Kings too, but how you liked to be booed for it.

I don’t think he’s out of touch, just human.

OK, we can all debate the rights and wrongs with booing. Everyone has a point except those making it personal. I think there was a post that called the boo birds “terrible human beings”. Not cool. BUT, let’s step back and just witness the number and the passion of all the fans. We can disagree, yes!! But we’re helping put this team solidly on the map in LA. Not really the case since the Gretzky years. I was worried back then that Grtez was bigger than the Kings. This time, the team’s success will make the Kings “LA’s Team”. USC and their scandals, don’t get me started on the McCourts. I’m proud to be a King’s fan, especially now (in spite of spankings like last night)

    My off-topic 2 cents

  19. johnny says:

TM….. Disappointing of the fans booing? It is a disappointment that players get millions of dollars and put a garbage on ice like this. Only the kings can make a very bad road team looking good specially the road team played 24 hours before.
After the game TM said “it is nothing to explain” Well may be we should ask the maintenance crew what happened.
This coach is juggles his lines more than anybody in the NHL.. I would not be shocked if we see Lucky back in the line up.
After this game I would not collect a paycheck and give the fans their money back, I do understand you loose games but the fans got the right to demand a 100% effort.
