A couple of random items this morning…
First, the Kings will be wearing special green jerseys during warmups before tomorrow night’s St. Patrick’s Day game against St. Louis, and the jerseys will then be autographed and auctioned for charity. Proceeds will benefit the Kings Care Foundation and the American Red Cross’ efforts in support of Japan’s disaster victims. Bids for the jerseys can be made at the game, at a booth near section 103, and online at lakings.com and auction.nhl.com.
Also, a couple interviews. Kings goalie coach Bill Ranford was a guest yesterday on SiriusXM’s “Power Play” show, and that interview is available by clicking here. Dean Lombardi was a guest this morning on the SiriusXM/NHL Network’s “NHL Live” show, and the video is below…
the KINGS have only allowed more than 3 goals twice in the last 29 games. (allowed 4 on OT vs dallas, and 7 vs detroit). 29 games! oh yea!

@Stone, Nicely done. That is an incredible achievement. Too bad it’s also spoiled Kingsfans to the point where they freak out and want to get rid of the goalies every time they let 1 in. LOL

In reference to the postgame stats – Rich, I’m confused. Are the BAD statistics listed separately or something?
Wooohoooo!

Interesting interview. In justifying his position on the Chara matter, Deano incorrectly draws an analogy between the effect of established legal precedent on subsequent legal cases and the effect of applying game rule changes to future incidents.

@Capt Jam, And I still completely disagree with your stance.
He is absolutely correct. You cannot take this as a one incident thing, and you MUST look at the entire picture.
Not to mention I disagree with the majority argument on the hit itself.

@mrbrett7,
What’s the majority argument?
My own view is that the stanchion’s location is itself evidence of negligent design. Had there been the standard plexiglass where the stanchion was, no arguments would be necessary.

@tuan jim, The majority argument is that not only should Chara should have been suspended, but that what he did was on purpose, and in a blatant intent to injure Pacioretty.
I brought up the stantion, as well as our very own Jack Johnson making a very similar play against Ryan Smyth when he was with the Avalanche, and a similar result incurred.
It’s a shame Pacioretty is injured, especially in the way that he is. Yes, Charra did go out of his way to hit him. I’m not going to argue that point. I do not believe that there was any intent for the result that happened.
I do believe that Chara is one of those guys who really doesn’t understant just how big he is, BUT, I also believe (as does our own Assistant GM, as he said regarding a different incident) that there is just as much honus is on the player getting hit as there is the person hitting in these situations. Players today more often than not put themselves into situations where they can get hurt. Put their head down going into a corner, etc. Just as much as it’s on the guy hitting them, it’s ALSO on the guy getting hit to learn you simply can’t do that. Walls don’t move, but your head and neck do!
It’s not as cut and dry as some would have you think. Hockey is an extremely physical sport, and one wehre there is no out of bounds to “save” you.
This also has nothing to do with “head shot”. Targeting another players head on purpose (i.e. Carter on Booth last year, Cooke on Savard, etc.), now that needs to be dealt with, and severly. To me, those two individual plays were blatant disregard for your fellow man, and an obvious attempt to injure. Since the league won’t allow “ice justice” any longer (you never saw these types of hits before the insitgator rule), then they must stand up and take care of it off of the ice. Year long suspensions for repeat offenders…make sure these guys know this won’t be tolerated.

@Capt Jam,
Wha? I don’t think DL was faroomphing about stare decisis and fresh legislative enactments. He just used the expression “precedent” in the context of creating a rule change that would encompass as much of the triggering problem as possible.
To quote Oliver Wendell Holmes: “There oughta be a better reason for a rule of law than that it was laid down in the time of Lester Patrick.”

we love our GM!

Whatever he says, I just think Dean is a very erudite and interesting man with a lot of depth….
and I’m glad that someone like that is running our team.
Also, Lou Lamoriello, he may sound like a New Yorka or whatever his accent is, but that’s another very very intelligent man who sees the big picture. That was our problem before…. our earlier GM’s had good moments (some of em) but didn’t see the bigger picture the way these guys do.
Huge kudos to the Kings on Versus Overtime tonight. Only criticism at all was by Billy Jaffe who said he loves the team but thinks they still need more speed.

Didn’t Button have beef with DL after the JJ University of Michigan ordeal?

Did he say we’re going on a 5 game road trip? Unless this is old, that’s a mistake. We are about to to start a 5 game home stand.
