Kings 1, Rangers 0

The Kings opened the scoring with a power-play goal — their first in the last five games — at the 5:25 mark. Jack Johnson brought the puck into the offensive zone and pushed it up to Justin Williams, who found Dustin Brown with open ice. Brown, in the slot, spun and shot high, and beat [...]

Scouting the Rangers

This is the only meeting of the season between the Kings and the New York Rangers. The Rangers broke an 0-5-1 skid on Sunday when they beat Pittsburgh, and the Rangers are coming off three consecutive days off at home. The Rangers enter the game ranked 23rd in the NHL in power-play efficiency and ranked [...]

Growing process continues for Loktionov

As noted earlier, Andrei Loktionov had the first multi-point game of his career last night. Loktionov certainly seems more comfortable back at his natural position of center, and has been playing on a line with Kyle Clifford and Dustin Brown. Loktionov scored a big goal, but also had an “uh-oh” moment in the first period, [...]

Traffic jam in Pacific Division

How ridiculous is the Pacific Division right now? By the end of tonight, any of three teams — Phoenix, San Jose or the Kings — could be in first place in the division. Phoenix is currently in first place with 69 points, followed by San Jose, Anaheim and Dallas with 68 points and the Kings [...]

Kings Fantasy Camp information

For those interested, there are only a handful of spots left open for the Kings’ “Fantasy Camp,” which will be held March 4-6 at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo and at Staples Center. The event is scheduled to include on-ice practice sessions and games with Luc Robitaille, Marty McSorley, Marcel Dionne, Rob Blake, [...]

Matt Greene gets offensive

Matt Greene knows he’s not kidding anyone on the ice. He’s neither the swiftest skater nor the deftest puck-handler. Greene makes his money with physical, stay-at-home play, but last night, Greene made a big impact in the offensive zone. With the game tied 1-1, with about seven minutes remaining in the second period, Greene had [...]

Tonight’s lineup: Richardson for Westgarth

The Kings are expected to make one lineup change tonight, with Brad Richardson replacing Kevin Westgarth on the fourth line. Also, as previously announced, Jonathan Bernier will start in goal. Only a handful of players went to the arena this morning to skate — healthy scratches from last night and those who didn’t get significant [...]

Postgame notes (Feb. 16)

Some notes from last night’s game… – The Kings claimed at least one point in their 10th consecutive game as they beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 in a shootout on Wednesday night at Nationwide Arena. – Jarret Stoll scored in the second round of the shootout, and Jonathan Quick made three saves for the [...]

Morning in New York (Manhattan version)

Here’s the morning view from a truly remarkable city. If you’ve never been to New York — which I hadn’t, until a couple years ago — there’s really nothing that you can see on TV or in magazines that compares to seeing it live. It’s not everyone’s thing, but even if you don’t like it, [...]

The view from Columbus

The Kings and Columbus Blue Jackets were both able to extract something positive out of last night’s game. The Kings got two points with the shootout win and improved to 8-0-2 in their last 10 games while the Blue Jackets scored a late goal in order to secure one point, and moved to 5-1-1 in [...]

Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts… (on recording another road win…) MURRAY: “We had two days to recover and get ready for maybe the biggest game of the year. A conference game, and both teams are trying to push themselves into the playoffs. I liked our first period. I thought that was a good start, and then [...]

Quick postgame quotes

Jonathan Quick’s postgame thoughts… (on his shootout success…) QUICK: “Those can go either way, honestly. We’re extremely fortunate as a team this year, the way they’ve been turning out. At the end of the day, it’s two points. That’s all that matters.” (on his poke-check in the shootout…) QUICK: “He kind of had his head [...]

Bernier to start vs. Rangers

After the game, coach Terry Murray announced that Jonathan Bernier will start in goal tomorrow night against the New York Rangers.

Stoll postgame quotes

Jarret Stoll’s postgame thoughts… (on his shootout goal…) STOLL: “That was kind of my first option. I knew he challenges. He comes out pretty hard and pretty fast. I played with him in Edmonton for one season, and he was 30-for-33. I’ve seen so many people deke him and deke him, and he’s so athletic [...]

Greene postgame quotes

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on his rush and assist…) GREENE: “I didn’t know where I was passing it or anything. I just kind of threw it and tried to bank it off him [Garon] and it went through.” (on the win…) GREENE: “It was huge. Obviously we didn’t want to give them the one point, [...]
