Can we trade PP coach with the Red Wings?
[Reply]
Heenan Reply:
February 28th, 2011 at 10:40 pm
@goldielocks,
How shall I say this?
Not while Terry Murray is our coach.
On the plus side, at least we took lots of shots and our net presence was “good”.
Oh well, bad games happen.
Dustin Penner should help, we’re not nearly as bad as we looked, but if we’re going to win the Stanley Cup ( and that’s my target ), we’re going to have to be firing on all cylinders.
I feel our coaching cylinder fire pretty well on the defensive side, but don’t have a clue on the offensive side.
If, for some strange reason, the Kings and Red Wings were to switch coaching staffs, I think the Red wings would set a record by only giving up eight goals all season. Unfortunately, they would be eliminated in the first round by ( insert team nmame here ) who would score five goals.
I don’t know who would win the cup, but it wouldn’t be the Wings.
Oh well, I lived through George McGuire, I doubt Terry Murray will kill me.

@Heenan, They’re talking about fighting. You can’t throw without a willing opponent. As far as no one hitting, Greene had a nice one and got a bs penalty for it. Wasn’t a terrible effort tonight, Wings brought their “A” game and we fell short. Nothing to be too worried about here, I like the pride goals in the end.
We lost this game because of bad coaching…TM should have pulled Quickie no later than the 3rd goal…it was obvious he was a little off kilter.

@KellyHrudey, Sometimes when your players cant be great, and its not going your way,you need a coach to be the extra man. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THIS SEASON WHERE AT THE 4 GOAL MARK, THERE WAS NO DOUBT THE GOALIE NEEDED TO BE PULLED INSTEAD HE LET THEM GET SHELLED. I believe in those 3 games the kings scored 4 to 5 goals but gave up 6 to 7 goals.
This is where you need a coach to “coach” and manage the bleeding, to possibly alter the outcome. Shame on Terry Murray for not pulling out the stops, and instead opting for playing the predictable lets ride it out, until its futile playbook.

Hey we can,t win them all we had a very good month of february lets forget this one and move on to the next game.

The Wings PP is amazing. Great puck movement, skaters moving creating open lanes for great scoring chances. All of their movement has us scrambling around chasing the puck leaving holes all over the place.
And their never settle for a shot from the point. That’s all we ever get!!!
Our PK is very good but they pick it apart.

It was a tough and disappointing loss. But the light at the end of the tunnel is that we scored three in the third. It’s the difference between a devastating loss and one that is less impacting emotionally.
Also, even if it was a 7-1 loss, the addition of Penner and the re-signing of Willie would lessen the impact as well.
Conclusion: this is not the beginning of a losing-streak for the kings.

On the other hand, the Dead Things have nothing much to crow about. I think most on here can agree this was just a weird game. I thought they actually played pretty well to start off. Seemed like the killer momentum shift was definitely the phantom call against Greener, and then it doubled on the waist high “high stick” against Stoll. Quicker was off tonight. Looked like he was way too ahead of the play in his mind all night. Probably was having a mild panic attack, thinking he was going to face another 51 shots tonight. Oh well, He’ll be just fine. My guess is he pitches a shutout against Phoenix to make up for it.
Can’t wait to see Penner alongside Kopi. I’d like to see JW move up alongside them. Would be our most skilled and creative line. Two big bodies, and one guy to dart around. Could be good stuff.
[Reply]
Did anybody hear my friends and I chant Howard at the end? … Hey gave up two more goals after
[Reply]
Give Detroit an inch and they’ll score seven goals. As much as I don’t like it (team buy mainly their fans) they are super deep and still cup contenders for sure. The loss was a bummer but am more concerned that it was at home. We have to find our game at Staples. Don’t much care that we padded the stats at the end, if you’re up by six goals with ten minutes it is natural to sit back and relax.
[Reply]
This is what happens when a defense first club gets shaky goal tending and falls behind a skilled veteran team that had not forgotten a 5-0 shut out in their barn.We have to forget this one fast and play our system.

Quick was bad tonight – he’s allowed one bad game every now and then. shake it off, this can’t turn into a losing streak. i thought they actually played well, especially in the first period.

Ok first of all why is jack johnson -plus/minus numbers never discussed… He has one of the top points but still has -10… This shows hes breaking down defensively.. Yea he will learn but why are guys like martinez and drewiske getting called out but not the invisible johnson…
Secondly… Guys like clifford, richardson, lewis, johnson are always on the ice when people score… A guy with – like richardson should not be on the #1 line.. You cannot afford to have blown coverage against other teams top lines
williams, kopi, brown, scuderi, doughty are top +/- on the team.. Play them the most.. Yea brown may not score much but when hes on the ice we are +19… He should never be on #3 line because of his value on the ice… Kopi is +21 duh.. williams and doughty also up there… although williams blows a few coverages he makes up for in goals lol

@jason, I know what you’re saying, but Johnson is going to have these things happen because of his style of play. Its a give and take with him. Sometimes he better than at other times, but again, his style of play is going to create offensive cvhances for the other team. Martinez and Drewiske get called out, if they actually do, because they are young and need to learn from their mistakes. Plus, they are not in the same league with Johnson, as far as talent goes. I will admit, Johnson does have his moments when he takes shifts off, but his upside is still far greater than most D-men in the league.
