End of second: Red Wings 4-1

Detroit’s second power-play goal of the game gave the Red Wings a three-goal lead with 42 seconds remaining in the second period. Pavel Datsyuk skated the puck to the middle of the left circle and beat Quick with a sharp wrist shot to the far corner of the net as the Red Wings took a 4-1 lead.

Quick has been shaky. Coughing up the puck a few times, didn’t like the first 2 goals. Lets see what were made of in the third.

Anyone still claiming the Kings didn’t show up tonight is just flat out wrong. The first period was a better period but the effort has been there in spades. Just not our night, I guess.

Well, the Wings are hitting their shots and getting some lucky bounces while we are working hard but not getting the bounces. We need the 2 points so lets hang in there and see if we can get them back.

Kings are playing a really good game. Not showing up? Didn’t come? No chance. Stoll’s dumb penalties and early sloppy play by Quick is the difference. Make those errors against the Wings and you’re done.

I know he has a goal tonight and I love how he came all the way back from a major knee injury, but Zeus just has some really pitiful looking over the hill moments out there. Did you see him go swimming after Datsyuk at the blue line? By doing that, he made it a 5 on 3 and let Datsyuk walk right in to a perfect scoring area.
The Wings make a point of hitting Doughty and Kopitar. It’d be nice to get some hits on Lidstrom, Datsyuk and Zetterberg.

I can be critical at times, but the effort has been there, just not th Kings night. This does not look like the team that sucked during the 8 game homestand. Just a few mistakes being taken advantage by a good team.

I think the Kings are playing hard but so is Detroit and the Kings aren’t getting the bounces. I actually think we look better than we did the game that we WON in Detroit when Quick stood on his end. Wish we played anyone but Phoenix next though….

Let’s recap:

The first two goals against, Quick will want back.
The third goal had eyes and somehow got through about seven sets of legs.
The fourth goal was a world-class shot. Quick probably couldn’t see the release point. We really shouldn’t have backed off as much as we did. But things like that happen.

Now, if that puck in the first goes off Howard’s glove and in instead of inches wide, it might be a different story.

Just one of those nights where nothing’s gone right.
