A power-play goal with 1:12 remaining in the first period gave the Red Wings a 3-1 lead. After a bit of a scramble in front of Quick, the puck went up high to Nicklas Lidstrom, who shot from the blue line. The puck got through traffic, hit the post and deflected in off Quick.
The Kings outshot the Red Wings 14-10 in the first period but allowed at least three first-period goals for the second time this season. The Kings allowed four first-period goals on Dec. 29 at Phoenix.
Well, that was ugly. We could use Penner tonight.

The weird part is that were playing well.
This is when the bounces go against us.
And of course the refs!
[Reply]
well said mitchell!!
[Reply]
2 of those goals Quick didn’t even see because there were 2 Kings screening Quick on both goals.
[Reply]
Oh My God!!
[Reply]
I would take my chances every game if the Kings played like that…..Couple of soft goals but other then that we were skating well..
[Reply]
No matter how bad the refs are they can’t make us lose -only our players can do that. Quick is off for some reason. Did Bernier play the last game?
[Reply]
Loved Greene burying Holmstrom .

Quick is not so good tonight 2 soft goals.

@Hockeyfan B4 Gretzky, 1 but the other 2 Quick was screened by his own players.

I haveta agree with mitchell; thats the best period the Kings have played after which they were 2 goals behind. I thought the Kings carried the play, Detroit just has a few seeing-eye shots go in. Keep carrying it to them, plenty of time to go!

Penner isn’t going to improv that effort.
the only line forechecking and creating stuff down low is Clifford, Lewis, Harrold. Wow our other line is slow with Handzus and then there is Smyth.
Wake up Kings, bigger effort is required, no more dumb penalties Stoll, your costing us, keep your stick on the ice, and to boot its 120 feet from our net, stupid play.

What game are you watching ?
The Kings took it too them 5/5 the whole period.
[Reply]
We have had a great month. Lets try and work thru this bad period..
[Reply]
Kings are playing well. Problem is, they’re playing a very good Detroit team that shows what speed with puck possession can do. And having JQ rattled early on causing him to have happy feet isn’t helping.
But like others have said, they are actually playing hard but not getting the results because the team they’re playing is just a bit better and faster.
[Reply]
Kings are playing hard and well. Just some stupid mistakes and bad calls. Let’s continue what we are doing and take it to them. We need to shut those Wing fans at the game up for good.

Respect for DL! He just said that signing JW and trading for Penner was, in important part, to reward (1) the Kings for pulling together hard to turn the season around and (2) for the fans, acknowledging the ticket price increases. Gotta love that perspective.

At least everything made in Walmart.
The Kings played well the first 10 minutes or so I thought and Detroit was a little slow. Then the Wings picked up their game and, well, this score is the result. The Kings better pick up their game and fast or this is going to be over very soon.
[Reply]
Those 2 high-sticking penalties on Greene and Stoll were complete crap. TL was sitting in section 105 and he jumped up and went off on the refs when Stoll got sent to the box. We’re in section 205 and the energy level in here is intense. The teams and the crowd are amped up. Time for 2nd. . .
[Reply]
I wanted a hat trick from Willy, but I’ll sacrifice that if Greener scores a couple to get back at the refs.
[Reply]
Howard is giving up a lot of bounces.
WE need more net presense and were back in it.

Mitchell summed it up best. Quick usually takes care of the team, so if he’s having difficulties it’s up to the boys to handle it.
