Here’s another item, and a nice story for the morning. The Red Deer Advocate newspaper today told the story of the Thiesmann family — residents of Mirror, Alberta — whose house was destroyed by fire three days before Christmas. This week, the family was presented with a contribution check of $26,680, plus an autographed jersey from Kings forward Ryan Smyth. The jersey came courtesy of Smyth’s parents, Dixie and Jim, who live in nearby Red Deer. Smyth, of course, is a native of Alberta and still revered there for his time playing with the Edmonton Oilers. Jayden Thiesmann, age 11, told the paper he would wear Smyth’s jersey during hockey practice…
“I don’t really know the whole details on it,” Smyth said. “I just know that they were very supportive in helping out over the Christmas holiday. That’s obviously a tough time of the year, so it was very generous of them to do that, for sure.”

Let’s get two points today and call someone up from Manchester. No need to give up the farm because Sturm got claimed off waivers and Loktionov got hurt.

Is there anyone decent on waivers who we could claim and trade for a LW? Seems plausible to me or at least something to consider in the future. All i see at the moment on waivers is crappy goalies tho

Hockey players are the best. They seem to remember their roots and how blessed they are. When you find families sharing their homes with kids in Juniors, etc. it’s all about great character, and the majority of them are very humble. Great time for this one Rich. Too much negativity floating around today.

I’m I the only one who gets the feeling Monday will come and go without anything happening? Maybe I’ve been a King’s fan too long.

Can we please have some respect for the great story that this post is about, and not turn this into some more rumors and speculation. There are plenty of other post to do that on. There’s more to life, and hockey, than trades and injures.

I neverthought I would be reading my home town papers link through LA Kings insider.
The Smyths, Ranfords, and Masons (Chris) do a lot for Red Deer and area.
