Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on the game…)
MURRAY: “We made it interesting at the end, just through getting too casual, a little careless with some plays at critical times at the game. You go into the third period with that kind of a scenario, you want to make sure you’re able to lock it down. Good teams do. You don’t get reckless or careless. We started taking some penalties, especially the high sticking penalties. We iced the puck, again, when the game is right on the line, in a 4-3 game when you’re two feet from the red line, we don’t recognize that. The good teams don’t do that. We’ve got to clean that part of it up right away.”

(on when he learned of Sturm’s waiver claim…)
MURRAY: “I found out at about 9:15 this morning. … On the other side of it, I had been thinking about it [not playing Sturm] through yesterday, watching Colorado play the last couple games with their lineup, I certainly had Westgarth on notice. I asked him, yesterday, to come to the pregame skate, get in the warmup, get ready to play, do all your stuff that you need to in order to play in the game tomorrow, because I might use (him). The player that was going to be out would have been Sturm.”

(on Richardson’s play…)
MURRAY: “Well, his success this year has come against Colorado. He’s the man. The line was good. He did a nice job on the first goal, a really big job, just getting the puck on the wraparound, taking it hard to the net, and Kopitar is there for the rebound. He’s a great skater, he’s got great intensity and he was a good player for us tonight.”

(on his conversations with Dean Lombardi about potential trades…)
MURRAY: “There have been zero conversations with Dean and I about any player that’s out there. That’s not my job. My history, with all the teams that I’ve been around, is that if there’s something that’s almost definite, now we can talk and, `What do you think?’ I like our team. I like the way it is right now. We’ve got a great chemistry, and that’s so important, to have that chemistry. You can put a lot of different people into the dressing room and if it doesn’t work, boy, you’re very frustrated as an organization, and heading down the wrong path because, probably, you’re going to have to blow a lot of it up in order to get it back together again. We’ve got a good group of guys that play hard for each other.”

(on the 5-on-3 power plays…)
MURRAY: “It was good. The 5-on-3 was good. We were in the offensive zone the whole time. We were moving the puck around. We were getting our shots. Everybody was doing the right thing. We were recovering pucks. A lot of good plays off the boards were being made. We had good rotations going off the 5-on-3. There were a couple of times when I wish we would have hit the net, because it would have been in. We just missed the net by a couple of inches. But overall, it builds great momentum. Same on the 5-on-4. There were a lot of good things happening on the power play, 5-on-4. We had momentum, we had good energy, we followed it up 5-on-5 because of what was going on on the power play. Hey, if you score one out of five in the NHL on the power play, you’ve got the top power play in the NHL. That’s pretty good. So I was fine. I liked what was going on out there tonight, with the emotion and the connection to the game.”
