Andrei Loktionov suffered an injury to his left shoulder last night while playing for Manchester and is scheduled to have an MRI on Sunday. As posted last night, Monarchs coach Mark Morris told the Union-Leader newspaper that he fears Loktionov will be out for the rest of the season.
Sending good vibes towards Lokti..

Good luck Lokti. We are all pulling for you.

Great time for Sturm to get claimed. Time to work the phones.

Another shoulder injury? Wow…this kid is not built for the rough and tumble. He’s already an ‘outside’ player who gets knocked over every time he’s in traffic, and now to have another serious shoulder injury could be the nail in his coffin.
Hate to say it, but we should have held on to Cammy. He’s a smaller guy like Lokti, but built tougher and is the sniper we’re now missing on the Kopi line!

@tantrum4, I think he was wanting to test the waters because he new the Kings were going to low ball him. He still had another year left to make a deal, but instead of trying to work something out, and maybe trade him at the following deadline, DL decided to trade him for a higher spot in the draft, and so far thats worked out better than any left wing so far. Cammi has 163 points as a left winger since.

@Mucker,
All due respect, that’s an over-reaction. The most you can say is he has had shoulder problems. This is, of course, the other shoulder. Some athletes (and humans in general) have so-called loose shoulders. This is correctable by surgery, and in fact the shoulder can be tightened up so that it’s better than new. If, it turns out, we’re talking about that kind of shoulder injury.

So we send down Loki to put in Sturm but then waive him to clear up room. Not too long later Sturm is a Crapital and Loki is in the hospital. What the puck is this!?
There has to have been a more logical move.

Paul G Reply:

@Subby, The more logical move would of been to ship Alec Martinez down since he is not eligible for waivers, and then play Davis Drewiske for the 2 games that Martinez would miss (Colorado and Detroit)after Feb 28, Lombardi can then recall Martinez even if LA gains additional players due to a trade since the roster limit expands after trade deadline.
does that mkae sense or did I miss something?

@Paul G, You missed the fact that Martinez wouldn’t even have to be sent down yet. He could be sent down minutes before we made a trade. If he had to be sent down a couple of days before the trade deadline he could have just stayed in LA, or sent to Ontario, CA to practice in the meantime. I agree with you we shouldn’t have put Sturm on waivers.

@Subby, The more logical move would have been to send Alec Martinez to the AHL since he does not have to go thorugh waivers since he is not waiver eligible.
To replace Martinez for the 2 games he would miss (Colorado today and Detroit on Monday)Davis Drewiske could have been paired with Matt Greene (like e has been in the 2 previous games)
Then after the trade deadline, even if LA gains additional players due to a trade, the team coud call up Martinez since the roster limit is expanded after the trade deadline (feb 28)
thats just my suggestion

@johnny, Perhaps you should just wait until the trade deadline before assuming no trade is made. As far as “no Drive” where did you get that? I care about this team as much as anybody. I just think that the the “Fire everybody” attitude is just getting a little stale and perhaps having a little confidence in this team is more appropriate than blasting every decision made by management. I’m not saying DL and TM are perfect, but things happen and I feel we should judge their response to the present adversity, not what has happened in the past.

@Dave’s a Killer, that is the thing, the kings fans are waiting for ever. 2 trade would make sense and not give up much is hemsky from the oilers or richards from dallas if he is ok. But DL sitting on his ass for the last 2 years or so, what can you expect ? 1st year GM Yzerman made much better trades in his first year, than DL made here at the kings, may be he was better at san jose with the boston trade, may be, so far he has done no good trade for the kings just good picks… If it goes like this may be Jim fox will be in the lineup…

another popular contributor on this site and i had a conversation recently and he brought up the interesting observation and notion that maybe dl is just a difficult gm to get a trade finalized…brian burke last week mentioned that how gm’s congregate in cliques and usually end up trading with other cronies and managers whom they get along with…of course, i found that statement funny coming from burke, who might be one of the more vilified gm’s out there…and i also found that statement not surprising at all, as human nature probably takes its course in the hockey managerial world as it does most everywhere else…
nonetheless, players are moving around the league earlier and more often this year than last year…and although you never make a deal just to “make a deal”: for reasons like appeasing fans, taking on unneeded payroll, etc., i’m starting to wonder…much like my friend did during our pow wow…that dl is just a hard guy to deal with and that getting a deal done with him is no easy task…
every time RICH has done an interview with dl, his answers can usually make a stenographer weary…i realize that this is pure supposition on my part, but i wonder if other gm’s just don’t want to deal with him because…well…of him…
for the record, i am a dl supporter…most of you know that already…
but i’m starting to wonder out loud that it’s not a systemic problem, but a diplomatic issue plaguing the team…with all the assets this team has, it would be a disappointment if something can’t be done before the deadline to help this team…

@variable, i would guess then that Rutherford must be near the top DL’s buddy list. Willy trade, JJ trade. trying to think who else he’s dealt with on a couple of occations… there’s the PHI connection, but DL doesn’t really trade with them, just picks pieces off of their tree.
[Reply]
variable Reply:
February 26th, 2011 at 12:56 pm
@jayhay,
the philly connection is well known…and has been discussed on here to the point of diminishing returns…so even if there’s something a brewin’ with them (doubtful), it wouldn’t be much of a story and take us back to more of the same discussion…
edmonton is another trade favorite of ours – both in terms of our history and recent transactions the past few years – so when hemsky’s name comes up, it shouldn’t be that big of a surprise…
but the point i’m trying to make is that everybody around the league knows who we have…i would think that anyone who wants to sell off contracts and talent would call us first based upon what we can facilitate – in all aspects – to get them what they want…
obviously…i don’t know what i don’t know…no, i didn’t stutter…but it could be that the phone(s) is going off every minute and the asking price is way too high and dl won’t budge on his principles…that, in itself, is commendable and is one of the reasons i admire dl’s determination…but could that same unyielding determination be his downfall…?
the ability to negotiate is an excellent skill to have…it varies much differently from the ability to gauge talent and build a team with theories and plans…as important to the numbers game and understanding of what to do, the ability to actually do it – implementation – is what separates the scotty bowmans from the darryl sutters…
and i think we are at the point where one could safely say that dl’s ability to implement the final stages of what needs to be done out here can be scrutinized if…if…he can’t make a measurable impact with the roster before playoff time…
money says that something will happen…
i’m just glad it’s not mine…

@variable, great, interesting take. lots of sense
I’ve seen Bud Holloway play many times. His game is quite similar to Teddy Purcell (who I liked) but he’s not quite as tall & lanky– maybe 6-0, 200. He’s a right-handed left winger, a very dependable player in ECHL and AHL. Good hands, good skater. Did well in the late and in the playoffs last year for the Monarchs.

@In the Net,
His game is very similar to Teddy’s but with more of a physical edge. Bud is a player who seems to be able to vary his play based on situation, willing to play a rough, grinding game when called for but also able to make the high skill plays that are reminiscent of Purcell.

@LVKINGS88, Bud actually leads the team in points and is tied with King for goals with 20 each.
I’m not sure why exactly he hasn’t been called up, if it weren’t for King’s call up, I’d say that it’s because the Kings have been looking at bringing up players that are more firmly on the skill side than a player who is kind of a mix. I hope he does get a shot, even as kind of a progress report type of evaluation. You never really know what is going to happen to a player in the NHL until they actually play in that situation.
