FINAL: Kings 4, Avalanche 3

Colorado made it interesting late, as the Avalanche pulled within 4-3 with 30 seconds remaining. Paul Stastny forced the puck away from Quick behind the net, then had his centering attempt go off Jarret Stoll and into the Kings’ net.

The Kings held on for the win and recorded a season-high 42 shots as they improved to 11-1-3 in their last 15 games. More from the locker room to come, although it will be a bit delayed because of the Q&A at ESPN Zone…

    I have never seen too slower guys then Handzus and Smyth, these guys couldn’t make my oldtimers team with that speed….

    Not something to be proud about in the 3rd, Simmonds what gives you the right to take a penalty when has already been called, selfish play that’s it…..

    @rick,

    Handzus and Smyth still find ways to be effective moreso than a lot of guys with speed on this team. Those two are invaluable. Did you not see Zeus breaking up Colorado’s Power Play at the blue line several times, singlehandedly? His game is not to explode with speed into the zone like Ovechkin, if you expect that, then yes, he is slow. But the guy flat out knows how to play the game well. Solid leader.

    @Harty, You’ve got to look at the start, man. They haven’t had a start like that in a couple weeks. I think everyone, including the Avs, knew the game was over. Give up both goals on the 5-on-3, mishandle a puck with less than a minute left…naw, no one expected it. I don’t see it happening if they didn’t build a 4-0 lead to begin with. I’m not down.

    Funny thing…I’ve been criticized for my reservations about the last few wins, but this was the first one that really felt like a win in some time.

    [Reply]

    Goring 19 Reply:

    @Harty, Smitty does his job which is to grow a root at the goal crease, where he gets all his goals. Zeus will probably be gone next year for the second coming of Braydon Schenn. Quick has no business going behind the net.

    Ok we are now one of the better teams in the league. Let us all forget the Past, stay in the Now, so our future is Destiny. We are playing the kind of Hockey that we all knew we could. If we keep this Edge and continue to skate hard good things are in store. The Aves didn’t give us much till the end, but we kept our heads, didn’t panic and won. Monday will be tough with the Red Wings, but they have goaltending problems and we are at home. Thing is, we must keep our EDGE. Keeping our EDGE should be our motto from here on out. Good win, now let’s go get some Wings!!!!!!!

    [Reply]

Schenn is quickly becoming the best player in the world NOT in the NHL. and he’s ours. please keep it that way.
    especially with Lokti’s health becoming somewhat of a question mark. i dont want to put that label on him, but we are talking 2 season ending injuries in 2 years of professional hockey. i’m not sure if Lok came back to play in the playoffs late last year for MAN, but you know what i’m saying.

Yes we need a LW1 and someone the likes of Hemsky or Penner would be a nice addition, but not at the cost of losing Schenn. Adding one of those types of players will help us this year, yes. Even if we add one of them we will not win the cup this year. But adding one of them and then having Schenn next year will make us next year big time cup contenders. Give up a 1st rd pick and a top D prospect for Penner. That is all I would do this year.

    @Shotongoal, alright well then whats it gonna be. I just dont see what there is to trade. I dont want to trade anyone we have besides maybe Westy and Poni lol

    Shotongoal Reply:

    @Subby, then I guess you don’t want them to improve for the playoffs. They will not go far in the playoffs without another proven scorer. I have no problems giving up Simmonds for a quality goal scorer or a rent a player goal scorer. Don’t be in love with players, be in love with the idea of competing for the Cup! Got to give up somnething to get something, but you don’t give up the future for a rent a player. I think they can swing something that can give them the scoring help they need without ruining their team chemistry or killing their future chances.

    With any scoring in their 5-on-3 advantages, this game would’ve been put away much earlier than it was. The PP must be fixed and I’m not sure Kompon has any solutions.

    @Bruce, 2 days ago, Murray said the PP was good. LOL..The Avs scored on their 5 on 3 because they had 2 guys screening the goalie. What a novel idea, Kompon

    I doubt we’re talking Richards. He’s a rental player. It would be idiotic to trade roster players for an injuried rental player.

    I would describe that as a dominating performance in even strength play that was mired by flaccid power play efficiency (despite the trickler) and an embarassing last several minutes. There is no justification whatsoever for a 4-0 game ending up 4-3. None. The Avs are broken and battered franchise in more ways than on the scoreboard.

    Quick’s puck handling skills remind me of the kid who passed up through the public school system w/out learning how to read. It’s really remarkable that he’s made it this far with such a glaring handicap. It’ll cost us big one day.

    What I think is completely neurotic is benching Lokti with Kings being 13-3-3 when he’s on the ice, shipping him to the minors, activating Sturm to take his place, and then cutting Sturm.

    @Poorman,

    I agree with you, but it’s probably time we let it go. I’m happy we’re winning, that’s the most important thing.

    @Jason4Kings, agreed. They’re doing great. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of trade DL makes.

    Shenn is a good junior player and will be a dynamic NHL player in roughly three years? Why are we always looking that far into the future. I say trade him while he is worth something.
