The view from Anaheim

As it turns out, last night’s game was the final Ducks start for goalie Curtis McElhinney, who was traded this morning to Tampa Bay for goalie Dan Ellis. The Kings beat McElhinney three times on 18 shots last night to improve to 2-1 against the Ducks this season. Here’s how the Orange County Register covered last night’s game…

    Dan Ellis is WAY better than McElhinney… IMO

    I thought McElhinney played pretty good last night. He really didn’t let it any soft goals…I find it hilarious that we ran him out of Anaheim though.

    Sebastian Reply:

    @launch, his lack of rebound control helped the Kings score their first 2 goals. nothing the could have really done on the 3rd because of all the traffic in front of him.

    launch Reply:

    @Sebastian,
    the first goal was an unbelievable backhand tap in outta mid-air by grandpa Smyth…world class hand-eye coordination….not sure how he controls that rebound.

    I’ll give ya the Kopi goal….but all together not that bad of a performance

    @launch, I’m always quick to bag on RS’s lack of speed, but his work along the boards is superior to a lot of quicker younger players. All night last night I watched as he did this subtle/greasy move which was basically slight-of-stick maneveur where he faked one way but then as the D closed he slipped out the back end and down the boards behind the net or wherever… Wily-ass veteran! Love him or hate him I’m glad he’s a King!!!

    Ryan Reply:

    @launch, We chased him out of the state!!!

    VIEW FROM ANAHEIM- Kings fans invade honda center, and were way louder then the bandwagon ducks fans…. love when they announced the sold out crowd, they should have said “thank you kings fans for filling up the arena, something that we can only do when we play you guys, the capitals, and penguins

    Kings wear the Purple & Gold.
    Kings play hard and win.
    Whole Kings team skates to center ice and raise their sticks to salute the crowd, in effect saying, “We see you. We hear you. You’ve stood by us. YOU are OUR fans. And we’ll never, EVER allow a home stand like the last one happen again.”

    Imagine the noise.

    Anyone fancy Kovalev for the first line? Too late…. he’s gone to Pittsburgh. I wouldn’t have been thrilled to have him here but w Crosby on the PP he could do things.

    [Reply]

    VanKingsFan Reply:

    @number 6, For only a 7th round pick… how the mighty have fallen eh. I wouldn’t touch Kovalev with a 12 foot pole.

    Sebastian Reply:

    @McDonalds, big whoop! he was given every chance possible. played on every single line and sucked at it. forget about it and move on. Boyle and Moulson, were not really given as many chances, so you can complain about those guys, but seriously…move on.

    Shotongoal Reply:

    @Sebastian, I agree I get so sick of people here talking about former Kings who are making a little noise around the league. Get over it!! None of them have become stars, they’re just playing better than they did when they were Kings. Oh well!! They had their chances here for the most part.

    @McDonalds,

    Please stop caring/watching what other players who we used to have are doing. It is irrelevant. It does not matter at all! Good for them they are flourishing, they couldn’t hack it with us and they are not with us so stop caring. Focus on our guys not everyone else and this is not just directed to you but every other Kings fan who is obessesed with the past. Live in the now!!!!

    McDonalds Reply:

    @McDonalds,

    Geez didn’t think my comment would accumulate flaming…

    I was just mentioning it. I saw it this morning on nhl.com–It’s not like I have alerts sent to my phone whenever there’s news on “teddy purcell” or “brian boyle” or “matt moulson.”

    There wasn’t a subtle message lining my comment. I’m hardly saying that we should’ve kept him. Again, i was just mentioning it.

    I’ll make sure to purposely avoid any news on any player who has ever played for the kings from now on…

    I don’t see Deano making a long-term sacrifice for a potential short term gain when the team has limited playoff viability this season.

    Seems like McElhenny is going the way of Steve Shields…Anyone remembe that guy? He was SO easy to heckle off his game.

    [Reply]

    puck73 Reply:

    @Cynic, Nice. Yes I remember that guy. Also, if Hiller is out for an extended period of time the Ducks are toast. There defense since Beauchemin has been acquired is BRUTAL!

  15. DesertKing says:

    Sure was quiet in the Honda center parking lot last night, EXCEPT FOR THE KINGS FANS WHOOPING IT UP! Hopefully our defense plays a little tighter tonight and we capitalize on any mistakes the Wild may make. And GO TO THE NET with the puck. When we go to the net, we create pressure and we score. GKG and get those 2 points!

    Trader Rumors, Trade Rumors, Trade Rumors. Really? There is no one available for any kind of good price. We will have to give up to much to get anyone who will not be a real upgrade.

    Lets stop talking about a trade and look at the team and the organization. We are loaded for bear. We are going to make the playoffs and make some noise this year. We are built for a playoff run. Defense and goal tending win playoffs. We have both.

    The goal scoring will come. Has anyone noticed we are winning? Winning ugly is still winning. Trevor Lewis, Kyle Clifford and Wayne Simmonds are on the verge of breaking out. Did anyone see that drive to the net that Lewis had? That kid has world class speed and is starting to learn to use it. Clifford is going to be a power forward for years to come. Simmonds production is down but not by much and he is still a kid.

    We are young and in the thick of it. No one, I mean no one is going to want to play us in the playoffs.
