Willie Mitchell’s postgame thoughts…
(on his goal…)
MITCHELL: “It was just a great play by Willy [Justin Williams] to draw the guy in and kind of give me some time to shoot it. I was just trying to find the far side of the net, because there was a lot of traffic in front. Fortunate enough for us, it went in.”
(on having his goal be the game-winner…)
MITCHELL: “I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t feel good. Of course it does, but number one is winning. That’s what we’re here to do. If I can sneak one in to help the team win, so be it.”
(on holding the lead after his goal…)
MITCHELL: “I think that’s something we’re starting to do a better job of. Because we’re not a high-scoring team, that’s something that we have to really focus on, that being the strength of our hockey club. I thought we did a pretty good job of that. It wasn’t our best game, but we locked it down after that. We didn’t really give them any quality chances, and that’s what you need to do at this time of year. All the games are tight.”
(on overcoming the first 10 minutes…)
MITCHELL: “It’s a road game but it’s not, because we’re back in our surroundings, in the L.A. area. I think maybe the first 10 minutes was just getting back in the swing of things after three days of being off. When you’re playing every second day, if you ask players, they like that. When you hit a little lull, it’s tougher. You have to refocus and get your feel again. So I think it just kind of gradually came.”
Greene, mitchell, and doughty.

What a freakin WIN! I got my exercise jumping around my living room all game. I will say I was sick of yelling at my TV to SHOOT THE DAMN PUCK, but a win is a win.

@Cynic, I must admit I was shouting the same thing. And when Mitchell got that shot through I added in excitement “See what happens when you shoot the puck!” And it turned out to be the game winner!

Willie Mitchell and Tony Lydman have made a big difference in Los Angeles and Orange County…easily the best free agent acquisitions on defense in the off season.

OH, and one more thing…
Didn’t even seem like Marco Sturm even played tonight! I hate to say this, but he was like the Kevin Westgarth of the first line out there. He seemed so upbeat before the game. He better pick it up and FAST or he and Poni will be switching places…
OR
That phone to Manchester will be ringing to bring back Loktionov on March 1st.

I want your thoughts…should mitchy be captain??? Seems the “c” is too much for brownie. Cause brownie was hitting a lot more when Rob Blake was captain.

@Ryan, Willie would be a good choice.Any bounce to the head and we’ll be bouncing that c off his chest. Maybe Scuds.

@Ryan, Disagree.
Brown is still to this day in the top 5 in the league in hits every year (maybe higher). When he was younger (Blake days) he hit a little bit more, but also took himself out of position more, and didnt contribute as much over all as he does now. He is a leader in the community, and a leader by example in the dressing room and in the off season.
Willie was not even captain on the Canucks after being there a number of years and having the respect of the whole city.
I feel Brown is an excellent captain who will only get better with time. The only question mark I have with captains is the A on Kopi.
C – Brown
A – Greene
A – Smyth
This is what it should be IMO

Mitchell is one of the best D man in the leauge when comes down to lock down. When he is in the lineup Kings can play the system right. System means the cup.
