Tracking the playoff race

As everyone knows, the Western Conference playoff race is so tight that it can shift dramatically in the span of 48 hours (sometimes less). For those looking for a simple way to track the last two months of the season, and see where the Kings stand, here are a couple resources. First, the Kings have put together a strong conference calendar, which tracks each team in a number of categories, and gives each team’s upcoming schedule. Also, many of you have already discovered the website sportsclubstats.com, which uses a formula to project each team’s chances of making the playoffs this season, on a day-to-day basis. Here are the links…

Based on its “weighted” formula, the site gives the Kings a 77.9-percent chance of making the playoffs. The site also projects that the Kings have a 98.6-percent chance of making the playoffs if they finish with 96 points (the equivalent of a 14-9-3 finish) and an 81.5-percent chance if they finish with 94 points (a 13-10-3 finish).
