Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts…
(on the game…)
BROWN: “We didn’t really have a lot in the second period, offensively. I think we had two shots on net, and we kind of took our foot off the pedal. We had a good first. If we play 60 minutes tonight, we probably win this game in regulation.”
(on leaving one point on the board…)
BROWN: “We need two points right now. That’t the bottom line. We got one, but at the end of the day, we need two. It’s so tight right now, and we’ve got to keep climbing. The only way to do that is to get two points on a consistent basis.”
i’m getting rather tired of the ‘if we play 60 minutes’ crap.
don’t talk about it, do it.
if you don’t, find some other way to win.
hell, pay me enough and i’ll make sure to put laxative in the other teams gatorade.

@Newf, That has been the general answer from every player and coach after a loss for a while now. Maybe someone should figure out another way to state the obvious. Maybe they could say “insert generic answer here, since I have nothing of substance too add”, because everyone already has their responses memorized.

@Newf,
The sixty minute answer is pretty ridiculous. It assumes the Kings are better than every other team and if the Kings play hard for sixty minutes they will win every game. What if the other teams outplays the Kings for twenty minutes, or thirty minutes, or forty minutes? Or…maybe the other team is just better? Or maybe the other team plays hard for sixty minutes too, who wins then?

@Newf, I don’t like Murray’s system, this dump and chase thing seems like there’s no creativity to it….it seems like were changing lines as we dump the pick and are hardly getting any real good forechecking going. We need a goal scorer…playing and simple, losing Frolov as you can see really hurt, he played mainly on our 3rd line and still managed to get 20 goals. We replaced him with someone that’s prolly not even going to hit 15. I hope Lombardi pulls off a trade, we have so much young talent I don’t see why we don’t pull off a trade for a Penner type, a real goal scorer, physical type guy. We really need someone who can put the puck in the net, cause right now we have no offensive cohesiveness, we really look like offensively there’s just nothing there, again this dump and chase is really terrible….I just don’t think the system fits for the type of players we have…like scott burnside said, we have the veterans with the young stars and solid goaltending all the pieces you need for the playoffs, but there’s still just something missing, it’s an offensive player that’s a goal scorer….are stars are not playing like stars and we need help bad.

@Paulislav, What should Brown say? Should he freak out and blame the coaching staff? GM? Owners? How about the officials for some lack of calls? Especially the Kopitar tripping in OT? Brown answers the same way every game because he has to. He’s the Captain, he has to set the example. If he lost his cool, the example is of that, and it puts the entire team in shambles. He can vent his frustration to the team in private, but when he is in the public eye he is a professional. It’s part of being a leader. A big mouth and lack of a filter doesn’t equal leadership. Brown earned his captain status and that is that. It’s a team effort.

@Colin, I agree. I would never want to hear Brown, or any of our players complaining in an interview about the coaching staff, other players, or lack of calls from the refs. Our team is above that because they remain professional when speaking to the press. We don’t see or hear what goes on in that locker room so we shouldn’t judge the players by their post game comments.
It’s going to take a huge team effort to stay in the race for a play off spot, and I don’t feel the Kings are giving up on themselves. I see a team trying very hard. We are all very frustrated, but none more than the players. Hang in there Kings fans.
[Reply]
Yeah enough already with the 60 minutes! I would also like the Captain to every once and awhile say.. “If I had played an entire 60 minutes…” Let’s try something new and have all players stop the “we” thing. Lets hear some personal responsibility. It it walks like a Duck, oh wait they’re in a playoff spot and there GM is adding talent. And I am definitely no quack fan either. Sorry! We got a point… but we’d better show up a little harder to play next game.

Would you guys trade Brown? I would. No joke. I used to be in the camp that would never deal him, but the Kings have been bad ever since his arrival. Okay that was a joke. But send him to a team that needs cap space but has a scorer. Iginla?

Didn’t play for 60 min? Don’t get paid for the game! Kings funs are tired of thet BS (we did not play full 60 minutes) after every game they lost. Just tell us-why??!! You are professional players and you must play full 60 minutes! I agree with others, he has no right to be captain. He is no leader who can show by example how to play full 60 minutes.

@Tantrum4, I can’t answer that question, but i’d also guess none of them have ever played the game (at ANY level).
Also wonder if going home for a few days was a good thing. Why break up the momentum by coming back home for a few days. Tough it out on the road, keep the ranks close and the distractions to a minimum. There’s enough ice on the road to “work on things” and maybe we’d have a little bit more of that foxhole mentality, this team often lacks.

@Black Knight, I understand the going home trip to mentally break up the schedule. I didn’t agree with it, but that was the decision that was made. Instead of adding extra travel, I would have rather seen them spend an extra day doing some kind of team bonding trip somewhere, and then spend a day resting. Hope mentally it fooled them into thinking the road trips aren’t that bad, since they used an extra trip to do it.

@KingsFanFTW, They would probably go with Smyth or Kopitar. Fans would most likely go with Greene. I would go with Doughty and hope that it gave him some pride to pick up the slack for the rest of the team. Is he ready to be a captain? Who knows. But Crosby was a captain before he should have been. Same with Ovechkin. We don’t have a Crosby or and Ovechkin, but few teams have or ever will have a Doughty. Maybe we rotate each month like MIN. Give it to Doughty and let him rise to the occassion. Or give it to Jack as a message to Doughty that we have another young D man to build around.

I like Brown but he not really getting anything done with it
Look what happen to the Conucks Luongo was the C give it up to one of the Twins and now they number one so that effect their team if we give it up to Doughty or Anyone maybe he make the team more better than what it is

Moreover, I hate the point for a loss system. It should be W or L and that;’s it. They are socializing success. Only 5 teams in a league of 30 have a losing record. Most wins gets in playoffs, second most, etc.

and here come the bashers…
Bashing Brown. He does so much we don’t even know about. A captain isn’t always supposed to get 40 goals a year. If he weren’t captain, would you guys still be bashing him?
If I didn’t follow the Kings and didn’t know who Dustin Brown was,I wouldn’t consider him an elite scorer. I wouldn’t expect him to score 40 goals. I’d be surprised if he even got 30.
The Kings played a good game. It’s not like Pittsburgh is a bad team. They are a Stanley Cup contender. I just checked, and they haven’t allowed more than 3 goals in a game since Jan. 8th. That’s crazy. I know a lot of you will think “well they haven’t scored either” but you gotta take the positives as they come, and that’s a huge positive.
Fleury made some crazy saves and they should have won. They got a point though, and every one of them is going to count.
Move on to Washington and let’s watch a future King in Semin.

@kevin from toronto, I’ll tell you one of the things we do know about. He’s the one that passed the puck into the middle that was picked off and eventually led to the first goal. Is that what your captain is supposed to do? How many crushing, inspiring, energy giving hits did he dish out tonight to help lead this team? If you’re not scoring, giving away pucks to the opposition, not checking somebody into next wednesday, or dropping the gloves, I’m curious to what “little things” we don’t know about that make him fit to be captain?
[Reply]
Kevin from Toronto Reply:
February 11th, 2011 at 8:07 am
@LW Anybody?, He wasn’t even on the ice for the overtime goal. It was a combination of Stoll, Smyth and Johnson. If Stoll just dumped the puck in, it would have atleast gone to a shootout.
We don’t see or hear him talk to players on the bench, in the locker room, at practice. Things like that, that separate you from any other player. Every one just assumes if your captain is a forward, he has to score minimum of 40 goals to be worthy of the C.
It took me a while to like Brown, but I’m liking him more now than I ever have. Is he the future captain of the team? Who knows. But you can’t blame this season on him. I think Scuderi said about last night, they made a lot of mental mistakes. I think that’s what this season has been about. If Stoll dumps that puck in, instead of a behind the back pass in the neutral zone (he should have known better) it probably goes to a shootout, and I like my money on the Kings in a shootout.
