Ryan Smyth’s postgame thoughts…
(on the game…)
SMYTH: “It’s obviously nice to contribute on the power play. The power play has been lacking as of late, and that can win you or lose you hockey games. Tonight, we capitalized on two, and it was a big win for us overall.”
(on any extra motivation playing in Edmonton…)
SMYTH: “Yeah. It’s a great rink to play in. Great fans. It’s a great atmosphere. People know their hockey here, and it’s always nice to come to Canada.”
(on whether he deflected the second goal…)
SMYTH: “No. I didn’t even get the first one. [laughs] I just try to cause them, that’s all.”
(on having the net presence on the power play…)
SMYTH: “Obviously Jack and Doughty can shoot the puck. When you’re slacking a little bit in the power-play area, you’ve got to get back to basics, and that’s getting the puck to the net.”
But JJ and DD have been paired there through out the season. So what’s so different now? Even Captain Canada in front of the goalie is the same. Kopi on the right side? Zues on the first power play unit? I don’t get it.

@Dominick, JJ and DD have often been paired for regular shifts, but Stoll and DD were on the points for the first powerplay unit for a while. JJ was on the second unit. JJ and DD work well together on the powerplay, but not at even strength. Tonight was the right look.

@Naturallawyer, I was just trying to say that they’ve been paired together on the power play before. Not just tonight.
It’ll change back tomorrow anyway.

The real test will be against Calgary!
They are an up and coming team as well.

i thought the players can tell the score keeper that they didnt score so that they can credit the right person for the goals. esp when both doughty and smyth are consistant with their assessment of the goals

@gcheng,
I believe ALL goals are reviewed in Toronto afterward even if there’s no question about it being a goal, and they decide who gets the goal in the end. Apparently they though Smyth got a piece of em :/

@kingsxstevenxkings, I wonder if they’ll take his denial of making contact with both goals into account…..
