The view from St. Louis

For those inclined to attend, the Kings are scheduled to practice today at 12:30 p.m. at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo. As for last night’s game, the St. Louis Blues were sad to see the Kings go, as the Kings are the only team the Blues have beaten in 2011. Here’s how last [...]

Tonight’s game story (Jan. 18)

Here’s my LAKings.com game story for tonight, with stats and video included. Thanks for reading… Kings lose to Blues 2-1 I’ll update tomorrow’s practice time in El Segundo when it is announced.

Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) MURRAY: “Both teams played hard. There was lots of tempo and pace to the game. Both teams, i thought, generated some good chances and both teams played well defensively. It was a pretty entertaining game for the fans.” (on the game-winning goal…) MURRAY: “That’s just a shot from [...]

Greene postgame quotes

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) GREENE: “We played the type of game we wanted to. It just didn’t come out the right way. … I think it’s going to come. I think it’s going to come here. We just have to stick with what we’re doing. We can’t get off page. I know [...]

Brown, Quick postgame quotes

Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) BROWN: “We’ve got to start getting results here, regardless of how good we play. I thought we did play a good game tonight, but we’ve got to find a way to win. That’s going to take everyone here. It’s not going to be one (expletive) guy. We win [...]

Scoring change on Kings goal

The Kings’ goal tonight was changed to credit Kyle Clifford with the tip-in of Matt Greene’s shot in the second period.

FINAL: Blues 2, Kings 1

The Kings had a two-game trip to the Central time zone and lost both games by a 2-1 margin. This loss dropped the Kings behind the Blues and into 12th place in the Western Conference. Shots were 27-25 in favor of the Blues. More to come from the locker room…

Blues 2, Kings 1

The third period was tight and scoreless until the Blues took the lead with 6:47 remaining. Erik Johnson held the puck near the top of the right circle and flipped a relatively harmless looking wrist shot on net. Quick made the stop, but couldn’t hold the puck as it trickled behind him and over the [...]

End of second: 1-1

Shots were 11-7 in favor of the Kings in the second period. The Blues will be on the power play for the first 1:45 of the third period, after Drew Doughty took an ill-advised, retaliatory slashing penalty late in the second period.

Kings 1, Blues 1

The Kings increased the pressure significantly on the Blues in the second period, and broke through to tie the game with 3:39 remaining. The Kings worked the puck down low, then pushed it up to Matt Greene at the left point. Greene’s high slap shot beat goalie Jaroslav Halak, as Greene recorded his first goal [...]

End of first: Blues 1-0

The Blues outshot the Kings 12-9 in the first period, and St. Louis Jaroslav Halak looked sharp when faced with what pressure the Kings could muster. The Kings went 0-for-2 on the power play in the first period.

Blues 1, Kings 0

The Blues had scored only one power-play goal in their last seven games, but took advantage of a golden opportunity in the middle part of the first period. Two Kings penalties gave St. Louis a 58-second 5-on-3 advantage, and the Blues scored when Matt D’Agostini found Patrik Berglund going to the net backdoor and hit [...]

Kings lineup update

All eight defensemen will be in the warmups tonight for the Kings, and if there are any changes, they will be on the back end. For instance, neither Davis Drewiske nor Peter Harrold will be playing forward, but there remains a chance that one (or both) could be in on defense. UPDATE: Tonight’s scratches have [...]

Scouting the Blues

The St. Louis Blues are expected to regain the services of forward TJ Oshie tonight. Oshie has missed 31 games with a fractured ankle but was removed from the injured-reserve list today and was a full participant in the morning skate. The Blues, much like the Kings, are greatly in need of some positive momentum. [...]

`Shot mentality’ not strong enough for Kings

A clear point of emphasis for the Kings, from the start of the season, has been increasing the number of shots on goal. So far, it hasn’t really worked. The Kings rank 21st in the NHL with an average of 29.0 shots on goal per game, and they haven’t been above 21st since the first [...]

Special teams doomed Kings against Stars

It would be fair to say that a lack of sustained offense was the biggest culprit in the Kings’ loss last night, but they certainly didn’t help themselves by taking five penalties in the game’s first 35 minutes. The Stars’ power play has been hot of late, and while the Kings killed the first three [...]

Short-term outlook good for Simmonds

Just about the only positive news for the Kings in the past couple days was the revelation that Wayne Simmonds apparently won’t be out of the lineup for long. Simmonds was hurt when he got his leg caught in a scrum during Saturday’s game against Edmonton, and Simmonds did not join the Kings on the [...]

Kings turn back to Quick

As noted earlier, Jonathan Quick will be back in goal tonight for the Kings, after Jonathan Bernier started the two previous games, went 1-1-0 and allowed four goals in six periods. Asked for his assessment of Bernier’s play, Terry Murray said, “I thought he was good. In the first period, he had some big stops, [...]

Postgame notes (Jan. 17)

Tuesday skate update

Jonathan Quick will start in goal for the Kings tonight at St. Louis. Terry Murray said he hadn’t decided on any possible lineup changes but that everyone was healthy and available. The news is good in terms of Wayne Simmonds, as Murray said he hopes to have Simmonds in the lineup Thursday against Phoenix. It [...]
