For those who might not have seen it Saturday, here’s a link to the interview that Dean Lombardi did on the FSN telecast Saturday night in Phoenix, in which Lombardi talks about video review and his $50,000 fine. By the way, even though the moment has passed, in the third period Saturday night, the game was stopped for a “review,” and after about a minute, the referee said that no replay was available. To my knowledge, there’s not a single person involved with the Kings who has the slightest idea what they were trying to look at in Toronto or why the game was stopped after a routine save. Pretty amazing stuff…
Ceci n’est pas une video review.

@schlocktober, Clever and appropriate Magritte reference! For those of you who aren’t familiar with the original picture “Ceci n’est past une pipe,” the poke at the NHL here is that the supposed video review the other night was only the appearance of a review, not an actual one.

@812, Ahh, those Belgians. Some are even hockey fans, but probably not Magritte.

Rich, they had just got wind of it and were reviewing the between-periods interview to determine if they were going to fine Dean Lombardi again.

Saw that moment… soooo confusing. Especially after those comments it looked SO suspicious.
I was half expecting them to call it a goal after the replay lol

I remember that moment in the game, best I could figure was that the officials at first thought there was an issue of needing to change some time on the clock, but then for some reason ruled against it

@Pumpernicholl,
I was guessing time on the clock all the way on that one. If they would have changed it, there might have been an extra second (which I thought ticked off prematurely).

…And since the Kings won the game, not a single Kings employee wants to call the NHL and find out why!

@BakoCAkingsCondorsGuy, Interesting how winning cures everything. Me, I would be calling NHL offices after every game, win or lose on calls that went our way and against us ! Gary Bettman would really hate me !
[Reply]
My thought is that they were reviewing the goal to sdee if the puck was deflected or guided in by the phoenix players hand or glove…

@MMF, exactly! Stempniak or whoever was in front pushed scuderi with a cross check motion and at the same time the puck hit his glove and it went in. they had to be checking that.

@MMF, That’s the way I read into / looked at it too. It was pretty obvious to me that the puck changed directions up near the hands.

they were checking out a replay of Heidi and just wanted to share their findings!!!!!
[Reply]
there was a false face off between the save and resuming play. because of the false face off a second ticked off the clock. I think the ref just wanted to set the clock back to the right time or somethin and toronto was like, “no stupid! just play on!” and then the ref was like oh snap, uggghhh (turn on mic)
“there is no replay available on the play”
muttering to self:
“…awww man i look like an idiot”

@bfarm, this is what i thought happened. i think he was trying to say that he was not on the phone trying to do a video review, rather than saying that a video review was not available on a certain play.

I am not amazed at the confusion. It is readily apparent that the officials in Toronto are either blind, on the take or attempting to move the NHL into the WWF market. Of course Bettman is doing his best “invisisble man” imitation and if asked, I am sure he would say “it only affected LA.” It kills me to see the league catering to cities that do not bring new fans to the sport and are not supporting their teams. So Cal hocky is growing, as evidenced by the regular sell-outs at Staples and the Pond. The potential market for increase is huge if marketed right. The Kings organization is doing its part and it would be nice to see the NHL support the Kings organization and their efforts. Nothing drives sports fans away faster (other than losing) than non-neutral or poor officiating

I’m pretty sure they wanted to give the Coyotes some rest and allow them to get their best guys on the ice

it was good of Lombardi to come out on TV and talk about this incident. It shows he has good character and can admit when he makes a mistake…UNLIKE the NHL! he was pretty funny too…he kept Jim’s $10 bill. haha.

@Sebastian,
I’m glad he came on. To be honest i expected a bit more humility from him. I thought his little joke about govt. stimulus and the president was a bit weird, but i don’t want to say more because the rules say i can’t be political. So i’m not being political. I just thought it was a weird jumping off point. I’m still 50/50 on Dean in general. I agree with people when they say he seems likeable though.

that was one of the oddest things I’ve ever seen with that…review that wasn’t a review of something that nobody understood why they stopped the game.
do we think that Toronto was watching our next game after the high stick gaff just to be sure that they got everything right?
I’d like to believe that Toronto/M Murphy don’t do such things, but I sure wouldn’t put it past them
[Reply]
I explained this on another site.
The referee was supposed to drop the puck and Phoenix was to score off the draw. The horn sounded to get the attention of the refs. Mike Murphy wanted to remind the refs to stick to the script. MM had us winning that night to make up for the call the night before since DL apologized for his comments and he wanted to throw us a bone.
Seemed pretty obvious to me..

Ever seen the “I’m a Little Teapot” commercial for Anschutz’ Foundation for a better life? The ref had to sing to his kid.

Cool to actually hear DL talk. It was worth the 50 Geez if it sparked a fire under the club. With the win on Saturday hopefully this started the fire rolling in the minds of the players. Boston is my favorite East Coast team, but tonight they are another team that we must get to early if we are going to have a chance to win. Missing a top player should help out also. It would be great for our spirit if we could get the next two before the All-Star break. Is anyone out there having problems with the feed. It was confusing getting logged on today. Maybe Rich has had to much of me calling people out in my post. Lately I have been a bit judgemental of some of the fans. Letting my words over run out of my fingers,calling people fair weathered and fly bye nighters was flat out wrong. Who am I to think that just because fans are angry and express their views, does not make then any less than a fan then me. Some of us are just flat out mad because the club has not lived up to our expectations. We all are in this together and many of us are on different levels. For me I am not on the level as say some of you are. You guys know all the play by play stuff that sometimes blows me away. Knowledge of the plays are sometimes hard for some of us, especially for us who has never put on skates. Some fans here in Salt Lake don’t think I’m a big enough fan because a never played the game. I just think that hockey is the best of all the major sports. I guess I could go on and on about this,but I won’t. NO MATTER who you are, if your in the Kingdom then from here on out you are all right in my book. Go Kings and kick some Boston But.

@kinginsaltlake, It’s never too late to start. I’m sure there’s a rink near you somewhere if you’re in salt lake. There’s a guy in his 70′s that comes out and plays pick up sometimes. IMO it’ll definitely change your perspective of the game.

They were just delaying so the fans have time to buy another $10 beer. The NHL needs to get a return on their investment in the yotes somehow.
