Ryan Smyth’s postgame thoughts…
(on the game…)
SMYTH: “We worked hard tonight, but little mental things happen. We’ve got to get more traffic, especially against a goal that is on top of his game like Bryzgalov tonight. The power play is awful. We’ve got to be way better, and take more responsibility as a group of five out there, and then the other unit, and almost challenge each other. We had a good, hard practice yesterday with the power play and the special teams, but that sometimes gives you momentum in hockey games and deflates you in hockey games. It’s done that lately for us.”
(on the disputed first Phoenix goal…)
SMYTH: “I don’t want to comment on something i think is… It is what it is. They called it. It’s unfortunate.”
Smyth 1, Lombardi 0.

Smyth actually blames himself and the team for the lost. The call was terrible, but it’s the team’s job to convert at least once on six chances on the power play. Good job, Smyth.

@Wally,
Exactly and we could only be so luck if TM would grow a pair and be man enough to make such a profound confession the way smyth did.

With all the line shuffling that Murray has done, why have the power play units NOT changed? Has it ever occurred to him that the leading scorer from defenseman on power plays is on the SECOND unit? Why the hell is Jarret Stoll still on the point? He either shoots high, wide, or both. If not those, he shoots high right into the goalie’s chest for an easy save with no rebound. How about a low shot for a change? Mix it up, or don’t wonder why not one team in the NHL is afraid to take liberties with this team.

@KingMe20, you obviously were watching some other game, the PP was different last night, had different personnel and played a different style, as a matter of fact, stoll hit the net more time than he missed last night, pay attention.
