Loktionov up; Sturm on I.R.

Marco Sturm has been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to yesterday, with knee tendinitis — the other knee, not the one most recently repaired surgically — and Andrei Loktionov has been officially called up. Presumably, Loktionov will play tonight — he’s on the ice right now for the morning skate — but we’ll find that out shortly. Wayne Simmonds and Ryan Smyth are both participating in the skate as well. More updates to come…

    that’s fine. It really doesn’t matter. We didn’t give anything up, and Lokti is way more usefull at this point than Sturm.

    @Hockey54, Do not put too much on Lotki’s shoulders. he has one of the lowest shooting %s in the AHL. That is not to say that he will not be great one day.

    DUCKSUCK Reply:

    @jet, Yea but atlest he shoots the puck!!! With Smyth crashing the net that is what we need. Now if we could on get JJ to get the puck on net from he point, maybe the power play would get going. Kyle Clifford is my new Milian Lucic.

    @jet, you’re right. haha. I don’t mean to add pressure.

    [Reply]

    David R Reply:

    @jet, well if that means he shoots alot, then thats fine, id rather him shoot alot and miss alot and give other opps for rebounds, as long as everyone is up to crashing the net tonight, which they will be, everyone on the team wants this one, LETS GO!

    [Reply]

    Stuart Reply:

    @David R, is shooting % only shots on goal? or just attempts taken?

    Quisp Reply:

    @jet,

    that cuts both ways. shooting percentage usually (some say always) regresses to the mean. the average is around 13% or so, maybe it’s 12% i forget, and players who over- or under-perform relative to that will come down (or go up) sooner or later.

    @stuart

    it’s goals divided by shots-on-goal. an attempt doesn’t count, except as a blocked shot or a missed shot.

    [Reply]

    jet Reply:

    @Quisp, But, how long is the regression. He was 13 last season, but 2 in the playoffs and under 6% until December. I just think we want to minimize the pressure on the kid.

    @mattmonforton,

    What is interesting to me is how many people post here that seem to have the attitude that all you have to do is wake up one morning and decide you want to make a great trade, and what, it happens. There was a very strong contingent of people posting here over the past off season that wanted Kovalchuk very, very badly. Now there is no way to know for certain how thing would have worked out had Kovalchuk come here instead of New Jersey, but we certainly don’t have to guess how it has turned out for New Jersey so far this season.

    Another sniper a lot of folks wanted when he became a free agent was Marion Gaborik. Well in addition to Gaborik’s fragility, he recently got benched by Torterella for his lack of performance. As Kovalchuk and Gaborik have proven so far this season, a sniper doesn;t always successfully snipe.

    The bottom line is it is far, far easier to TALK about making a trade than it is to actually make a trade.

    @Forum67, Speaking of snipers, what did we get for Cammallieri? Oh, that’s right, be patient.

    RussD Reply:

    @RussD, Speaking of “patience”, how long Deano? You made us swallow three pitiful seasons you referred to as building years. You got the team to finally perform last year, just in time to earn you a contract extension. Now you tell us to “be patient” while the team submerges back into ineptitude. This team has talent. We need someone to motivate them and someone who knows how to pick that motivator. That doesn’t appear to be you. Your talent lies in putting weak teams out on the ice so you can stockpile high draft choices. Well, we’ve done that. Now we need someone who can lead us the rest of the way.
