Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on the game…)
MURRAY: “I liked the energy that we had in the first period. I know we had some turnovers again. The first goal was an example. It came right back at us. But the emotional energy, the physical energy, the skating, we had good jump in our skates, and that was a real good thing to see, right from the first shift, actually. And everybody followed up on that.”

(on Doughty’s hit on Taylor Hall…)
MURRAY: “That was a good play. You know, both of those kids went at each other early in the first period, right in front of our bench. Hall came to Doughty, and it was pretty intense. They were looking to hunt each other down. That’s two young guys who are going to end up playing against each other for 15 years. They’re kind of setting the table here, for that kind of play. It was good to see the way Doughty responded. I was a little bit surprised at Hall at the beginning, because I don’t know him that well, but he wanted to get his share of licks in there too.”

(on whether that type of play had been missing in recent games…)
MURRAY: “It was, a bit. There were a couple fights there that, I thought, would maybe energize us a little more. We just never seemed to find that level of play that we’re talking about right here, from the start, for the 60 minutes. We’d get going for a while, for 40 minutes, 45 minutes. We’d taper off and give (the opponents) an opportunity and it was in the net. Tonight, we had the good energy from the beginning, right through to the end. We got pretty good stops, and our whole mindset of moving the puck and getting it north, getting it into the offensive zone, was excellent. So we’ll just have to move by what happened the other games, now, and look forward to what’s in front of us.”

(on how to build on this win…)
MURRAY: “We’ll just reinforce it. That’s meetings, that’s video review, showing the good things that we were doing and the reasons why you win hockey games. Most important was advancing the puck. I thought, early in the game, we were a little hesitant to move the puck. We had it on our stick, with our defensemen, a little too long, and as we got going, it was going up faster and we were getting better pressure in the offensive zone. That’s the part of it that we’ll talk about.”

(on Doughty’s game being stronger than recent games…)
MURRAY: “It was. He was very alert. He was dialed in, right from the first shift of the game. You saw the play that he made to score his goal. That’s a world-class play, to step in like that. He had a great game.”
