Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on his postgame message…)
MURRAY: “Well, some of the players were talking among themselves before I went in. They were just talking about the game. You guys saw the game. We came out in the second period, after a pretty good start in the first, and we got away, totally, from everything that was going the right way. Turning the pucks over in the neutral zone, not getting it in, not skating the right way. And our pursuit of the puck, whenever it did get in, was not there with enough support to recover pucks. And they kept coming at us, and they had some speed on the rushes and we made some decisions, whenever the attack was coming at us, that were not correct and not right, and it ends up in our net. A faceoff loss, when you see a play like that, I feel you’ve got to have that play. You can’t have a pass go through three or four people. Emotionally, we just let up on the gas pedal in that second period, I felt.”

(on what he thinks needs to change…)
MURRAY: “We’re going to have to score some goals. We’re going to have to be better on the fundamental part of the game. The detail part of it is executed for 40 minutes, 45 minutes. I thought our first five minutes in the second period was good, but in this game it’s 60 minutes. It doesn’t matter who you’re playing. We’re breaking down in the detail part of the game, and everything has to be refocused on, and everything has to become very important throughout the 60 minutes.”

(on Kessel’s goal…)
MURRAY: “The pass goes through feet. It’s a great pass, there’s no question. The player makes the pass, and finds their top scorer, and that’s where his favorite place is, off the back door from that look. I think you’ve got to have that pass. That’s a play that you’ve got to anticipate, not be surprised by, have your sticks ready, your feet ready, and just read it.”

(on potential panic and desperation…)
MURRAY: “I don’t want panic, that’s for sure. I want to play the game the right way for 60 minutes. We know how to do it for 40 minutes, 45 minutes, but we’ve got to get it done for 60 minutes. … I don’t like that word [desperation] either. I don’t like desperation and panic and all that stuff. It comes down to doing things with confidence, executing with structure and system and team play. We know how to do it. You’ve got to go out and do it.”
