First look at Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs are another one of those go-figure teams. Skimming along, near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, on a 2-6-0 skid, the Maple Leafs hosted St. Louis on Thursday and won 6-5 in a shootout. Then, the next night, they allowed the first goal against Atlanta but then smashed the Thrashers with nine consecutive goals and won 9-3. Toronto scored five power-play goals in that game, after being 0-for-8 on the power play in their previous three games. So, like I said, go figure… The Maple Leafs have been cooling their heels in L.A. since, and watch out for 22-year-old rookie goalie James Reimer. A fourth-round pick of the Leafs in 2006, Reimer has started three of the Leafs’ last four games and has allowed only six goals in nine periods. Reimer will start tonight and, perhaps unfortunately for the Kings, he has little to lose. Leafs coach Ron Wilson has already said that Reimer will return to the AHL when Jean-Sebastien Giguere is ready to return from a groin injury, possibly as soon as Thursday. To get a jump-start on the Leafs, check out these stories from the Toronto Sun and the Globe and Mail…
