Postgame notes (Jan. 6)

Some notes from last night’s game…

— The Kings dropped their fifth consecutive game, all in regulation, when they lost to the Nashville Predators 5-2 on Thursday night at Staples Center.

— With the loss, the Kings fell to 11th place in the Western Conference. They’re tied in points with 10th place Minnesota and 12th place Chicago, but have fewer regulation wins than the Wild and two games in hand over the Blackhawks. With 45 points, the Kings are three points behind fourth-place Nashville and two points ahead of 13th-place Columbus. The Kings fell from fourth place to 11th place in seven days.

— The Kings have their first five-game regulation losing streak since Dec. 2007, when they lost eight consecutive games from Dec. 12-26. The Kings had a five-game winless streak in 2008-09, but that included one overtime loss and one shootout loss.

— Four games into their season-long eight-game homestead, the Kings have an 0-4 record. After starting the season with an 11-2-0 record at home, the Kings have a 2-4-1 record in their last seven home games.

— The Kings are now 17-6-0 when scoring the first goal (including two consecutive losses) and 3-12-1 when trailing after the second period.

— The Kings went 1-for-2 on the power play and 1-for-3 on the penalty kill. The Kings are 12-for-43 on the power play in their last 13 games (27.9 percent) but also have allowed eight power-play goals in their last five games and have fallen to 12th in the NHL in penalty-kill efficiency, after being No. 4 less than two weeks ago.

— The Predators outshot the Kings 28-26. The Kings have held their opponents under 30 shots on goal in nine of their last 10 games.

— Jonathan Bernier stopped 23 of 28 shots. In three previous games against Nashville, Bernier stopped 88 of 90 shots.

— Jarret Stoll scored a power-play goal. Stoll had gone 15 consecutive games without a goal. The goal was Stoll’s ninth of the season, in 40 games, and his second power-play goal.

— Kyle Clifford scored a goal, his third goal of the season.

— Anze Kopitar had two assists. Kopitar is now tied for eighth in the NHL in points, with 44, and is tied for sixth in the NHL in assists, with 29. Kopitar has recorded nine assists in his last six games.

— Ryan Smyth had one assist. Smyth has five goals and one assist in his last five games.

— Marco Sturm had one assist. Sturm has two goals and two assists in nine games with the Kings, and broke a streak of three consecutive games without a point.

— Justin Williams was credited with a team-high four shots on goal. Dustin Brown was credited with a game-high seven hits and Rob Scuderi was credited with a game-high five blocked shots.

— Drew Doughty led the Kings in ice time, at 24:54. Anze Kopitar led all Kings forwards in ice time at 21:19.

— The Kings won 29 of 64 faceoffs (45 percent). Michal Handzus won 13 of 19 draws (68 percent) while Anze Kopitar won 4 of 14 draws (29 percent).
