Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts… (on limiting Colorado’s offense…) MURRAY: “It takes 20 guys out there. Everybody committed to the checking part of the game. We know, through lots of games against this team, that they’re dynamic on the offensive part of it. You have to have numbers above them. If you have to have proper [...]

Brown postgame quotes

Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts… (on the road trip…) BROWN: “Overall you look, in retrospect, at this trip and it was a hard one, with those teams. Not only the teams that we were playing, but they were all… Detroit is a top team. Nashville had won a bunch in a row. Same here tonight, and [...]

Quick postgame quotes

Jonathan Quick’s postgame thoughts… (on the unlikely shutouts of Detroit and Colorado…) QUICK: “It’s always good to get a shutout, but tonight it was a great team game. We played a great 60 minutes from start to finish. That Colorado team, that’s a great team. We got a little fortunate that they had a couple [...]

Scuderi postgame quotes

Rob Scuderi’s postgame thoughts… (on if he remembers his last goal…) SCUDERI: “It was a playoff game. Regular season was in Sweden. I’ve got a high (shooting) percentage in Sweden, but not so much in the United States. But I’ll take them any way they come.” (on bookending the trip with 5-0 shutouts at Detroit [...]

FINAL: Kings 5, Avalanche 0

The Kings ended their five-game road trip with a winning record as they put forth one of their best three-periods efforts of the season. Jonathan Quick made 23 saves for his third shutout of the season and Dustin Brown had two goals and two assists. More from the locker room ASAP…

Kings 5, Avalanche 0

A goal, just five seconds after the start of a power play, gave the Kings a 5-0 lead. Jarret Stoll won the draw back to Jack Johnson, who fed a quick cross-ice pass to Justin Williams. Williams’ one-time slap shot from the top of the left circle deflected in off the post.

Kings 4, Avalanche 0

Brown’s big night got even better when 4:57 remaining, as he scored his second goal and recorded his fourth point. Brown took a pass from Ryan Smyth, entered the Colorado zone with speed, and cut to the middle of the ice. Brown fired a wrist shot from between the circles and beat Anderson to make [...]

Kings 3, Avalanche 0

Brown’s third point of the game, a 4-on-4 goal, gave the Kings a 3-0 lead 7:27 into the third period. Anze Kopitar started the play by taking a pass from Drew Doughty and going strong to the net. Anderson sprawled for a save, but went flat on his belly to do so, and the puck [...]

End of second: Kings 2-0

Through two periods, the Kings are outshooting the Avalanche 19-15, and they forced Craig Anderson into a handful of strong saves over the final 10 minutes of the second period.

Kings 2, Avalanche 0

Colorado picked up the pace early in the second period, but the Kings took a 2-0 lead at the 6:31 mark. Drew Doughty got the puck at the blue line and went around a Colorado defender, headed down low. Doughty spotted Brad Richardson in front of the net, and Richardson tapped in Doughty’s centering pass. [...]

End of first: Kings 1-0

The Kings outshot the Avalanche 9-7 in the first period, and there were no penalties for either team. Rob Scuderi had the goal, and three shots on goal, in the first period.

Kings 1, Avalanche 0

Rob Scuderi’s first goal of the season gave the Kings a 1-0 lead with 7:34 remaining in the first period. Dustin Brown started the play by making a nice move to the front of the net. After a scramble, Scuderi’s slap shot from near the top of the right circle was stopped by Craig Anderson, [...]

Scouting the Avalanche

As posted earlier, the Kings figure to have their hands full tonight against the Colorado Avalanche, the NHL’s highest-scoring team and a team on a six-game winning streak. Colorado is expected to regain the services of Daniel Winnik. Special teams will be interesting to watch, as it will be a matchup of the third-ranked Colorado [...]

Manchester Monarchs on a roll

These are good times for the Manchester Monarchs, the Kings’ American Hockey League affiliate. The Monarchs play tonight, and they take a three-game win streak into the game. With a 20-11-1-1 record, they sit atop the Atlantic Division. Much like last season, goaltending has been carrying the Monarchs of late, but the storyline is significantly [...]

Harrold: Kings confident in Fehr’s leadership

In a move that could become very important in about 20 months, the NHL Players’ Association on Saturday voted to name Donald Fehr as its executive director. Fehr, who held the same job for the Major League Baseball Players’ Association from 1983 until 2009, will be tasked with leading the players through the next labor [...]

Sturm back in action tonight

It’s been a long road back to the NHL for Marco Sturm — who hurt his knee in a May 1 playoff game — but the road ends tonight, as Sturm will make his Kings debut in a fourth-line role against Colorado. Sturm participated in this morning’s optional skate. Sturm’s play and conditioning will ultimately [...]

A more familiar Wayne Simmonds

Wayne Simmonds didn’t go anywhere, and yet he has returned. Starting Oct. 30, and for the next 15 games, SImmonds had only one point (a goal) and didn’t appear to be anywhere close to the top of his game, or the type of game that he showed in the past two seasons as one of [...]

Tuesday practice update; Sturm in

Marco Sturm will be in the Kings’ lineup tonight, on the fourth line with Trevor Lewis and Alexei Ponikarovsky. Kevin Westgarth is scheduled to be the healthy scratch. Daniel Winnik, who missed the last game with flu symptoms, is expected to be back in the Colorado lineup tonight. More notes and quotes from the skate [...]
