Jonathan Quick will get the start in goal tomorrow night against San Jose.
Willie Mitchell and Alexei Ponikarovsky went on the ice after practice for skating and a few drills, but there’s no return date set for either player. Terry Murray indicated that Ponikarovsky remains day-to-day and that Michell could be out another week or so. Rule of thumb is, if they’re not in full-team practices, a return isn’t on the horizon. More notes and quotes to come…
Quick will be ready. Hopefully he gets a little help.

No drinking or late parties for the boys tonight. Get some rest, a meal, and be ready for tommorow.
I wish the Kings played a home game on New Years Eve every year like the Stars do. I wonder if the Stars have some special arrangement to do that. It makes for a merry drunken party in downtown Dallas when they win. They have the Dallas countdown party right there outside the arena evry year. The ABC broadcasting station is right there too…anyway…
I missed the opportunity to do this at Christmas so let me do it here, I wish all of the people here a very happy New Year (even those of you who disagree with me from time to time. What is love without a hockey argument mixed in here and there?).
As MS might say “Froye Weinachten und Gesundes Neue Jare.”
I’m bummed right now, but I have no doubt the Kings will be in the play-off picture this year. Last night did not bother me the way losing to Phoenix or St. Louis did. The Flyers are who we think they are, after all.
I’m getting started on removing the bad brain cells, uh…I mean, the bad memories of the past year right now!

With him, it’s been more of a D problem than a goalie problem.

Question…were we outcoached the last two games……meaning did Pnx. and Phi. scout us and found a weakness on our D and on our goalie???

@neil, Scouting had nothing to do with misreads, mental lapses, fumbling the puck at the worst time and losing faceoffs when it counts. Coaching had nothing to do with it either. Being young does.

@wavesinair, @neil,
Missing out on more than one open net, not lifting the puck properly, and rushing some of their shots didn’t help the Kings, either…
That game easily could’ve been 7-7, to OT. Philadelphia’s defense wasn’t so great, either, and they said so after the game.

@wavesinair,
Do the centers work on their faceoffs because the coaches force them?
As much as I love Kopi, he’s got to get better at winning important faceoffs.
Also, the defensive coverage needs to be coached. It is too hot and cold in terms of consistency.
We’re too often watching what’s going on and leaving attacking players wide open.
Those are all coaching issues.
If the players don’t change (Greene/Doughty) then scratch them like TM did with Fro.

Ok I stayed away from the blog from a few min after the game till now. I’m not going back and reading anything, and I’m getting ready to party tonight. Turning the page if you will. Hopefully we can shake this “casual” play we have been showing of late and move forward. The sharks might be kinda upset/embarrassed about the last game so we really need to keep our heads up.
Anyway quicker should rebound tomorrow, and hopefully I’ll be out of bed and recovered in time to watch the game.
Anyway be safe everyone

@Cortex949, Let’s turn the page on this 35 year old volume encyclopedia. I have developed a hockey elbow because of turning the page and moving on to the next chapter.
We still need a proven goal scorer; a healthy defensive-man (aka Mitchell clone); and a committed owner willing to spend $$$$$$$$$$.

@Jamer, The Owners are spending nearly 55 mill on salaries, with 4.4 mill left till we hit the cap. They have given DL the green light to spend whatever he feels is necessary to move forward. How can you criticize the ownership for doing their part.

I’m almost positive you made this up. I would LOVE to see a source.

@wavesinair, Actually, I think the source was DL, in one of those updates Rich provides. He said something along the lines of how he still had plenty under the cap to add someone if he sees something that works, IIRC.

http://capgeek.com/ Also WTFK mentioned the article that I was referencing, I’m just to lazy to go back and look for it. There was also an article last season where the Kings ownership adressed this exact issue, but again I’m too lazy.

@Dominick, Didn’t think so.
