Postgame notes (Dec. 23)

Some notes from last night’s game…

— The Kings returned from their five-game road trip and beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 in a shootout on Thursday night. Dustin Brown and Jarret Stoll scored in the shootout and Jonathan Quick stopped five of six shots.

— The Kings improved to 4-0 in shootouts this season and Jonathan Quick has stopped 16 of 19 shootout attempts.

— Terry Murray recorded his 100th win as Kings coach, reaching that mark faster than any coach in franchise history. Murray is 100-76-21 in 197 games with the Kings. Tom Webster recorded his 100th Kings win in his 211th game. Murray is tied for 18th in all-time coaching wins with 460.

— The Kings moved to sixth in the Western Conference with the win. They are 20-12-1 for 41 points through 33 games. Last season, the Kings had 43 points through 33 games.

— Late in the third period, the Kings were going with lines of Sturm-Kopitar-Brown, Smyth-Stoll-Williams, Clifford-Richardson-Simmonds and Ponikarovsky-Handzus-Lewis.

— The Kings and Oilers were tied with 29 shots each.

— The Kings went 1-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill. The Kings are 6-for-17 (35.3 percent) on the power play in their last six games.

— The Kings are now 12-2-1 at home.

— This was the sixth consecutive time the Kings and Oilers went to a shootout at Staples Center. The Oilers had won the previous five.

— Jonathan Quick stopped 27 of 29 shots for the win. Quick has allowed two or fewer goals in 17 of his 25 starts this season.

— Justin Williams had one goal for his 30th point of the season, in his 33rd game. Last season, Williams totaled 29 points in 49 games. Williams has three goals in his last four games and has recorded at least one point in 25 of 33 games this season.

— Jack Johnson had one goal and one assist. Johnson has two goals and four assists in his last six games, and four power-play assists in his last five games. Of Johnson’s 19 assists this season, 13 have come on the power play.

— Wayne Simmonds had one assist. He has three goals and three assists in his last six games.

— Michal Handzus had one assist. He has four assists in his last five games.

— In his second game with the Kings, Marco Sturm played 12 minutes, 7 seconds, and had one shot on goal and two hits.

— During the game, Matt Grenee did his baseline testing and was cleared to play Sunday against Anaheim.

— Justin Williams was credited with a team-high five shots on goal. Dustin Brown was credited with seven hits and Jack Johnson was credited with two blocked shots.

— Drew Doughty played a game-high 29 minutes, 39 seconds. Anze Kopitar led all Kings forwards in ice time at 21:28.

— The Kings won 34 of 66 faceoffs (52 percent). Jarret Stoll won 13 of 21 draws (62 percent).
