Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on the traffic in front of Quick…)
MURRAY: “I think, on the Keith goal, he just didn’t see it. They had a big body there. We had a player there. But the plays are developed with our own doing, turning the puck over. That’s a Stanley Cup championship team that is a transition hockey club and gets things done the right way on the transition, and they capitalized on it.”

(on whether defensemen should have cleared the front of the net better…)
MURRAY: “No, I wasn’t thinking that. When the puck is coming from the blue line, the way it did on that particular play, I think we’ve just got to cover shot lanes, from everybody. It’s the responsibility of a forward and a D-man. Sometimes you’re going to block them and other times they’re going to find the goaltender. Tonight it found the high blocker side, under the crossbar. Unfortunate that they got that goal, actually. I thought, maybe, we should have done a better job before that play came back to our own end.”

(on the Blackhawks…)
MURRAY: “The first goal was an example of the way they play in the offensive zone. They overloaded with three guys deep in the corner and they play a 3-on-2 game. They have composure with that top line, especially, to make plays and hold onto the puck and move their feet. Now they get into that high umbrella look and they find the shooter in the slot. It’s obviously something they work at. That was there four or five times in the game, and you have to sort it out and make the right reads, and we had a breakdown on it.”

(on Clifford’s goal…)
MURRAY: “That was a very nice goal. That was a real power-forward play. He took it right to the hole. That’s a brave thing to do, and then nice hands as he got to the net. That was a good effort.”

(on the first period…)
MURRAY: “The start wasn’t bad. I thought the first period went pretty well. Both teams were exchanging chances and doing the right thing. We got it to a (1-1) game and they came right back down the ice again, the next shift basically, and got the next goal. That’s been haunting us over the year, and it came back to bite us again today.”
