Quick gets rest after hard, good game

The Kings had an off-ice workout yesterday and a practice today — a rare two-day break between road games — and perhaps nobody appreciated the rest more than Jonathan Quick, after his career-high 51-save effort against Detroit. Quick was outstanding in that game, and reporters joked that he might have needed intravenous fluids after the game. “No, I just drank a few Gatorades and I was fine,” Quick said with a smile. Still, an effort like that can take a lot out of a player, and Quick was asked today about his recovery from the game…

QUICK: “I was a little tired afterward. Not like gassed or anything. After the third (period) I felt pretty good. I didn’t get the work in the third like I did in the second. You get time to rest in between periods, obviously, so I felt good going out into the third. I think us scoring three goals at the beginning of the third helped a lot and took a lot of the pressure off. You’re still playing it, to prevent goals, but it’s not as much of a pressure situation. If a goal does go in, it’s not going to be a 2-1 game. It’s going to be a 5-1 game, so I think that makes it a little bit easier. Overall, I felt pretty good considering how many shots they got.”

Question: When you’re in a middle of a game like that, do you think about it or realize it?

QUICK: “You just really take it one shot at a time, because you can make 30-some saves and then, on the next two, they score. So it can turn at any point. You’ve just got to take it one shot at a time. It doesn’t matter how many saves you make or if you make the save of the year. The next save is the one that counts, so you just try to stay focused and try to continue to do what you’re doing.”
