Bloodied, stitched up, ready to play

Rob Scuderi was back in practice today, two days after receiving a nasty cut to his lip that required approximately 25 stitches. “They did a good job though, compared to the way it looked when I went in,” Scuderi said.

Scuderi has what he called a “bruised tooth,” but so far has not lost any teeth and isn’t expecting to wear any type of face shield in tomorrow’s game against St. Louis. Other than the stitches, Scuderi said his recovery has been limited to “antibiotics and a lot of Neosporin.” The biggest negative has been Scuderi’s inability to eat solid food, which has limited his intake to oatmeal over the past two days.

On a lighter note, Scuderi relayed the story of how his 4-year-old son, Ryan, recently received his first-even stitches after a ball-hockey accident. “When he was watching the (Detroit) game, he said I was copying him,” Scuderi said with a (somewhat-crooked) smile.

    Hockey players never cease to amaze me. I saw a picture of him right after it happened, and his lip was actually completely split…which made me want to puke. NHL players really are warriors.

    Man I can’t imagine having to eat oatmeal for two days and then compete at a high level.

    @Ike,
    Seriously. Same here.

    Sounds like a story to tell your grandkid when he complains about having to eat his veggies or something. “That’s nothing. Why, one time at work, I split my lip open and they had to put in 25 stitches to fix me up. Couldn’t eat anything but oatmeal for two days….”

    People need to calm down about the whole Bernier thing. He will be the starter just give him time, he will be the next closest thing to Marty Brodeur.

    I agree, but people did say the same thing about LaBarbra. Only time will tell.

    @NBC League, At this rate, when might that be ? Quick is so competitive that Bernier is gonna be in for the fight of his life !

    @NBC League,

    How long can the Kings keep him as a backup? Would he want to re-sign here?

    DougS Reply:

    @RoyalPain,
    He’s under contract for two more seasons after this one, and then he’s RFA after that. It isn’t necessarily for him to decide.

    Dominick Reply:

    @DougS, I say this years a learning process. Next years a step ahead. The year after that Quick and Bernier battle it out for the Burrito Supreme. Their contracts are up at the same time, and that’s when it will be too expensive to keep both.

    Kopitar’s was way worse and he came back and scored the shoot out winner first game of the season. Suck it up and get back out there Scudes.

    :D

    Amazing how tuff NHL players are. I remember a major league baseball player pulling a groin muscle on a home run trot and leaving the game because of it. Or pitchers get a little blister and their out. Of the major sports baseball players are by for the biggest wussies.

    Scuds dos’nt get credit. This dude should have an A on his jersey. He gives us 100% every day. This is the big reason why we are the club we are. Let’s hear it for the unsung hero of our club.

    Speaking of Scuds, I got it straight from Scuds and Williams that St. Louis will be no issue. Having grown up there, I have money out on the series…

  18. Edward R. Meek says:

    I saw Scuds get that high stick and the blood gushing. Yes, hockey players are the toughest of all the athletes. Their attitude is” well if I don’t play, someone will take over my job.” I have been around hockey and the worst I ever seen was a player taking a slap shot in the side of the face. He went down but came back up real quick. By the time the trainer was halfway on the ice, the player sprinted towards the locker room, grabbed the towel and was off the ice. Next game he didn’t suit up, but I saw him……nose mangled, stitches near the cheek and eye area, eye was black and blue and green, the eyeball beet red. He had a broken cheekbone….He was back in the lineup one week later with a face mask….his name, Brad Mills, forward with the 1997-98 Indianapolis Ice of the IHL, a player with heart of a mountain lion, guts and fearless.

    I bet if Crosby took a puck in the face that he will be back in the lineup in several days. Yeah, even pretty boy Crosby.
