Postgame notes (Dec. 13)

Some notes from last night’s game…

— The Kings started their five-game road trip with a 5-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night.

— Jonathan Quick made a career-high 51 saves in the shutout. Quick’s previous career high was 45, and the most shots he had faced in a game was 47, both of which took place Jan. 4, 2010 at San Jose.

— Quick became only the second goalie in franchise history to shut out the Red Wings in Detroit. Rogie Vachon did it on March 30, 1978, in a 4-0 victory at the now-demolished Olympia Stadium.

— After losing seven of eight games, the Kings are now 4-0-1 in their last five games.

— The Red Wings outshot the Kings 51-26, including 26-11 in the second period. The Kings have now recorded 27 or fewer shots in seven of their last eight games.

— The Kings went 1-for-2 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

— Anze Kopitar had two goals, for his second multi-goal game of the season and his eighth multi-point game of the season. Kopitar now has five goals in his last five games, six goals in his last seven games and seven goals in his last nine games. The Kings have a 9-2-0 record when Kopitar scores a goal this season.

— Drew Doughty had three assists, tying his season high for assists and points. Doughty had gone 10 consecutive games without a point. Coincidentally, the last game in which Doughty scored was Nov. 17 against Columbus. He also had three points (one goal, two assists).

— Dustin Brown had two assists, and has one goal and six assists in his last five games.

— Jack Johnson scored a goal. He had gone 13 consecutive games without a goal. Both of Johnson’s goals this season have come on the power play.

— Oscar Moller had a goal in his second game with the Kings this season.

— Wayne Simmonds had a goal. In his previous nine games, Simmonds had zero goals and one assist.

— Matt Greene had an assist, on Wayne Simmonds’ goal, for Greene’s first point of the season.

— Kyle Clifford had an assist. After not recording a point in his first 19 games, Clifford has one goal and two assists in his last five games.

— Justin Williams had an assist, and has recorded at least one point in 22 of 28 games this season.

— Alexei Ponikarovsky had an assist for his first point since Oct. 28. In between, Ponikarovsky 12 games with a broken finger.

— In his first game back, after missing 14 games with a broken wrist, Willie Mitchell played a game-high 27 minutes, 10 seconds, and was credited with one hit and one blocked shot.

— The Kings are now 13-2-0 when scoring the first goal, 7-1-0 when leading after the first period and 9-0-0 when leading after the second period.

— Anze Kopitar and Oscar Moller each recorded a team-high four shots on goal. Dustin Brown and Trevor Lewis were each credited with three hits and Drew Doughty, Alec Martinez and Alexei Ponikarovsky were each credited with three blocked shots.

— Anze Kopitar led all Kings forwards in ice time at 18:49.

— The Kings won 25 of 61 faceoffs (41 percent).
