The Kings are expected to call up forward Oscar Moller from Manchester of the AHL. There is an open roster spot currently, so no other move would need to be made. With the Monarchs this season, Moller ranked third on the team with 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) in 19 games. Moller has played 74 games with the Kings since the start of the 2008-09 season.
The 8th LW?
Moller – Kopi – Brown
Smyth – Stoll – Williams

@VanKingsFan,
Me like. Moller has more finish than Lewis. I like lewis, much improved over what I saw last year and at Manchester. However as I keep stating-I see no real finish from him. Another Richardsen type, that can fill in over alt. Sincerely hope Moller sticks.

@Purple Ghost,
I actually prefer Brownie on the LW. Wish he would start making some moves toward the middle and get off some wristers from the high slot. I get the impression he is moving in that direction, needs a game or 2 more. He seems to always go wide and end up with bad angle shots. I do believe (hope) he can start lighting the lamp more often from the left.

@Purple Ghost, I read an article claiming Sturm is about a month from being able to pass a physical which is required to do a trade.

@KingsFaninsano,
Lewis is a third or fourth line player. He is not gifted offensively. He can be effective as a checking forward for years to come if he continues to work hard. He has improved on his faceoffs and is a good skater. Offensively he does not have the tools to make it on the first two lines.

Then it might be (at least until Moller shows something):
Brown—Kopitar—Williams
Smyth—Stoll—Lewis
Poni—Handzus—Simmonds
Clifford—Moller—Westgarth/Zeiler
I think TM will start him on the 4th line.

I gotta say though that I think they should try Moller in the top six at some point soon.

@King John, I agree, but TM also had Richy double shift and play on higher lines for a couple shifts just to give opponents a different look.
I’ll be interested to see if he has improved his strenght along the boards. It was his only weakness imho, but it was a big one. He definately can be a sniper.

@mcsorleyfan, I think if the Kings have a big enough lead in that game going into the 3rd then Doughty will probably wanna handle that himself.
you gotta think that TM will use Moller on the 4th line only…..maybe some PP too?
I love this call up….Moller can bury the damn puck
it’s possible that he makes it up to the first line, but I don’t see that happening unless we start to lose some games. The first three lines should stay together for a least one more game for sure.
either way Congrats to Oscar!
[Reply]
I wonder where he’ll play. 1st line looks good. 2nd line hasn’t been producing since Williams got moved up, but they had some good chances the last game. 3rd line looks good with Poni back.
Moller on the 4th wouldn’t really make sense. Moving Lewis to the 4th is possible, but he’s been playing really well. He’s got good speed, is carrying the puck with alot of confidence and works hard at both ends of the ice. I know he’s not project to be a top 6 forward, but for the time being, he’s one of our better options.
I guess we’ll see what happens on Sat.
[Reply]
Wouldn’t Lewis stay on the second line? It is interesting that they wouldn’t callup Loktionov considering they want him to play center and he was centering that fourth line Lokti has already put up over a point per game in Manchester. Do they want him to develop more or are they guna drop Lewis down and put Moller on the second line I am just kind of confused by the move.

@Michael_DD8, Loktionov is putting up lots of assists if you look at his stats in Manchester.
Problem with Loktionov is he’s not strong on the puck and is still scared of being hit, so he’s not going to rush the net, or stand there and be a pest.
Moller has a lot more grit, and isn’t afraid of getting hit, or going to the dirty areas of the ice to get his chances.
Moller has a better overall game, which is why Loktionov was not called up.
I am hoping that somehow Kozun gets a game or two this season. I know he’s small, but he’s quick, and can create. He probably needs to gain 20lbs, but he definetly has the skills and speed, just needs to bulk up.

@OCKingsFan, I was mildly surprised that Lokti didn’t get called but it’s great to see Oscar coming back. He’s worked hard, is a great leader and he does have a wicked shot, great speed and hands. This is an excellent call-up for the Kings; I hope Oscar sticks this time.

Clifford-Lewis-Zeiler/Westy would be altright with me. Give Oscar the RW2 shot. He is a top 6 talent-dont waste him on the 4th line.

Some good arguments for Moller on the 2nd line, but knowing TM that is not going to happen when Lewis has been playing well and the team is winning.
I do like the move by the Kings. In fact I’ve liked all the moves. Taking the Monarch’s best players one at a time to give them a taste of the Kings and give them a shot at sticking in the early part of the season. We are going to have an excellent feel for our talent pool.

@KC23,
I’m not so sure that Lewis won’t get moved from the second line. Even TM must see by now he’s no scorer. Moller is also a good skater and I don’t see how that line would suffer plugging Moller in there. I do agree that TM doesn’t like to change when the team is winning but Lewis on the second line is really not the reason for the win streak. I do hope Lewis stays in the lineup. He deserves the opportunity to continue playing regularly.

I am not saying that I would not plug Oscar in that spot, but Lewis has been a major contributor for the last eitht to ten games.

@jet, Its a tough call for sure. I like both options, but am leaning toward placing OM on one of the top two lines. Lewis has shown his worth, even when he played on the fourth line. His play on PK and the first shift following PP’s has been stellar.
Practice with both guys in both spots and “see what develops”..

@jet, You’re right, you’re right &….you’re right.
Last night I was sitting there thinking “Shoot, I’d like to see Clifford & Lewis finally get a goal” Well we got one of the two in the net. Lewis has been good, very good. Granted, Stollie & Smytty miss Willy, no question. But Lewis has been very close and has been working his tail off.
I think it’s just a matter of time before they start going in for Lewis. I hate to see the Kings give up on Trevor the way they did with Boyle & Moulson then see the numbers those two are putting up in NY this season.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Moller a center to replace Richardson? I saw all this talk of putting him at wing on this line and that line, but I could have sworn he’s a center like Richardson.

I liked Moller’s presence on the team last season even though he wasnt very productive. But with his NHL experience and history with the team, I think he’s probably gonna be better than Lewis. I Wouldn’t mind if he stuck around on the team even after Richardson comes back
I like the way his name rolls of the tongue too. GOAL!!! OSCAAAAR MOOOOLLLEEERRRRRR!! hahaha

I don’t believe they would call up Moller to center the 4th line. We already have Lewis and Zeiler to fill Richie’s spot.
This may be nothing more than a showcase for a potential trade down the road.
It may also be that the experiment of Lewis at RW2 is over. Good speed but no scoring touch. He deserves to stay in the lineup and C4 is where he belongs at this stage of his career.
I still say Moller is too small but we’ll see. If he can come out of the corner with pucks rather than being crushed, that will be a big improvement.
[Reply]
TM might move a veteran down to the fourth line. He spoke about it many times, the need for a fourth line with experienced players for that shift after the penalty kill / power play when the core players may be gassed.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Simmonds on fourth RW and the rookies spread out a bit more.
There’s more to TM’s madness than just scoring.

I wouldn’t pin any of the wins and losses on any 1 player. Whiskey will probably play about 50 to 65 games this season with more games next season. So he’ll be a healthy scratch here and there, as he learns to be consistant in the NHL.
Right now he’s a depth defenseman when Mitchell comes back, but he’ll be back in soon enough.

@LA HOCKEY Girl, Cliffy only weighs 210 lbs, Westie is 245 lb and is not the biggest enforcer in the league. I think the fear is its not wise to expect Cliffy to scrap vs enforcers that have 30+lbs on him. I have been posting that I hope Cliffy (Age 19) will eventually be about 235lbs and be able to be an enforcer for the Kings that adds 15+ goals a year, but thats a couple years off.

I think Moller has gotten about 20 lbs heavier than the kid we saw get pushed around along the boards. I am very excited to see Mollers skill level with upgraded to average size to battle for the puck.

And what ever happened to Rich Clune? He played well in the last 15 games of the year and the playoffs. I understand they called up King and Zieler for toughness…Clune seems pretty tough to me!
