It’s a tough job…

My LAKings.com feature for this week takes a look at the dirty job of shot blocking in the NHL. There’s little glory in shot blocking, yet it’s an important part of team success. How do they do it? Why do they do it? Here’s a look, and thanks for reading…

    That picture of Grenner is awesome!!! talk about a Gladiator! when a guy can stand there joining his team in the celebration of a win after his face was just pulverized and bloodied by a puck that’s commitment and teamwork at its finest!! invaluable assett IMO! keep it up Greener, your one of my favorites(no love loss on the bad decisions during that horrible stretch).

    @BrokeKingsFan,
    2 years ago I had that picture as my desktop screensaver and wallpaper at work. I was told by our business unit manager to remove it because it was “disturbing those who walk by your desk”

    i don’t understand why there isn’t some kind of formed dense pad with a hard shell that could be loosely fitted over a skate to absorb the impact of a hard rubber puck-bullet. feet are important….

    @rontheking, can you say patent? its a good idea, maybe you should look into developing something like that.

    @rontheking,

    On the outside perhaps but adding thickness to the inside reduces the space between skate and they may rub and catch.

    @rontheking, more people modify equipment due to the bulkiness or lack of range of motion padding provides. According to the picture above I would have to say that protecting the head and face might just be a bit more important.

    I’m getting known as a JJ basher, but let me give him some props. JJ has vastly improved his shot blocking skills.

    I think the most awesome thing about Greeners’ block was that right after he took the shot off the melon, he jumped up and got back in the play.
    I’d still be down on the ice, crying like a little girl

    I heard an interview or commentary about JJ’s improvement on shot blocking. In talking about it I wanted to quote stats and realised I have no idea where to find block shots stat. Looked on the King’s site and NHL.com. Anyone?
