Tuesday practice update

Today was a “maintenance” day for Matt Greene, and Terry Murray said he was hopeful that Greene would be back on the ice tomorrow. Murray did not commit to going with today’s practice lines in Thursday’s game, saying only that he wanted to get a different look in practice. More notes and quotes to come…

    Greene = not traded… makes me happy, but still sad at the same time.

    maybe management is making a run at Sean Couturier!!!!!

    @lafan13, YEa yea yea. U johnny come lately’s think that the Kings are just fine. Yea 4 goals in 4 games and 1 win in the last 8 games are OK. Without a trade and spending some money, this season is OVER FOLKS. Wake up and smell the old hockey sock. What game were you watching last night? 2-0 to the Ducks. Look objectively at the Kings and you will smell that something is rotten this year.&/8 game loses they allowed over 27 goals JJ is -23. Trade Brown/Simpson and JJ for a winger that can score!!!!!!!!

    Stuart Reply:

    @Jamer, is Simpson at MAN? Maybe ONT? Smithers, who is that man? Um, that’s Simpson sir, he plays wing somewhere in the organization… TRADE HIM!

    The Kings are going to continue to struggle until Poni comes back and they add a top 6 left wing. Right now they have 3 guys playing out of position to fill the left side. It is too much to ask. The loss of Poni and Parse have been detrimental to their success.

    lafan13 Reply:

    @JB,
    poni yes…. parse, we could argue about that all day

    [Reply]

    Bill M. Reply:

    @lafan13, Ok, lets argue. My Argument: regardless of the debate over the effectiveness of Parse, it’s still one more hole we have to fill on the position where our depth is weakest. We are playing rookies with little or no NHL experience, we are playing people on their off sides. We aren’t really missing Parse, specifically, it’s that we are missing two left wingers when we don’t have two left wingers to spare.

    [Reply]

    Ersberg Reply:

    @Bill M., Parse is essentially a rookie, is still unproven, has low point totals, and is a stop-gap at best. How can you argue that he’s earned a permanent roster spot?

    He’s not at all a good player, average at best.

    kylecliffordfan Reply:

    @JB, Yeah.. Who cares about Parse he has really never done anything for the kings and probably never will.

    [Reply]

    puck73 Reply:

    @kylecliffordfan, I like you Kyle, but your wrong. 4 pts in 4 games and he did that on a groin that was not totally healed, in other words..he rushed back, overcompensated, and hurt his hip and now will be out till February. But more importantly, he opened up the ice for Brown and Kopi, they were both flying out there with space no less when Parse was in there for only 4 games. Also, Parse was a plus 13 last season and he didnt play on the 1st line like he was going to this season. Bottopm line..you and I agree on Clifford, and are worlds apart on Parse.

    TM is rearranging deck chairs man…

    we need a sniper, to beat that horse dead once and for all. the ducks got speed, man, u gotta give ‘em that.

    but working with what we’ve got: until JJ and DD start making clean, swift outlets and a line with SOME scoring touch can maintain control in the o-zone (esp below hash marks, i.e. cycle) we’re going to be stuck in neutral.

    to be fair, we gotta get some bounces, too.

    One of Brown, Doughty, Johnson, or Greene should be sitting the next game as far as I’m concerned. Don’t know why Terry is in love with the concept of not sending a message, and racking up L’s. It concerns me how little urgency he actually has. Our season is falling apart quickly.

  9. Katy Perry says:

    Blah blah blah…JJ sucks….DD sucks…..TM sucks…..DL sucks….Not much originality going on here. Let’s take a look at some of the real issues:

    1. Dwight King looks like Sasha Baron Cohen;
    2. Heidi Androl, as hot as she is, appears to have man-hands;
    3. Davis Drewiske looks like the love child of Paul Rudd and Rob Lowe. Also, I wish he would change his name to “David.”;
    4. When Smyth gets checked along the boards, he withers up and lays there until the puck is back in the defensive zone; and
    5. The real reason the Kings have been playing so poorly of late is because of the obnoxious a-holes who wave and talk on their cell phones after a Kings game at home when Patrick Oneal is interviewing Jim Fox. I can’t even watch the postgame anymore because of these losers.

    [Reply]

    1. In the face or on the ice??? Could be both

    2. I think Heidi is okay, but i think her rating goes way up simply because she is on TV and associated with hockey

    3. How about Davis Dre? or Davis Whiskey? I like those better

    4. You are not allowed to criticize Smyth on the basis that he is the nicest guy in hockey. PLus he deserves those rest periods after the beating he has taken for his team and country.

    Throw this idea out there into Kings land. How about trying Brandon Kozun on the left side, he seems to be doing just as well in Manchester as well with Moller..?

    Forget a trade since DL seems to be standing ground on what the team has.

    TM doing his normal musical line changes, which sometimes can be hard to keep up with, because 1/4 of the way through the game he changes up things.

    [Reply]

    VanKingsFan Reply:

    @lv is the way, I don’t like this idea. It would be another case of trying to convert a RW to the LW side. Might work, but why continue to mess with guys positions.

    it really sucks that Loktionov wasn’t a natural LW…

    Nitrohockey Reply:

    @backchecker, Well, you could jump on the Chicago bandwagon, or just wait and see who wins it this year and jump on that one if you don’t like the Kings drought. Many of those years were spent blowing up a team, hoping for the quick fix, the “win now” attitude, and left us with no future. Now, we have a real chance to be a dominant team for many years to come, not just a flash in the pan. Anaheim built a win now team and it paid off in 2007, but what have they done lately? Where’s Toronto? St. Louis? Vancouver? We’ve waited this long for one, and I don’t want to stop there! Let’s have a little more patience before we pull the trigger on blowing this up and starting a long rebuilding process. Again.

  13. Bill M. says:

    Try Kozun-Kopi-Brown. No really. Seriously.

    I know Kozun is inexperienced. I know he is small, that he won’t be a physical presence or play great defense.

    I don’t care. Kopi and Brown can already provide those things. Kozun provides the SPEED. Kopi needs a winger with wheels who can join him at full speed on the rush, because that will put defenders on their heels and open up space.

    Kozun is still missing a lot of things that other guys can provide. But the first line doesn’t need those things. The first line needs someone with SPEED and a nose for open ice and shooting areas, and Kozun fits that description as well as anybody.

    Most people see Kopitar playing slow. I see him slowing down to accommodate wingers who can’t match his speed. He has to slow down to avoid offside on the rush, he has to slow down to avoid getting out of sync in the cycle. He’s slowing up his own game to accommodate these mediocre skating wingers, and it looks like he is uncomfortable not being able to open the throttle all the way. Speed and Aggression are the cornerstones of Kopi’s game, and playing with a slow winger is going to put him off his game. A faster winger, even with less experience, should do better.

    [Reply]

    Bill M. Reply:

    @Bill M., As pointed out above, Kozun is a RW. I could have sworn he was Left. Bummer. We really, really are weak at LW.

    [Reply]

    lv is the way Reply:

    @Bill M., right on the money. Look at Martin St Louis..? Small! but he has a ring if i am not mistaken.

    [Reply]

    Bill M. Reply:

    @Bill M., My point still stands with Kopi though. He’s a fast power center. His game is all about speed and aggression, putting defenders on their heels with a blistering attack speed. He can’t do that unless he has a winger to attack with him. Otherwise he gets double teamed trying to attack all by himself.

    Maybe Williams will provide that again. It seemed to work out last year. Kopi and Williams were the strike team, and Smyth was just the clean up crew.
