Ducks postgame quotes

Some quotes from the Ducks’ locker room last night…

JASON BLAKE
(on Jonas Hiller’s play…) “He played outstanding, and made some great, timely saves. In the first period, they came out with more energy and established their game plan. He bailed us out.”

(on his goal…) “I just stepped on the ice and the puck came to me. We had some great opportunities in the second period and the third. I was just fortunate that it went in. It’s great. We just have to make sure we do that consistently and try to capitalize on the other ones, too.”

JONAS HILLER
“We didn’t play too well the last few games at home. We wanted to show we could play better. Everybody played quite well tonight. If we play like that every night, we’ll always have a good chance. We got better every period and that is important.”

“It was one of our better games. I don’t think the first period was that good, but after that we were able to put pressure on them and cycle the puck in their end. We found a way and didn’t back off. We can be happy with this win and it’s something we can build on.”

COACH RANDY CARLYLE
“That’s the type of game our hockey club has to play, night in and night out. It was a good one for us. We had an effort from every member of our group. That is what is important. The true display was at the end of the game, when people that were on the ice were sacrificing their bodies to block shots and get into shooting lanes to protect that shutout for Jonas Hiller.”

(on the Ducks’ defense…) “Everybody has to play defense. If you’re an offensive player, there are certain times that you have to understand the defensive concepts of the team. It’s team before self. Tonight was a perfect example of that from our group.”

    Anyone know if Johnson was credited with an assist on Blake’s goal?

    @Sebastian, Should have been.. What a joke he has turned out to be. I wish they would just trade him already. he is really worthless if you ask me, overrated to say the least.

    @lv is the way, How do you trade something that is worthless? How does a “worthless” player lead the team defense in scoring? How does a “worthless” player basically become Captain of Team America (as mediocre as that team is ;)

    Where was this talk 8 games ago when he was almost a point per game, leading the team in minutes, solid plus rating… etc.

    @VanKingsFan,

    Well put. I can understand the frustation though. It’s hard to believe the guy you’re describing, and the guy we’ve seen the last several games are the same player.

    @VanKingsFan, Collectively, it’s a team game, although JJ’s last two turnovers have lead to gamebreaking 2 on 1′s, but Dewey didn’t help things by taking a boneheaded penalty right out of the box. When it goes bad, it goes really bad. Just like at the start of the season when everying was going good for the team…Dewey is out for a few games and the team steps up…then Poni and Willy go down and we hit the toilet…go figure.

    It’s not like they’ve given up and mailed it in last night…

    @VanKingsFan, I should have not use the word useless, i think more of my rant is just out per frustration. As being a season ticket holder for 23 years and seeing the highs and lows. but last few games including the Boston game shows those Lows. The line in some movie said it best, better to be lucky than good. we just need some luck on our side i guess.

    @lv is the way, i disagree wit him being worthless and needing to be traded. but hes a made some bonehead plays lately that have lead directly to goals against in critical moments of games. hes not keeping his game simple…get the blue line, dump it in, let the forwards do their job.

    Anyone know..does he become UFA or RFA at the end of this season?

    @Sebastian, he’s restricted, herd they are trying to extend his contract to 6-7 years

    AZ King Reply:

    @Sebastian,

    He’s going to a RFA.

    VanKingsFan Reply:

    @Sebastian, RFA
    And dont get me wrong, he is not playing his best hockey right now. But he is a damn talented hockey player.

    I can’t believe people tlak about how we screwed up by letting Moulson go, Frolov go, Boyle go, whoever, but when we have a truly uniquely talented player we still want to get rid of him.

    The grass is not always greener…

    @Sebastian, Agreed, both of JJ’s plays happened in a split second. In the CHI game, if he would have gotten to the puck and fired a shot, maybe a goal? and last night, the puck was bouncing, but he had to pinch during the last 5 minutes.

    So what Zeus? He lost the faceoff, 2 passes and it’s in our net. Maybe Stolli need to teach the other centers how to win faceoffs, and Kopi and Zeus show Stoll where 4×6 is…

    Right now, the Kings are a fraction off. Fowler’s shot was perfect–off the far post and in…Kopi’s shot off that turnover was right into Hiller’s glove. We need a few gifts right now…

    A couple of my notes from the game –

    1. Jonas Hiller looks like he needs to finish his mask
    2. I wonder if Jason Blake has ever tripped over his face shield.

    @Belexes,

    He needs to tint that face shield, because he’s really ugly.

    I hate the duck as much as anyone; if not more but they played a great game against us. If we played that game we would be posting that this team is back. I’m not throwing in the towel but until we get that real talented winger on the first line we will have problems with scoring. We identified a hole in this team that DL was willing to spend upwards of 80 million to fill. And even thought it didn’t work out with Kovi the hole is still there. If that hole is worth 80 million and we are now looking at rookies to fill it, we are living a dream. I know this team is deep with prospects but that’s what they are – Prospects! And most of them are 3rd or 4th liners. I’m not assigning blame to anyone just noting that this is a glaring problem that needs to be addressed now.
    Even in our worst games I see some good things. There is most certainly the feeling of a “Team” out there. However, even the mistakes that lead to goals against us would not seem so much of a concern if we could score our fair share of goals. You can’t expect a goalie to be perfect every game and with that in mind, we are not losing games by the goals we give up but rather loosing by not scoring.
    Most of the game we are doing good things to get the puck in the O zone but we just end up scrambling because we don’t have that “finisher”.
    DL needs to stop looking under rocks for a top line winger. And although he might be trying to do something about it, it certainly doesn’t appear to be the case. We need a winger that makes Kopi a better player and not just a player made better by playing with Kopi.

    Translation: “We had better coaching.”
