DOUGHTY: “I had just gotten out of the box and I came out and took another penalty, and they pretty much scored right away. So obviously, I am not happy with myself for taking that penalty, but it sucks to lose.”
(on the Kings’ slump…)
DOUGHTY: “We know, as a team, we haven’t been creating as many chances as we’d like, and we’ve got to get back to the basics. Getting pucks to the net and getting guys to the goal, that is the only way we are going to be able to score goals. We just need to focus on getting our shots on target, first of all, and having a body in front.”
(on whether he thought his second penalty was a good call…)
DOUGHTY: “No, I didn’t, but at the same time, I’m not going to feel sorry for myself or anything like that. Whether it was a dive or not, we can’t change it now, so we’ve got to look at the bad things we did in this game, and the good things, and improve on the bad things. The next game, it’s a must-win. There’s no way we can lose that game.”

DOUGHTY: “We definitely don’t want to be making giveaways anywhere on the ice. Sometimes things happen. After those giveaways, we just have to make sure that we don’t try to do too much to make up for it, and just play our game. Next game, I think we’ve just got to get pucks in deep. That’s all we can do. We don’t want to be making plays at their blue line. We just have to get pucks in and, in our defensive zone, get them out.”
DOUGHTY: “Basically I ate too much in the off-season. Sue me.”

@steve, That has to be one of the most harshest comments I have EVER seen, it was just this summer where people thought that he was the next Bobby Orr and now look at people. I still think so and DO NOT plan on changing that. We are still lucky to be fans of this crew, go ask the Atlanta Thrashers, NYR, NYI, MIN, CGY(Def them, ask the fans), TOR, NJD. there is an endless list.. Just feel for those fans and their teams..

If you haven’t noticed, Thrasher fans are pretty happy right now…they are just about the hottest team in the NHL. Dustin Byfuglien is on fire for them.
Doughty will come around, but he is definitely not living up to expectations. He has not shown any of what he had last year, and since he came back, JJ is horrible as well.

The next game is a must win? The past 2 games have been must wins. Returning home against the defending Cup champion Hawks who were tired from the night before in Disneyland and there was no heart at all after the first period. Tonight against our cross town rivals who were right behind us, and now are right AHEAD of us in the standings on THEIR home ice in an arena packed with OUR fans. Once again, a good 1st, a lazy 2nd, and a 3rd where we can get absolutely NO offense generated. Given the compete level in the last 2 games, they will probably underestimate Florida and think of it as an easy win instead of a must win.

He is right though. Most of you probably don’t notice it, but the issues are the players. I do think our offensive strategy sucks, thought it last year as well since I hate dump and chase and cycle. 82 games is a grind, 82 games played that way is a freaking eternity. Players will go soft for stretches because your body can’t handle all that constant grinding night in and out.
As for Steve’s comment, he is spot on. This team is having locker room issues regardless of what anyone thinks. Having played sports my entire life, its impossible to go from world beaters to doormat in two weeks unless there are major changes in chemistry. Losing will do that though, we’ve all seen TO on a winning and losing team…so maybe these guys are at each other a bit.
But something has to give because its obvious we have a bunch of individuals out there not playing in the system and not playing for each other.
You fans are a disgrace. You realzie you`re worse than the team is right now hey?

Everyone seems to be giving Doughty a pass just because he was a Norris Candidate last season and because he is our ‘cornertone defenseman of the future’. To me, I think he’s let the accolades get to his head and has gotten away from what got him all those praises as a rookie… He may be hitting more, but he’s playing more loose and not picking his spots the way he is used to. Maybe other teams are keying in on him, but to me, he just seems like he’s coasting this season. I don’t think conditioning is an issue as much as I think his discipline is lacking. He and Jack Johnson are starting to look the same (and in not such a flattering way). Oh well, still 13-10-0, so it’s not quite rock-bottom time. But I think someone needs to light a fire under these guys as they’re getting caught up in all the early season praises they were getting early on…
Let’s hope they can come back against the Panthers and win, but that won’t be an easy game either…

Wow, what a couple poor weeks can do to this place.
Doughty does look slower out there than he did last season, but missing Mitchell really seems to be hurting him. Not only him, but the whole team. Poni and Mitchell helped the defense a lot. It is no wonder that since they got hurt, the Kings have lost 7 of 8.
Come on boys, you better win next game. I’m sitting front row!

I said it last year during our post olympic break this team doesn’t respond to him. Dump and chase and cycle will never win you a Cup because its a horrible strategy, handcuffs your most talented players, slows the game down and God forbid you get behind, you’re not scoring a lot of goals to come back using DCD offense as I call it.
And we see it again, we get shut out and TM is saying we need to tighten things up referring to defense…are you F***ING kidding me??? What team is he watching right now???

i agree…if they play any tighter???? i was at the montreal game last week and boy was i embarrased on how they played as a whole..they had 12 shots thru most of 2 periods on a slow montreal defence…if anything TM show some emotion on the bench….that pisses me off more that he does not get emotional at least if anything we can get the next call…he needs to be a assistant coach where he can focus on playing tight defence…..
had 2 scraps at the game needless to say i was not happy
