Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

MURRAY: “I thought the start of the game was fine. They scored. I didn’t like that first goal they got. I didn’t like it at all. After that, we broke down in a lot of areas. We make it a 2-1 game, and they come right back and score again. But in the second period, we lost composure in the D zone. We really looked loose, and no composure with the puck to make plays. We actually gave them a lot of opportunities, off our own giveaways and turnovers and careless play.”

(on what he didn’t like about the first goal…)
MURRAY: “I don’t like it going through goaltenders. I don’t like that. [pause] I just don’t like it.”

(on defensive breakdowns in front of Bernier…)
MURRAY: “That’s a big part of it. The third goal, they break out from behind their own net and they’re carrying it the full length of the ice, basically, going through five guys. That’s on us. That has nothing to do with the goaltender there. Then it comes to a rebound for a quick shot. We’ve got a lot of work to do. We’ve got a lot of cleaning up to do. They were winning all the races to loose pucks, all the battles along the boards. They played very well. I’ve only seen them play a few times this year, but that’s as good as Montreal has played, in my eyes, this year. They beat us.”

(on where things started to go wrong during this slide…)
MURRAY: “Well, it’s not the total game though. We go back, and we didn’t play well in San Jose. We came home and we had a good game for two periods. We had a tie game going into the third, and we lose it. We have a one-goal game going into the third in the next game, and we lose it. So it’s not a total, three-period breakdown. We’ve played very well. We’re just not finishing it the right way, the way we have been able to shut down games. Right now, there’s a little bit of frustration settling in, because this thing keeps rolling. We’ve got to work through it. That’s all there is to it.”

Please take Dwight King off the first line and give Trevor Lewis a chance there

probably nobody is going to like it going through the goaltender…oh wait! the guy who shot it will probably like it–and maybe his team too….

I did not like the goal either. At the same time Matt Greene should not be jumping up and Richardson should cover when he does, can not give up a 2 on 1 on the pk. Goal #2 was a no call by the ref on goalie interference and Bernier could not see the puck. Goal #3 I blame the team as well, when I saw it I am sure I seen 4 guys just looking at the puck, they seemed to be a step or two behind all ningt. As for goal #4 it reminds me of how things have been going lately with the puck just seeming to go right to the other team. Maybe it is turnovers or dirty bounces but this was not happening in the season earlier.

I have not hitting the panic button yet. But I am inching closer to it.

@dmh012, WHO THE HELL WAS PLAYING TONIGHT!!!!????

It shure did not look like a professional team out there. What is going on? 1-5 in the last six really? We are just falling back into our old ways. Before you know it we will be on the outside looking in. The panic button may not be needed yet but I think a good belt whoopin for the young boy is needed.

Plain and simple Doughty needs to play better. He hasn’t looked good all year. This guy will make $7M next year??? He’s not playing like a superstar. Come on Drew step it up man. Your supposed to be our future????

Question for the coach…do you show the team video of your opponent prior to a game? I mean do you break down their style of play to have a game plan on how to shut them down? if you do then whoever showed video of montreal must have been showing you montreal from another season because everyone seemed lost out there.

I honestly do not get how TM is making it seem like they are playing good. They have been very disappointing lately and I am sure all the fans think so as well.. And in terms of just playing better in the 3rd, well IMO these last few games like tonight, they were playing bad most of the game, and even in San Jose, they were giving goals left and right. I understand that TM wants to keep things positive but he needs to fire them up by something to get them going like they were before these last 6-7 games.. Something needs to be done, starting off with minor things.. Like giving Kopitar and Brown someone who can PLAY on the first line. If the first line had someone who was better than I think this game could have been closer than it was, the first line has the potential to be VERY dangerous and Dwight King won’t make it dangerous(sorry but he is a 3rd liner at best), regardless of playing bad or not. Anyways, GO KINGS GO! WE SHOULD GET THOSE HAWKS!

I just dont get it. We go 8-1 at home and because of 1 bad road trip, people are already throwing this team under the bus. This is a good team! So we have to deal with injuries, thats how the game goes. When Poni and Mitchell were healthy, this team was a top 5 in the NHL. It is pretty much down to this, its gut check time, and Chicago will be a BIG test as to how we set up for games down the road. When we get Poni and Mitchell back, the swagger and confidence will come back. I do feel right now that Quicker should be starting the next 5 to 6 games at least! Bernier seems to have lost some confidence. GO KINGS GO!

Might be time for DL to realize Parse and King are not 1st line players much less AHL 1st line players. are there any AHL Teams that would put these guys on there 1ST LINE dont think so.

kings are a young emotional team.. They thrive off a goalie who makes big saves especially early in the game.. Bernier has not given them good early saves in 7 starts.. Quick has been huge. Its no coincidence Quick is winning and Bernier is losing…The goalies attitude and big saves definitely affect the kings

As I said before the game “Bernier probably wont be seeing much play after tonite because his weaknesses will be clearly exposed and Martinez will have a good game”

Last year I was on the Bernier bandwagon however this isnt working with him… Quick is our guy

Last but not least “WHERE THE HECK IS THE PHYSICAL PLAY AND INTENSITY!!!!!” WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO THE FAST SKATING HARD CHECKING KINGS!

    [Reply]

    SplattDaddy Reply:

@jason, I agree about the lack of physical play. we’re getting pounded on the boards and we seem to only be “pushing” back, not pounding like we were earlier in the season.

The TEAM did not play a good game. To point the finger at one or two players is absurd It’s also time to take King off the first line—that is not the best place for a rookie. And Murray has to become more creative–every play has ben used sooo many times, they are predictable. Also, the PP must improve

  16. Jim Martin says:

The Kings need players that are gritty. They got four or five players that play scared. Just to mention a few, Peter Harrold. What does Murray see in this guy. One particular play at Montreal, he was heading for the puck behind the net and put on the brakes before he hit Hamlik. This guy plays scared, its obvious to everyone but Murray. This team plays vanilla. What are they afraid of. I’m 74 years old and I would play with more grit then this team. The word must be out in the NHL, play physical against this team and they fold. WAKE UP MURRAY AND LOMBARDI, GET SOME PLAYERS THAT PLAY WITH SOME TOUGHNESS OR THIS TEAM WONT SEE THE PLAYOFFS.

    puck73 Reply:

@Jim Martin, Wrong Answer. The problem they have is not enough skill, especially on Kopitars line..They have plenty of grit, but you need a balance of both to win consistently.

I’ve noticed how the other team always has thier best game of the yesr against the Kings. When the Kings loose.

Tm needs to get players in here who like to hit, play with a attitude, and love the rough stuff. This team right now is a team that is scared to hit and play rough. DD is not the player he has been. Wake up LA just because you think you are good you still have to play 60 minutes and prove you are good.
