Quip of the day

After practice today, while surrounded by a half-dozen, local, bilingual media members, Terry Murray was asked about his ability to speak French. Murray said his French was quite good — or used to be, he said — given that he grew up in Quebec. (Murray’s hometown of Shawville is predominantly English-speaking.) Murray then nodded toward the French-speaking reporters.

“I can read it too, so be careful, guys,” Murray said with a laugh.

    I know this is kind of a random thought, but I can’t remember a better coach with the media than TM.

    He never says anything that would give the other team something to pin up on their wall. He also virtually never goes after the refs via the media. He seems quite calculating with his words when talking about his own players.

    @KC23, Believe it or not Andy Murray was also great and classy with the media as well. Met Andy several times and he, like Terry, could not have been nicer. Dont tell that to Ziggy Palffy though !

    @puck73,

    You are hereby banned from coming into the locker room with the other players. LOL

    Gotta say I also had the pleasure of talking with Andy on a couple ocassions and he was always very nice to me.

    @Kingsfanone, Same here…Andy gave my oldest grief because he was buying a Ducks puck in the Kings store (Selanne/Kariya fan) but wearing a fully signed team jersey with Palffy 33 on it. It was hilarious.

    @KC23, It’s all part of the plan.

    Specifically, when you have a young team, your demeanor on and off the ice must never change, dpending upon how you want your team to act.

    Take for example how he acted with the disallowed goal the other night. No screaming, no freaking out. I think everyone knew it was a good goal, but just by reacting the way he did, go through and re-read the interviews with the young Kings. No screaming, no yelling, no over-reaction. Just looking to move on from the game. All to a man stating that the game should never have even got to that point.

    I’m sure on the inside he was bursting with anger…but never let ‘em see ya sweat.

    Rich, (reposting)
    I wanted to ask you, I noticed that you removed the links for the opposing teams blog sites. Maybe for an update? Or did you get rid of them for good? Im sure they weren’t used much, but i actually used them often. Thanks in advance! If you did infact get rid of them, know any place where i can find a list for them?

    This is a very interesting topic, not the least if you happen to be from LA. When I was teaching in LA, I had students who could speak a number of different languages.

    I told them this; if you can speak English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese, you could go almost anywhere in the world and speak to at least one person.

    Of course, at the heart of that reasoning is English, because that is the primary second language in most countries (relative to other languages).

    Once upon a time, the French thought it would be their language. Not so much anymore.

    King John Reply:

    @Doc. Mark 1968,

    If you do add French to the above, you still would cover a lot more countries.

    So moving Simmonds to the first line gets RID of Dwight?

    @Michael_DD8,

    I would bring Loki and or Schenn back and send King to Manchester where I think he will be headed after Montreal anyway. Start sitting Westy every couple games and get Loki Lewis and clifford or Schenn…Someone needs to play out of position..The Kings have all Centers that are the talent it appears…so start making deals to get some quality scoring and D until Mitchell returns..

    @KC23, Agreed. I could care less if we the division or not. The only thing I care about is that they finish somewhere in the top 8 and are in the playoffs. Washington finished 1st overall, had home ice advantage against 8th seeded Montreal and lost. Same with San Jose 2 seasons ago when they finised 1st and had to play the 8th seeded Ducks and lost as well. As long as we are healthy going into the playoffs I like our chances because this team has a lot of character and the goaltending is improving.

    Patrick O’Sullivan was claimed on waivers today by the Minnesota Wild, the original team that drafted him. So they get him back for free. He says he’s excited to be there.

    @King John, i think POS is happy to be anywhere in the NHL! theyve had a few injuries so they plan to use him in the tow 2 lines is what i heard on “On the Fly” last night…i wonder how long that will last. I wish him the best, but seriously…its no coincidence hes been placed on waivers twice now.

    [Reply]

    mrbrett7 Reply:

    @Sebastian, It’s actually a good spot for him. Based upon the type of “high flying” game they want to play, he’s a good fit.

    I will never, however, understand an organization wanting to play a certain style when it’s painfully obvious they do not have one single player to play that way.
