The view from Boston

Here are a couple game stories from the Boston media about last night’s game…

Bruins rally, but fall short in shootout (Boston Globe)

Bruins lose in shootout (Boston Herald)

Also, this was the seat I was initially assigned at TD Garden last night. If there were a lot of holes in my game story, this might be why…

    So yesterday before the game I say that Quick should be playing more and now after his great game all the writers are on board. Too bad Murray doesn’t see it.

    @Billy J,
    Just remember, in the last 5 years, the stanley cup winning goalie has not played more than 62 games in that cup winning season. Resting your starter is not a bad thing….

    What a cool game last night. I’d love to see a LA/Boston Cup final but I will not get too far ahead of myself here.

    I always thought it would be a curse to speak English like a Bostonian but I have been doing some work in linguistics and have developed a deeper respect for dialects (sort of, anyway).

    How many minutes will P.K. last if he drops the gloves with Westy tomorrow? Word has it that the young man needs a little dusting up!

    They were talking Kings again on “Hot Stove” last night! The Kings are now an official topic of discussion around the league. I can tell that Lebrun likes talking about the Kings; what a good man he is. It looks like Iginla is not going anywhere this year.

    @Doc. Mark 1968,
    You should get into the variations of the accent and word choices throughout the area then.

    Merrimack Valley folks have a completely different accent than people from Southie (the most traditionally recognized version) who sound different from the people from the South Shore who are different than the people in the western part of the state.

    And that isn’t even counting the way it bleeds into all the surrounding states.

    This looks like the press area in the old Boston Garden, this is not acceptable for someone who has the status of Rich Hammond……

    What's the frequency, Kenneth? Reply:

    @Simarosa, It’s funny, I remember either Chick Hearn or Bob Miller making entertaining comments about the “hospitality” at the old Boston Garden. I guess that coffin-shaped thing was designed to be just as “accommodating” for the opposing team’s media.

    The hole if for better fart appreciation.
    I know I hate it when I’m seated at a place like this table, and against the wall, solid space deviding legs.
    No where for that warm fart to rise and be appreciated by the nose.

    Wahla, hole in table.

    No really, lame.

    @Doc. Mark 1968, Dude. Everybody is comforted by the smell of most of ones farts. If they say no, they are lying to you. And have little to no sence of humor.

    I have done a study and got college credit for this.

    Thanks Rich ….comments were interesting to read at the end of the Boston Herald article. Kings get respect from readers.

    @Hockey junkie, Boston sports fans typically get dinged because we’re a passionate bunch. But it makes for an amazing atmosphere because the fans put just as much passion into every game of every sport as the players do.

    True rivalries are heated (Celtics/Lakers, Patriots/Colts, Red Sox/Yankees and Bruins/Rangers&Canadiens) but with those aside, the fans tend to be fairly knowledgeable and pretty even keeled outside of game environments.

    We aren’t all like John Edwards. He’s a gem for soundbites on his play by play but he takes homer to a new level, one that is both loved and hated by the local fans.

    Also, I love when you post links to other teams’ media, Rich. It’s nice to get another perspective to the teams and the games. Please continue to do so. Relatedly, I watched some of the game last night on NESN, Jack Edwards is such a homer it’s almost parodical. That being said the man is passionate about hockey and it’s nice to see someone get that excited about the game.

    So Rich, are you supposed to sit in that square hole? What kind of professional team/arena is that? Shocking to say the least.

    Looks like they don’t want you to miss any of the action Rich. They’ve made bathroom stops convenient. Whenever you have to take a dump, you simply move your laptop, drop trou and sit down. They even had a little hole for the toilet paper. What a nice gesture. Boston has serious love for LA. Hope you took advantage of the hospitality as it could only make Boston smell better. ;-)

    tough win last night. gutted it out — we were gassed but hung on.

    i dunno what Ottowa’s looking like this year, but remember a few years ago when the quackers were playing them in the playoffs? alfredsson fired a slapper in frustration AT neidermayer as time ran out on a period. TOTAL assh*(e move. (neidermayer being a quacker notwithstanding)

    @King o’ Philly, Alfredsson was frustrated by the team toughness and defense of Anaheim in that series…they didnt match up well with them at all.
