Quick postgame quotes

Jonathan Quick’s postgame thoughts…

(on the shootout duel with Tim Thomas…)
QUICK: “He’s a great goalie. You’ve got to take your opportunities when you get them, and we were fortunate that Zeus was able to bury it there. It was a big two points and we’re glad to get them, and now we’re looking forward to Ottawa.”

(on winning after losing the three-goal lead…)
QUICK: “That’s a good team over there. It’s a tough building to come into, playing back to back. We did give up a three-goal lead, which is, I feel, unlike us, but at the end of the day we got the two points. We found a way to battle back and get the win.”

(on the shootout…)
QUICK: “I was glad they didn’t put out Chara. I didn’t want to take one off the face from him. It was a big win.”

(on ending the three-game losing streak…)
QUICK: “It was perseverance. The team battled. We never gave up. They did come back and tie the game up, but everyone was still on their toes. No one was down. Everyone was still focused on trying to win the game and doing all the little things right to win the game, and we did.”

(on his conditioning, and his play…)
QUICK: “I felt good. Obviously there are mistakes there that I need to clean up. Every game, you’re going to make mistakes. I was fortunate that it wasn’t too many mistakes that we couldn’t battle back from. I’m glad glad to get the two points. It’s a long time coming. Like Zeus said, it was the first adversity that we faced all year, and I think we battled hard and we deserved two points.”

@Hat trick, It was Lucic. The AP recap had it listed in the notes.

@Hat trick, just as a reminder, in shootouts, Chara, who has a monster slapshot, has been known to skate in, wind up and let it go from between the circles. It’s got to be terrifying, even for seasoned pro goalies.

@EJ, i’m sure it is. you’ve gotta be a masichist to want to take one of those slappers. :D

Hmm…Zeus was the top star, but somehow, Quick (go figure, in Boston) somehow not listed as a star.

Guess the chowderheads were a little bitter about their guy giving up three goals in half a game then getting beat in the shootout.

@What’s the frequency, Kenneth?, I think that if you asked Quick about each goal he’d insist they were stoppable pucks, if he hadn’t erred.

@What’s the frequency, Kenneth?, Yeah, but the Boston Press did give some love to Quicker, mostly because he’s a UMass Grad…

OK everyone say it with me….”We are lucky to have 2 very good goalies”……I’m tired of hearing people hammer Bernier, he’s better than about 90% of the backups in the league. And, he needs to play so Quick has a chance to be great come playoff time. He’s definitely for real, but he’s also human…He needs the rest when he can get it.

@shotongoal – Having stuck around through the years of crap goaltending, I agree that JB is very good, and better than probably most back ups. He is also not as good as JQ (imho). I agree with TM giving JQ a break, but sometimes I wonder about the games JB has been thrust into after sitting several games. I think that’s brought undue criticism on JB.

All told, I have faith in TM and the Kings, and man, JQ did great tonight!

    Shotongoal Reply:

@OC Kings Fan, well what backup is better than a #1? I do think Bernier has regressed a bit, but only because this is a very new and different pressure for him. He’s backing up an Olympic goalie and not playing anywhere near the minutes he used to be playing. I think TM is using both goalies very well at this point in the season. It’s arguable, but I think the reason the team failed in last years playoffs was because Quick wasn’t as sharp as he could have been, to no ones fault really. But, I think the way both goalies are being used so far WILL benefit the team later.

I absolutely have NO complaints with the play of either goalie so far. Quick is doing what a quality #1 should, and Bernier is backing him up and keeping the team in games. Can’t ask for anything more at this stage of the season….The Kings are 13-6!!! I would have taken this record before the season started if offered it! Right?

@OC Kings Fan, Murray’s been good to his word. The longest Bernier’s had to sit is something like eight days.

    KC23 Reply:

@OC Kings Fan, In fairness to TM, Bernier went too long between starts because of only 4 games in two weeks. It was either Quick waiting too long or Bernier and Quick is the hot goalie.

Pretty funny how when we lose, everyone bashes the goalie, and when we win, he’ the greatest goalie on the face of the earth. Quick did not play great and let out a bad rebound on Campbell’s goal. People on here need to stop looking straight at the goalie after every loss or every win. It’s getting REALLY old. Find something new to post about.

    @tantrum4,

How about the PP being ineffective. We need to instill a fear of taking penalties in the opponent and not make it just a 4 on 5 play for the opponents and not shoot the puck.

Quick saved the Kings’ collective asses tonight.

I find it so funny how EVERYBODY on this blog, with the exception of a few and far-between posts were pretty much saying how badly Quick sucked and how great Bernier was (although he played like 2 games last year)! Everybody wanted Bernier to get called up and start in the playoffs. Now all of the sudden Quick is the man and Bernier sucks…I always had Quick’s back and thought that everyone asking for JB to start in playoffs last year were just crazy! Glad to see Quick is doing well though…Jb needs to do a better job keeping the team in the game….who’s mr softee now huh? ha

@kororr, well i do not agree with calling either goalie soft but did it look like 2 of the goals on Quick look soft or he was beat clean but keep beliveing that Quick is the guy so far their should be no complaining with the 13-6 LA Kings their is still more enjoyment to come from this team

@kororr, I AM WITH YOU. EVERYONE WANTED TO THROW QUICK UNDER THE BUS. LAST TIME I WILL SAY IT AHL IS NOT NHL. QUICK IS FAR BETTER THEN BERNIER. BERNIER WILL BE TRADED FOR D DOWN THE LINE. WHILE HE STILL HAS SOME WORTH.

I agree with you. Go Quick!!. As far as Bernier goes, he is a good goalie that need to step up to the challenge and give it all he got. Here is his chance to prove himself that he belong on the NHL.
