Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on the power-play traffic in front of Bernier…)
MURRAY: “Yeah, there was. There was the first goal. That’s the defenseman walking in with a lot of time for people to get there. Our positioning on that play just wasn’t good enough, on the coverage to the defenseman. That allows time, buys time, for everyone else to gather in the crease. That kind of had some eyes there. I think it actually went off one of their players at the front of the net, inside the far post. They had some traffic. They were hungry for pucks. There were loose pucks lying around, like on the power-play goal in the third period. They pounced on the loose puck lying in the crease. They were very focused on dealing with those things.”

(on taking bad penalties…)
MURRAY: “Three penalties in the third period is just too demanding. We have our opportunities early and we don’t capitalize on them, and then in the third, you’re killing three in a row. That’s very hard. Obviously it was. We weren’t able to get it done.”

(on Buffalo’s power play, which had been struggling…)
MURRAY: “You just shoot the puck. That’s all that happens. Roy shoots the puck from the blue line and it finds a way to go in. Same thing with the third goal. It’s a shot. It’s a loose puck. It’s a rebound lying behind the goaltender in the blue paint.”

(on trying to bounce back from a three-game losing streak…)
MURRAY: “It was close tonight. We came out and started very well. I liked the way we came out and played, and did some good things with puck movement and had the opportunities. We ended up getting the first goal, and then the second goal to give us a one-goal lead. Again, we missed some opportunities, unfortunately, in the early going. The focus is there. The work is there. At the end of the day, though, we put ourselves in too tough of a spot by taking three penalties, and we weren’t able to kill them.”
