Jonathan Bernier will start tonight, and will also start Wednesday in Montreal, which is a big thing for Bernier, a native of Quebec. As expected, Dwight King will start the game on the first line and Peter Harrold will replace Jake Muzzin, partnering with Davis Drewiske. More notes and quotes to come…

Bernier is still adjusting to the speed of the NHL. It is great that we have had such a great start and can afford to give him starts is tough games – its exactly what he needs.
He was the AHL goalie of the year last year and deserves some confidence from the fans.

Bob, you don’t sound like a very happy camper. You feel that Bernier hasn’t very good at all for the WHOLE season, which isn’t entirely true. And you are not happy about King on the first line. I think Kings fans will have to exercise some patience. There are reasons why the Kings went to the trouble of getting approval from the NHL for Brayden Schenn to go to Manchester for a “conditioning” assignment.
And by the way, since BOTH goalies have had less than stellar performances in their most recent outings. Would you have preferred Quick against Buffalo and Bernier against Boston on the back to back? Or maybe you would have preferred Quick to play both ends of the back to back?
This will be a very challenging road trip for the Kings since two the teams they are playing, Boston and Montreal, are playing quite well.

This is gonna sound weird, and I know everything evens out especially with the fact that JQuick is likely to start a majority of the games in March or April to peak at the right time for the playoffs, but does anyone think that with our current schedule being so weirdly spaced that perhaps we should ride him a little bit just so he gets games under his belt while he’s hot and doesn’t get rusty?… That being said it seems to make sense to get Bernier a game before Montreal.
Plus I wanna see Quick vs. Thomas on Saturday night. Assuming our D clears our pucks it could be a great goalie duel.

I’m in 1st thanks to Williams, Sharp,Crosby & Stoll. Dumped Zajac for Stoll, paying huge dividends so far. Waiting for Pronger to rack up those pims though. My goaltending is weeeeeeeeeak. Ellis, Hiller & Rinne. Hiller is trade bait after he puts up a shutout or a string of solid “w’s”. Buff is the stuff with that D/RW eligibility, can still plug him in when either d or rw is full.

@puck73, Very true and I always read your posts btw, however I can’t recall any playoff team in this era put a guy who didn’t make the team out of camp on the first line. We do have a plethora of assets built up and some may go stale soon, especially if they continue to be mediocre or injury prone. We can trade for a true 2nd line lw and put him with Kopi and Brown and he would probably put up better #’s than a guy who couldn’t make the team out of camp. Or we could let Moller play and see what he can do with a great center. King could get some garbage/greasy goals but I doubt teams will fear that line.
[Reply]
Bernier should be fine tonight. He’s too good a goaltender to not be able to compete against these guys. I don’t take any team for granted however, but if the team plays well in front of him, the outcome should bode well. And I’m all right with JB starting against the Habs. Last season, Quick started against the Habs at Staples, a game which I went to, and lost 4-2, giving up a particularly brutal shorthanded goal from the blue line. So Bernier should get the nod in Montreal in front of family and friends. Should be an exciting game for him.

I don’t see Quick as overly emotional or streaky so i don’t think sitting after Wednesday’s loss is a big deal. Although Bernier hasn’t been perfect i don’t think he’s been the main reason for any losses. In 20 years of obsessing over the Kings i’ve never had more confidence in our goaltenders.
I also find playing King on the top line a little strange, but Wednesday was the first night i’ve seen him. I thought he was pretty good for his first outing. I’m no hockey mastermind but i liked his hustle and he didn’t look lost out there to me.
It would be crazy to break up Stoll’s line right now. With that said i expect it take another month or two to figure out who to play with Kopitar and Brown.

I think for the most part lately the kings have been shaky at best. Yes Bernier has not been as strong as quick but the guys have not been nearly as strong in front when JB has been in goal either. I think that JB will get better and our D needs to tighten things up and we will do just fine.
[Reply]
Goalies have not been the problem in our 5 loses. I see the problem as not making good passes to get out of the zone. Too many turnovers lead to chances and the D scrambles to get into position when a puck is turned over. This scenario happened on three goals San Jose scored. The go-ahead goal scored by Nash was poor coverage in the D zone.
