    Good deal. He can go there and work on his play and get back up here and fit in

    @brandyn, That is where he belongs. He won’t get any ice time with the Kings.

    not before he played his 10th NHL game. also, i’m almost positive it was an LTIR conditioning assignment.

    Apparently this has fanned the flames (no pun intended) of the Schenn for Iginla rumors. There’s an article written about it on TSN.

    For the record I’m not buying it, I just figured I would post it on here in case anyone was interested.

    @Dan H.,

    Like I said I’m not buying into the rumors. Just saw the article on TSN and figured it would start an interesting discussion.

    I don’t see Schenn going anywhere anytime soon.

    Garry Reply:

    @AZ King, This would be the most stupid move I could imagine. Three year’s at 7m per. He is past his prime and is on pace to score 15 goals this year. Dean, we don’t have to win the cup this year!! Kovalchuk and now this stupid BS.

    yeah, as much as people are downplaying it the last 24 hours, this thing wont go away. i’m sure in another 24 hours it will thin out, but the Schenn-to-Manchester adds a twist to it.

    @AZ King,

    The only way it would make sense is if we gave up a top right winger of our own for him.

    For one thing, we do not need a right winger right now, we need a left. For another, there would have to be some large coin comming off the books in order to take on JI’s salary in a year when we are looking to lock up JJ, Dewey, Wiili and Simmer.

    not true that “there would have to be some large coin comming off the books”.

    we could make the trade and deal with it later..just saying

    FKA PakiFro Reply:

    @Doc. Mark 1968,

    Such as 4M for Zeus and 3.5M for Willy? Not to mention DD’s raise technically will only be 2-3M from a cap hit perspective.

    I know, I know, if they let Zeus and Willy go, who replaces them? I don’t know really. And I don’t think I’d want Lombardi to do the deal. I’d rather he chase Brad Richardson (UFA to be)

    Hurrah for the Monarchs this morning!

    Alec Martinez REALLY wants to get called back up. Its kinda weird that he hasnt been given the chance yet. Muzzy must really be THAT good. Voynov is also kickin tail, making his case. Who needs Hickey.

    [Reply]

    Quisp Reply:

    @Hat trick,

    Martinez, Voynov and Hickey are all more or less in the same ballpark, which is “mobile guys who aren’t too big.” if Johnson were to get hurt, you would probably see one of them; otherwise, it’s the bigger bodies that get the call.

    anyone that thinks DL is not an oustanding GM should look a little deeper into this transaction…..yes I am talking to all of you who wanted DL’s head this summer.

    what a brilliant move!

    how many different doors does this open for a team like the Kings?

    [Reply]

    puck73 Reply:

    @launch, You dont need to convince me. I have always said that it would take 6 to 9 seasons to get this organization running on autopilot and here we are in season 5 and things are getting progressively better each season..68pts,71pts,79pts,101pts. Dean wants this thing to run like it did in New Jersey and Detroit for so many years where they were always in the playoffs every season..DL gets it !

    [Reply]

  11. DesertKing says:

    Outstanding move by the organization. Schenn gets valuable ice time and experience,we keep our option open to keep him with the Kings when he finishes the assignment and once again DL shows why he is the best GM in hockey. We don’t need Iginla and his cap hit. Bring on the Jackets!

    you sir are way off base.

    I don’t even want to say this again, but enough about one player on a team in last place.

    the kings have not made any move to suggest in any way that Shennn will be anything other than an oustanding player in the middle for years to come.

    IF they trade him then I stand corrected, and we better have gotten something in return to warrant such a trade

    [Reply]

    puck73 Reply:

    @launch, I agree. Tell ya what, If we are gonna trade 1st rd picks with big upside like Schenn,or even a Bernier then I want someone between the age of 24 and 27 who is in his prime and can play right now or forget it !

    [Reply]

    Bickleton Wigglesworth III Reply:

    @kfan,
    No way dude. The kid is only 19. He can’t even buy a beer yet and you’re thinking he’s a bust? He’ll be a superb 2nd line center one day, probably in the very near future, but he’s still got some growing to do. Nothing wrong with him spending a little time in the AHL.

    Afterwards, he’ll probably come back to LA maybe play a game or two, and then go off to be a leader for Canada at the WJC over the holidays. Then sometime in January Lombardi will finally have to decide to keep him or send him down. Works great for everyone.

    Also, Kovalchuk sucks.

    puck73 Reply:

    @Bickleton Wigglesworth III, Thanx for the reminder on Kovalspud. Also, here’s some others that suck as well..Melrose, Sydor, Mcnall, Vanderbeek, Grossman, Rod Buskas, Larry Brown, and Raitis !

    Never ever heard of this being legal. If he is going to play, I call no go. If its just training and practices, maybe, but why hasn’t any other team done this then???? Something stinks.

    @Erik4Kings, King’s asked the league before they did it and it was approved. End of story.

    [Reply]

    Quisp Reply:

    @Erik4Kings,

    maybe nobody has done it before because it is of limited benefit. we’re talking about two weeks. schenn’s situation is very specific. it’s not like the “floodgates of junior-eligible teenagers are now going to open up sending a cascade of blue-chip prospects to the AHL for five games each.”

    [Reply]

    holly Reply:

    @Erik4Kings, Schenn’ll get 8 games in, max. Then he’ll be back with the Kings at which point they’re faced with the same decision all over again.

    [Reply]

    Kingsfanone Reply:

    @holly,

    When Schenn is done with his AHL conditioning he can walk right into World Juniors training camp which starts (quoting Quisp earlier I believe) on Dec 1st. Or he can stay with the big club.

    Sending him to Manchester (thank you Bettman also) is a perfect move for DL. DL gets a longer look at him and doesn’t have to make a decision for quite some time now, like in January or so. Win win situation for DL and the Kings, and don’t forget, for Schenn also, as he doesn’t have to go back to Brandon just yet. He gets to play with the pros.

    [Reply]

  14. Kingsfanone says:

    So for anyone who doesn’t get it, this is how good DL is. A lot of people keep saying why hasn’t any other team done this yet? Simple. DL is the first to spot this “loophole” & use it to his advantage.
    Mind you, DL went thru the League to get their blessing. You think the League was happy about it? It’s a loophole. No one who makes rules & policies likes it when someone sidesteps them for an advantage.
    DL is using this so he doesn’t have to send Schenn back to juniors….just yet! Genius, don’t you think? He also doesn’t trigger his ELC.

    If you weren’t a DL fan/supporter before, how can this move not be impressive?

    Well done, Dean!

    [Reply]

    PRMan Reply:

    @Kingsfanone, Except that it’s the CHL’s rule and the NHL and AHL pretty much hate it. I’m not sure if the NHL isn’t actually ecstatic about the move.

    [Reply]

    NOW IMPRESSED Reply:

    @PRMan, If it’s an actual loophole in the rules, look for all the teams to take advantage of it now.

    [Reply]

    NOW IMPRESSED Reply:

    @Kingsfanone, I’m still not sure why the NHL allowed it. If the move is for conditioning, why didn’t the NHL insist on the juniors? Don’t get me wrong, I agree it’s a great move by DL.

    [Reply]

    puck73 Reply:

    @Kingsfanone, Vanderbeek and Lamoureillo thought they found a loophole as well except for one little problem…it was illegal, and they got their ass toasted by the league.

    [Reply]

    Quisp Reply:

    @Kingsfanone,

    It’s not a loophole. The discretion is entirely Bettman’s. He can say, “no, that violates the spirit of the CHL/NHL agreement, which is affirmed by the NHL CBA. Sorry.” He didn’t say that.

    The CHL/NHL agreement has been seeing a bit of a rough patch lately. The NHL recently declared that it believes U.S. born players are exempt from the prohibition on junior-eligible players playing in the AHL.

    Also, the Kings don’t have to loan Schenn to Team Canada, and you can bet the CHL has an interest in whether he plays or not.

    PR -

    Yes, i think it’s possible the league is at least testing the waters.

    Now Impressed -

    Bettman can shut it down anytime. And he can say that the Schenn case was plausible, where other cases might not be. He can do anything he wants.

    [Reply]

    Kingsfanone Reply:

    @Quisp,

    Loophole or not, Schenn is on his way and Dean extends the time when he has to send or keep him here. Bottom line is no matter who or what the rule is for, it worked and was approved.

    I think DL asking for the okay first keeps him out of trouble, unlike Lou, but it was cleared, and no one can argue with it, right?

    Doesn’t matter what anyone says…..it worked! Dean doesn’t need to do it again. Great move!

  15. Barry's Mullet says:

    Genius…

    Let him play 20 minutes game against professionals for 6 or 7 games at center or better yet LW and see what he can do. If he stinks up the place they send him back to junior and if he lights the lamp, he’s next in line for a tryout at LW on Kopi’s line.

    This is hockey, not baseball! You go with what works regardless of position. If Schenn can play with Kopi and I believe he can, let someone else take that second/third line center spot…we have a bunch of talent just waiting in Manchester to fill those 3rd and 4th line rolls. AND don’t forget…Stoll is playing out of his mind at the moment… so right now we look good at center.

    The last piece is a LW to play with Kopi!

    Rich,

    Did Dean say if this will start Schenn’s ELC? Or do the Kings still get 1 more NHL game after the 14 day “conditioning” assignment?

    [Reply]

    Quisp Reply:

    @Sydor25,

    It doesn’t. His contract doesn’t start until he plays his 10th NHL game in one season.

  18. Hat trick says:

    Good move imo. no point in having him sit when he can be playing.

    puck73 Reply:

    @Dude, The only way that happens is if someone is willing to part with a dominant forward in his prime like Jason Allison was who was 24 when we obtained him otherwise…no effffin waay !

    [Reply]

    Kingsfanone Reply:

    @puck73,

    If Dean was going to trade Schenn (which was/is NEVER an option I feel), I don’t think he’d be going through all of this red ink to keep from sending Schenn back to junior.
