Jonathan Bernier’s postgame thoughts…
(on the game…)
BERNIER: “It was great tonight. I think the whole team, and especially that [Stoll] line, had a lot of jump tonight.”
(on beating Nashville again…)
BERNIER: “I guess it just turned out that way. The guys played really well tonight.”
(on getting the early goal support…)
BERNIER: “I think that was our game plan at first, come out strong. We had some issues in the past (against Nashville), but it was a really big two points for our confidence right now.”
(on the Kings’ defense…)
BERNIER: “It was great. I can’t complain about that. All the shots were from the outside. They had a few scoring chances on the power play, but most of it was outstanding.”
Best full game yet this season. Still not seeing the JB we saw last year when he came up, but he was under much better control this game.

@AZ King,
I agree. A few times he was sketchy with the puck behind the net & where he passed it to. Whew! I thought he was very fortunate to get away with only 1 goal against. The D came up big tonight with the many blocked shots and also cleared the rebounds in front.

It is very risky making strong or sweeping statement this early in the season. That fact notwithstanding, I have some strong and sweeping statements to make.
This King’s team, without ANY additional component(s) is strong enough, quick enough, and well disciplined enough to go deep into the playoffs and challenge for The Cup.
This King’s team has one of the best goalie tandems, if not THE best goalie tandem, in the NHL.
This King’s team from one through six have one of the best defensive corps, if not THE best defensive corp, in the NHL.
The only things missing in the early going is a more consistent power play and a left wing for the top line. I personally don’t think it’s going to be Scott Parse, but I am sure TM will give him at least the rest of this current home stand to see if he can take on that role for the remainder of the season.
Here’s hoping the power play becomes more consistent (and I think it will) and that Scott Parse will prove me wrong about not being the guy to be the left wing on the top line.

Scott Parse has played well in his first 2 games back. I think he has the speed and is cutting to the slot area where if he gets a pass he will have a good scoring opportunity. Bernier had a very good game, and should make it easier for TM to stick to his 60 regular season plan for Quick. We all can see how good Quick can be, and even the hardest critics would likely now agree that he wore out in late March and thru the playoffs last year.

@luc20rules,
The most important thing I have seen from Parse is his improved Defense. He made 2 nice D- plays tonight and even blocked a shot I believe. He’s quicker on the forecheck and on the bakcheck faster than last year. Looks like he got the message!
Well done Scotty!

@luc20rules, I watched him close tonight (Parse) and I thought he played great. Seems to be fashioning his style of play to how Smyth plays in front of the net. I think we are going to see our first line start to take off once Parse gets his timing back.

@KC23,
There were quit a few times where Parse got himself open in the slot, but Brownie når Kopi saw him. So, I like his nose for the areas. I liked him last year and I hope and think he will nail down this spot.

@src, I didn’t realize how small Parse really is??
Effective however very small, to your point though he can find the seams in the offensive zone which is very important

@KC23,
Yeah, in the 3rd period I saw Parse open (skating ahead of his D in the slot) in front of the net, but Brownie didn’t see him from the corner. I think Parsely had a shot at a goal if Brownie could’ve gotten him the puck.

@luc20rules,
If Parse doesn’t work out on the top line I’d like to see Oscar Moeller be called up and audition for the spot.
