Jake Muzzin’s time with the Kings ended, at least for now, today when he was assigned to Manchester to make room for Drew Doughty on the active roster. I think it’s accurate to say that Muzzin didn’t draw a lot of attention to himself, and for the most part that’s a positive thing. He did not get called for a penalty in eight games and had a minus-1 rating. For a 21-year-old rookie, straight out of junior, he played with relatively good poise and hockey sense. The thinking is that Muzzin can eventually make himself noticed more, in a positive way, with an offensive impact. He had one assist in eight games. I asked Terry Murray today what the parting words to Muzzin would be, and for his impressions of Muzzin’s play.
MURRAY: “A lot of positive stuff, a lot of things that he does very well. His gaps, his attitude, his gritty play. He had some big hits. We’ll focus in on one or two areas that we want him to give a big push on. But in general, the overall game just needs to be…he just needs to play, needs to keep working at his game in the overall scheme of things. We like a lot of the stuff he’s doing.”
