This week’s break in action has brought the “junior countdown clock” to a temporary halt. Brayden Schenn has played eight games and Kyle Cifford has played seven. Before each plays his 10th game, the Kings must decide whether to return them to their junior teams or keep them and burn a year from the pro contracts. Andrei Loktionov’s assignment to Manchester is certainly a positive for both players’ chances of staying with the Kings, but Terry Murray indicated today that the Kings would wait until the “deadline” before making a decision on Clifford and Schenn. Murray said he and GM Dean Lombardi have had preliminary discussions about the players’ future.
“There’s probably going to be a follow-up meeting on it,” Murray said. “We’ll get through the next couple games and make a decision.”
