Yeah just noticed that one when I checked the NHL site.
Hey Rich,
If you can edit the story. Paragraph 5, first sentence. You have a mistake.
It reads: “With the victory, the Kings improved to 4-0 at home and now have a four-day rest after playing seven games in the previous 11 games”
I believe you meant to say, seven games in the previous 11 days.
[Reply]
Kovy who?

Think “after playing seven games in the previous 11 games” should be “after playing seven games in the previous 11 nights.”

My first kings game this year was terrific. The team is looking great even though they tired and sat back on heels in the third.
Imagine this —- 82 games divided by 11 times 16 points = at this rate 119 points….
Yes a long way to go but imagine when DD is back along with Parse.
And by Jan, also imagine how many players night be interested in being a king.
Our quest for a sniper just might happen

@ezepace, I predicted 49 wins and 109 points…Hey, your guess is as good as mine.
My list of real hopefuls in June was Mitchell or Hamhuis or Martin, and Mathew Lombardi for his speeed, Of course IK or another sniper for goal scoring , Ponikavarosky or Lee Spempniak.
So we did great with Mitchell and Pony. We dod miss out on the speedy Lombardi.
But really all me need is a great goal scoring sniper.
Rich how about a survery for candidates.
Looks like Parise just got injured and I doubt he will be available mid season and the same with will Brad RIchards. These would be my top two , but I dont want to wait till next year. I want us to try and get someone mid year to make a real run at it all.
Some great choices just wont be available such as Bobby Ryan.
SO who are our realistic hopefuls?

@ezepace,
Ive watched all our games and some other teams. We lack a game changer like a Phil Kessel or a Rick Nash , or a Sedin or an Ovechkin or a Stamkos, or a Heatley , or a Patrick Kane or a Crosby. What we lack is a speedster that can explode and overpower and score. Ifr we had this I think we could win it all. That would make Kopi and DD and JJ so so much better. We already have some of the best defense and goal tending in the league.
We also have a terrific core of a team. I dont mean to take anything away from what they are doing. The chemistry is great.
Im just pointing out that in my opinion, that is we had that game changer we could win it all. I sense DL knows this too and why he tried hard to land such a player.
With the young guys filling in better than most expected this year we are on a great path.
[Reply]
ezepace Reply:

@ezepace, The reason I suggested this RIch was to give Dl some ideas of what player the fans might want. It has been stated a number of times that DL is also looking for such a player.
I am curious as to what we all think as fans. We have so much young tradeable talent.
However I have a few untouchables that I dont want us to give up. But I respect DLs judgement here a lot as to what he would do.
Im simply asking who we as fans would chose as a sniper. I want someone that will aid Kopi and make him the 100 point scorer he can be. And give the Kings the game changer we need when the game is on the line. I saw glimpses of Bobby Orr in Drew and I sense JJ could be such a player if we was transformed into a forward.

Some sour grapes from Kovalsuck:
“I’ve played in a lot of places where I got booed. It’s their choice to boo or not,” Kovalchuk said. “The Kings are one of the teams that tried to sign me, and the (recruiting) trip here was more for my wife, because she’d never been in L.A., and she wanted to go see it. So we went. But there’s no point in talking about it anymore because I’m proud to be with the New Jersey Devils.”

@Lanny McDonald’s ‘Stache,
It was a proud night to be a Kings fan at Staples. First the tribute to class act in Norstrom followed by a winning hockey team playing a former powerhouse and beating them. I think the best part was watching the emergence of the Kings fans as a unified group. LA fans always get knocked for being somewhat undedicated. Tonight, the fans were together. Every time Kovi touched the puck, he heard it from the fans. I thought it might last a couple of possesions, maybe a period, but we kept it going through the whole game. Thank you fellow King’s fans, I had a great time tonight!

Tuned into Kings Talk 1150 after the game and the first thing I hear is a guy COMPLAINING that all the Kings goals came off hard work. That the Kings need a flashy forward to score. I’m sick of this fault finding. Yes a dazzling scorer would be fun to watch, but if hard work is the culture of this organization and they are winning, STOP COMPLAINING. I would rather have a team full of hard working team players than pinning my hopes on one player. When that player gets hurt or goes into a slump, the whole team suffers. As it is we’ve lost one of the best defenseman in the league and we have not collapsed because of it. At the moment the Kings are #1 in the entire NHL. Enjoy it and stop trying to find fault with an organization that has developed a plan and stuck with it long enough to see the dividends.

@Adamic39,
I agree. I went through the same arguement at the end of last season! To comment on the “FLASHY FORWARD” all what people want to see is someone that will put fans in the seats. I myself, like to see the hard work. To me with the Kings being the #1 youngest team in the NHL, if they get a flashy forward the team will depend too much on that player to help them win. Therefore, the TEAM will stop trying as hard because they have that flashy forward that will put pucks in the net! They will think… OH, it is ok, I didnt score, well, this “INSERT FLASHY PLAYER NAME HERE” will pick it up for me and get the goal I didnt make. Than we will be in the same boat NJ Devils, is at now. Same goes for the Capitals… they have what it takes to be a top team during the season, but what has the Caps done, to win a cup? Last I checked, Chicago didnt win the cup because of Hossa! They won as a team unit and got the job done, to finally host the Cup, because they had depth and character, as our team does. To see the Kings improve over the last few years, and to offically be on top of the NHL… proves that the Kings have the goods to win games with the team we have now. Michell and Poni, was a big signing for us during the off-season, and added pieces we needed. We don’t need a FLASHY FORWARD… all we need is team effort and we have that!
Last I checked, there is no “I” in “TEAM”, unless I am totally spelling it wrong!!

@Tim from the OC,
I agree. However, the SHOT MENTALITY that TM is having on the Kings is paying off. Whenever, you have a chance, just shoot it at the net, you may or may not get lucky with a goal, but there are players driving at the net to rebound, or like you said, bounces off whatever, as long as you shoot the puck… more than likely it will go in. I see a goal as a goal… but to get goals, ya need to shoot, and we are accomplishing that now!

Also the Ducks are right down there with the Devils… LOL it feels great to be a Kings fan.

@MR King, Agreed. Plus, look at the players that came out to honor Matty. You know when a hard working guy like Lappy takes time from his rehab to be here..thats respect at its highest level. Also great ta see Rob Blake and Mathieu Schneider here as well along with video tributes from Dave Tippett and Adam Deadmarsh. It was also great to see Larry Robinson down there as well taking it all in and applauding. Also you could see honoring Matty meant a lot to Dustin Brown because that punk Sean Avery really gave Dustin a bad time when Brownie was a young player trying to make it in this league while a veteran like Matty made sure the kid played with confidence.

RE: Kovalchuk’s words-
Ilya is the epitome of the exact player we do NOT want in LA anyway. I would not be surprised if his wife had more class than him. I’m sure there is a slight chance that maybe his English is limited and He does not realize the comment he made to (basically) every single fan of the LA kings and our team. Somehow I doubt is was a mistake.
Having the best team in the entire NHL makes it that much easier to ignore him. He is FINALLY the perfect player to represent the NOW old stigma on why players do not want to come to LA. Now that it’s biting him in the a$$, I’m sure other players will notice that LA is not such a bad place to be anymore.
I’m glad he’s proud to be a Devil, because I’m sure proud he’s NOT a King.

Good game all around. Best game I’ve seen by the 4th line as a whole. After tonight I would feel much more comfortable about keeping both Schenn and Clifford up here for the season. I think it’s time to send Lokti back to Manchester, there’s no point in keeping him up here just to sit in the press box.
My biggest question still remains, what do you do when Parse gets back? I’d like to see him on Kopi’s wing, just so Kopi can have two wingers instead of one winger (Brown), and another center filling in as a winger (Lokti, Richie). Maybe that will get that line going.
Good thing we’re not the one’s that have to make that decision, we just get to sit back and watch the results.

The Kings are winning, true. And Quick is keeping the Kings in these games. But playing this way won’t get you deep into the playoffs. I don’t know what TM is doing with the line ups, but richardson & brown w/kopitar..wtf I like both of them alot…but brown is a 2nd liner and Richardson a 3rd liner at Best. Kopitar is dying out there, how about the following, until some of the injured return???
1) Ponikarovsky, Kopitar, Williams
2) Smyth, Stoll, Brown
3) Richarsson, Handzus, Simmonds
4) Schenn, Westgarth, Clifford (this will change in a few days anyway)

I agree the 1st line needs a spark, but the last thing I would want to do is break up Poni-Zus-Simmer. Also why in the world would you ever break up our highest scoring line. I understand wanting to get Kopi going, but you don’t rip apart a productive line to do it.
Odds are Richie will end up back on the 4th line when Parse comes back, which should be pretty soon according to Rich. My guess is Parse will end up on Kopi’s line when he comes back. Maybe that will bring the jump that line needs.
