The Kings improved to 4-0 at home, as they were outshot 40-23 but were rarely threatened in the third period and beat the Devils. Jarret Stoll had a three-point nine (one goal, two assists) and Jonathan Quick improved to 7-1 while Ilya Kovalchuk did not record a point and had two shots on goal.

This is awesome in every way. Kings win. Evilchuk blanked. Kings in first place again. Solid performance in every way.
And…did I read that right? 40 shots for quick and only one goal? That’ll do wonders for your numbers!

HEHE, rad. Quick huge. Stoll my lord! Poni better than Fro. The rest of the team, Great.
Shots are shots, but goals count.

Overall a great game by the Kings. I do think Murray will harp on the team for puck possession time in the 3rd period. But otherwise I was very impressed with the teamwork.
Kovalchuk must have been on the ice for 40 minutes, and I can honestly say that I cannot remember him passing once or ever see him play behind his own blue line tonight. The defense did a good job for the most part of containing him.

@Joel,
You missed quite a few good passes then. One to stone hands Adam Mair that would have sprung him down the middle but he couldn’t handle the pass.

Poni has been great the last few games. More D than fro ever played. Exciting is all I can say. Last year was exciting… This is awesome.
Loved seeing Lappy. What an great guy to have on your team. Hope he recovers 100%.
Go Kings!!!!!

GREAT all around effort by the boys tonight! I know it’s early, but,,,, folks, we’ve got us a hockey club here! First time in 27 years I’ve seen such a complete team for a sustained time. I know it’s only 11 games in, but I’m getting pretty excited. Keep it up boys.
Go Kings.

It is such a pleasure to watch this team! Seems like they’re going to make one hell of a dent this season.
[Reply]
That was the same old boring ass Devils hockey that we all know and love.
I am not happy about being hemmed in our own zone for a whole period. But can anyone who knows hockey more than me tell me, what exactly are the Devs trying to accomplish? What was their game plan? Did anyone see a plan for them? Oh well, I guess that is their problem, not ours.
It’s a great win, but don’t get too high; it’s only the Devils.
[Reply]
Didnt think this was the Kings best effort. I thought New Jersey really pressured us in our own zone and were keeping pucks in at the blue line…very frustrating. That being said, our coverage right in front of the net and the solid, confident play of Jon Quick was what got us these 2 points. Also, it shows how good this team is when you dont play your best game and yet you still come away with the W.

I know some of you are going to say, where have I been. For now, it is easier for me to post in spurts. So bare with me. I have to cover the first 11 games of the season, and what I think of the Kings team as a whole, and the Koval… whats his name again? situation:
First off, after the Kings game in Calgary, I was worried. It is hard for us to get goals on the board and it seemed we were going to struggle, however, after 2 games, I was not THAT worried, I knew we were going to rebound and the goals were going to start coming and they have!! Kings have played very well, over these 11 games, and the game against Chi-town was a hard fought game, unfortunately we lost. Tonight, against the Devils we showed we can be off a game a bit and still come up with a win and HUGE 2 points! I did NOT expect the Kings, in a month to be leading the NHL… so it shows how great we can really be this season.
Players that stood out for these 11 games:
STOLL ~ What an improvement Stoll has become! Last season, he sucked on the back end on the power play and he didnt put much on the board. However, last season, he was great in the face-offs department. This year, he is coming up with BIG hits, BIG goals, and again BIG face-off wins. If he continues this play, all season long… he will be DOMINATE!!
PONI ~ Poni has impressed me in so many ways. The backcheck, the blocking of shots, the way he handles his stick. I dont expect him to get alot of goals, but if he plays great in our end and continues to block shots, I would love to see Dean-o resign him at the end of the year! What an improved player over Frolov. Frolov was great at handling the puck, but what else is he wanting to contribute?
Kopitar ~ Yes, even thou Kopi hasnt done much on the board offensively, he still is playing great on the backcheck. What a great two-way forward Kopi is becoming!
Bernier ~ His is a bit different. If Bernier can learn the thought process on when and when NOT to try the poke-check, he will be better than his numbers show now!
Quick ~ All I can say to this is…. WOW!!! With Quick losing weight adding muscle, he truly has shown that he is not a ONE SEASON goaltender. All you other 29 teams, better watch out… Quick is loose, and hes coming to stop the big pucks!!
Other noteable players to mention: Jack Johnson, Willie Michell, Kyle Clifford, and Jake Muzzin. Keep up the hard work, and you will help this team to new heights!!
Players that are just level right now: Pretty much the rest of the rookie squad. They are doing good and just need to continue to improve!
Rest of the team: They are doing good, just not as impressive/makes a mark as the other above players. Feel free to add on if you feel I missed players who have impressed!!
Also, the highlight moments: THANK YOU ALL FOR BOOING THAT NO GOOD ROTTEN MONEY GRUBBING KOVALCHUK!!! It was a honor to see him get shut down, and the Devils continue to struggle. Tonight proved, that we didnt really need him in the first place to make us a better hockey club.
Mattias Norstrom, it was a pleasure seeing him again on the ice at Staples Center. The ceremony for him brought tears to my eyes… esp. when I saw Lappy, Army, Schneider, and the rest of his 8 teammates, including Rob Blake. Seeing Deadmarsh make a video comment, and Larry Robinson, clapping behind the glass, was just amazing. THANK YOU MATTY FOR THE YEARS YOU HELPED OUR CLUB!! Enjoy your coffee machine! =)
GO KINGS GO! What a way to end October, 1st in the NHL and 1st in the conference. Look forward to the month of November.

The most awesome part of this… it’s like the hockey gods or shining on LA, not only because of our success and the Devils’ failure so far, but by giving Kovalchuk a good enough name for us to play on.
Kovalsuck, Kovalupchuk, Kovalchoke… They all make it too easy for us.

The Devils are certainly reeling right now but they have won three Cups and are a very respected organization. The Kings on the other-hand are an up and coming team that as an organization is building an identity out of past futility. Boasting and beating up the Devils is fine but put things into perspective Kings fans. We’ve not accomplished anything yet. Until we hoist a Cup or win a few playoff series’ then we can think about resting on our burgeoning laurels.
As to the game- another solid effort. I would have liked to see us counter the Devils’ pinch in the third and create more break ways. They really poured things on there with 20 shots.
I would really like to see Kopitar in the top 5 in scoring week after week. He’s that good. I can’t put my finger on why he is not putting up the sick numbers that he is capable of. I like the energy of the “1st” line. Both Richardson and Brownie are excellent skaters. I can’t criticize Brownie’s play but we need a player who can take passes from Kopitar and put the puck in the net. Parse might fit that role. I think that is in the back of TM’s mind. With Kopitar cycling and dishing, Brownie in front of the net and Parse as the F3 up high, in the slot, near the dots ready to snipe, I think that would make for a very productive line.
