Bernier postgame quotes

Jonathan Bernier’s postgame thoughts…

(on the first goal, and Drewiske’s deflection…)
BERNIER: “We’ve had some tough luck since the beginning of the season, me and him. Unfortunately it was a goal. So we started off the game 1-0, and we came back but Turco played very good tonight. He made some big saves and we hit the post. It could have been a differen score.”

(on the second goal…)
BERNIER: “I didn’t see it at first. I just saw it at the end. It hit the inside of my blocker and popped right in front. It just feels like, since the beginning of the season, that every mistake I make ends up in the back of my net. I just have to stay positive and my game should come back if I stay positive.”

@brandyn, I don’t understand why Coach Murray plays the second string goalie on the first night of back to back games. he did it last year and the kings lost both games I think three times. what Happened to ONE GAME AT A TIME. win tonight, worry about tmrw. night tmrw night. Play quick and see if he feels good enough to play tmrw night. He was tired last year from his wife giving birth to there first child not too many games…please he is a kid. kids don’t get tired from to much play. Brodour has been playing 70 games his whole career and is the best all time. I hate watching the Kings lose because the Goalie is not in the right position….fire the goalie coach.

What I think LA needs is another offensive d man. It’s pretty obvious when Drew is out of the lineup we have nothing back there. Mitchell, Scuderi, Greene, Drewiskie and Harrold are all top notch defensive defenseman, but they can’t make an offensive play from the blue line to save their life. And Jack is, well, Jack. He tries hard but he just doesn’t have “it”. We need someone back there to compliment Drew, and to be our backbone when he’s out of the lineup.

@tantrum4, have you watched Harrold since he has been with the Kings? Harrold is a top-four defensemen who plays a two-way game. Sorry if I come off being mean, but every Kings man thinks of Harrold as this lowlife extra defensemen. Harrold is a solid top-four defensemen who plays a great two way game. He just doesn’t get the opportunity to prove it. I LOVE PETER HARROLD!

Bernier wasn’t just crying in his beer. DD2 was involved in both the 1st and 3rd Hawks goals.

Deflected the first, helped poke in the 3rd. DD2′s level of play is excellent until those brief but deadly moments when it isn’t

In each game DD2 mistakes have lead to either a dangerous shot or a goal. My favorite so far was standing behind the Kings net, reaching up and batting the puck to the ice in front of Quick and a waiting ‘Cane forward. Classic.

Last night he was on ice for two Chicago goals. It appeared his stick was the last to touch the puck on each goal.

The man plays well then goes into brief bonehead modes which cost the Kings dearly.

His rushes look great but usually end with a weak shot, a missed pass or a lost puck.

With that said, the team is playing well. They have looked great so far. But, this is one area that could improve.

We’ve been making it happen so far; tonight we ran into the Stanley Cup Champs w/out Parse or DD. Bernier’s not “off his game”; DD2 isn’t a bust. Smytty’s not past his expiration date. It was a loss. We suck it up and we deal. Not like it’s the first loss we’ve experienced. We stand by our boys and we get ready to watch them take it all out on Dallas!

If the Kings go 6-3 out of every nine games, they’ll probably be tops in the league at year end. I’m not exactly disappointed by the start this year. What makes it even more exciting is that they could have won the games they lost. On most nights, they’re the odds on favorite to win (through nine games) and on the nights they’re not favorites, its a toss up. (Van, Chi). Its good to be a King(s fan).

Right, because if it weren’t for Bernier, we would have won that game 1-0.

Kopitar, Stoll, Williams and Brown put together had as many shots as Patrick Sharp by himself.

Turco didn’t have to stop any of the shots that Kopitar (etc.) didn’t take.

    @sstephen17,

The Hawks were not outshot by the Kings players who are likely to score. Kopitar, 2 shots. 2. Patrick Sharp, 7. See?

The Hawks shut down who they had to shut down. Kopitar and Brown.

Put it this way: in the kings three losses, Kopitar has one assist and zero goals.

any contribution at all from him turns those losses into wins.

Tough loss for the Kings, but people need to be realistic. Bernier was playing below average tonight. Was he off his game? I don’t see how anyone couldn’t see that he was struggling, not controlling the rebounds, and seemed to be just fighting the puck.

Some of it may have been bad luck, but no one can say that Bernier played up to the level that we’ve seen him able to play.

He’ll learn from these losses (hopefully, how and when to use the poke check). The Kings will have to figure out how to beat this Hawks team if they want to show they are legitimate contenders this year.

    1) Bernier loses to the Champs. He’s Jason LaBarbera 2.0.

Dude, this was one of the toughtest games I have had to watch in a LONG time where you do almost everything right, dominate on so many levels, play a symphony on the goal posts and just can’t get the win.

It’s easier to be upset when you have a reason to. I don’t have a reason other than the fact we lost the game. HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN SINCE WE AS KINGS FANS COULD SAY THAT!?!?

Our team is going to do GREAT things this season with play like tonight.

The only thing that is going to take some getting used to, although I like it, is having the d-men jump in the play offensively so much. I cringe a little when I see Drewiskie or Harrold behind the goal line, but they do it well now.

With all the pressure we had, there is no excuse for having 11 guys that can’t finish a play.

The team played another great game.

Last two games featured some of the best board work yet by the Kings. Perhaps the best in years.

    Williams has been an inspiration.

Johnson reined himself in and turned his game around. He’s playing great.

Chicago saved their a**es by crowding their net. When the Kings swarmed there was a sea of red in front of Chicago’s net.

Poni may not have the best hands but is proving to be a huge defensive asset and rotates well with activated defensemen.

Well lets trade the whole team and start all over again! Bernier could have stopped some of those shots, but he didn’t… Turco got lucky with his posts and well the puck stuck to him like metal and a magnet.

Hey, he didn’t play as well as he wanted to. We all know that. Still, he could have won if Turco didn’t stand on his head, or if one or two of those great chances was finished. While the difference was goaltending, it’s not like he sucked. He played well enough to win on most nights; it’s just that this wasn’t most nights. The same thing happens to Quick sometimes, and will happen to both of them again.

Look, JB was definitely good enough tonight — holding the champs to two goals in their own building up until the end there — it was good enough to get most wins. If we tie it up, maybe we steal the momentum and win 3-2. But we don’t so we blame JB who is playing well enough for a guy who gets in every third game.

The REAL problem is lack of team speed, being too cute with the puck, not having enough bodies in front of the net, lack of an offensive D-man since DD went out, JJ’s inconsistency, and Smyth suddenly becomming old.

Yet we are playing 667 ball so take all that with a grain of salt. We won’t win the Cup playing this way, but we WILL be a top four seed playing this way…

It’s not like he sucked, though. It happens.

Blame the offense all you want, but they put 34 shots on net (Chicago didn’t), and many of them were good ones.

    [Reply]

    Quisp Reply:

    @What’s the frequency, Kenneth?,

I’ll say it again. One goal. Not enough.

And to repeat what I just posted above,

Shots by Kopitar, Brown, Williams and Stoll, added together = 7.

Shots by Patrick Sharp by himself = 7.

Shots by Poni, Smyth, Clifford and Richie = 14.

Why do you think 42% of our shots came from the left wing?

It’s because Chicago is focusing on the other guys. Because they know the guys getting the majority of the shots are not the guys most likely to score.

It doesn’t matter if you have 34 shots, if Kopitar has 2.

    [Reply]

    BakoCAkingsCondorsGuy Reply:

But if one of those Pony, Smyth, Clifford or especially Richie shots go in, particularly during the second or early third period, this game is different–much, much different.

@Quisp, Okay…forget I put it that way…it’s just that it is what it is…sure, there were probably five other ways to win the game, but the one the area they were outperformed in was goaltending.

…but it’s no big deal, because the biggest part of the difference was Turco, not Bernier, and certainly not either offense.

    [Reply]

    Quisp Reply:

    @What’s the frequency, Kenneth?,

You can keep saying Turco stood on his head all you want. I frankly thought Turco looked clueless on about 5 pucks that went off posts or crossbars.

It’s fine with me if you want to say Turco stole that game. I don’t think he did. I think Kopitar and Brown need to shoot the puck more than once or twice a game.
