Scott Parse, who injured his groin in the first preseason game last month, continues to skate and look strong. Parse has been skating with the Kings’ fourth-line players and looks strong, but no firm date has been set for his return to the lineup.
“I don’t know when, but it’s close,” Parse said after practice today.
Before his injury, Parse had been penciled into a second-line role with the Kings. Without him, the Kings have totaled 25 goals in eight games, tied for the conference lead in goals scored, but the presumption is still that Parse will have a high-profile role upon his return.
“It’s not fun not playing,” Parse said, “but the guys are doing real well, and when I come back I just hope to contribute as much as I can and keep it going.”
Rich – it’s always surprised me that teams separate injured players from active ones. Is this the case w/ Parse, and how come they do that? Greene was saying how great it was being around the guys again. You’d think the locker room, morale, etc would benefit from keeping all of the guys together, but sometimes I get the impression they quarantine injured guys..

@Schoeny,
I remember this starting (or so I thought) with Andy Murray.
He would quarantine the injured guys and keep them separated completely.
I don’t think this is still the policy under TM.
It’s my impression that they return to the group as soon as is possible – first in a “non-checking” capacity then eased into full contact.

@8ball, Andy Murray….still holds the record for man games lost to injury in a season..SHOCKER!
What's the frequency, Kenneth? Reply:

@puck73, I still can’t figure that out, but I remember being one of the first to spot and gripe about the trend. I was told by several that it “can’t be” Murray, but hey, the trend went away when he went away too. I never did figure it out, but it seems either his system or his expectations lead to more injuries.

@8ball, from what i remember, many of the guys weren’t happy at all with that tactic (among others), and it was the start of him losing the room.

@8ball, I think it’s the “finish every check regardless if you are in a good position or not” strategy.

@LEE10, Really? So you want to break up smyth-stoll-williams to put parse back with Stoll? Dumb. You want to put Poni with kopi to put parse with Zues?? Dumb. Parse is worthless as a 4th liner. Parse puts points up, he’s not a shutdown guy or a 4th liner extra part. he will be top 6 until he proves he shouldnt be there. he was slotted at the top six in preseson. Parse had success with brown. You’ll see. Besides, would you rather have lokti or Richardson on that line with kopi and brown?? Think about the full roster.

@John,
Yeah, I would like to see Parse have a chance next to Kopitar, but he’ll probably start out on the 4th line to see if he’s up to speed. I want to keep Stoll’s line the way it is. How about Lokti, Schenn, and Richardson for a 4th line; that might generate some energy/scoring….

@John, I agree with you. Why not try Parse with Kopi and Brown? It’s not like anybody else has clearly earned the spot yet.
Richie didnt score a hat trick so there’s a spot on the top line open (facetious, kinda). there was just so much special team play in last nights game, not really surprised Richie didnt quite have the same kinda game as Sat night, hat trick not withstanding.

People talk about Parse’s scoring ability, but I think just as importantly, Scott Parse was a plus 13 last season in 59 games which means he plays a very responsible 2 way game. This is the kind of guy that DL, and TM absolutely love! For that matter, I cant wait to see him in game shape and contributing as well!

@puck73, I believe he’ll do very well…The only problem, where does Lokti go? 4th line? Hard to imagine and there’s no place for him on the 2nd & 3rd lines. He’s played pretty well up front with Kopi & Brownie….
[Reply]
@john….
That was sarcasm right? I mean, you can’t possibly say that anything but one line combination would be dumb and mean it, especially when said line combination means putting a guy who hasn’t played a game of any meaning in about six months……can you?
[Reply]
He played very well. More so when comparing scoring to minutes on ice.
With the team playing like it is I would be paralyzed as far as making a placement decision at this time.
Who would you bump to put Parse in? Loki? He’s just starting come on.
These are the type of decisions that make LL and TM who they are.

@USHA#17, I said this organization would take 6 to 9 seasons to rebuild from the back end out and here we are in Deans 5th season and we are already starting to have these “Tough” Decisions. I really hope Dean comes up to the Suites on Nov 11 to say hello because he is my favorite King as far as I am concerned. He has loaded this team with so much Character including Manchester..I am gonna enjoy this organizations consistent success for years to come thanx to the vision of Dean!

I thought the Richie-Schenn-Clifford line looked pretty good at the end of the Phoenix game.
Loki might be be the odd one out when Parse returns.
Possibly:
Parse-Kopi-Brown
Smyrh

@Djspock93, I think you’re dead on….
What do you do with Lokti?? Tough call, do you bench him?? Healthy scratch? He’s played well but you don’t want a kid with that kind of talent sitting when he can be playing every day at Manchester.
Very tough call….

Loki needs to play to improve, and possibly bulk up a lil. Best scenario would be get him some playing time in Manchester.
Riding the bench or playing every 3rd,4th game would digress his career in the NHL.

@Moondoggie,
I spent some time this weekend checking out Devils blogs, just to see if I could get a better idea of what the heck is going on over there. It sounds like MacLean is juggling lines a lot, trying desperately to find combinations that work. They’re having a lot of trouble scoring goals. Also, Kovi is seeing a lot of time at RW instead of his natural LW.
Interestingly, there are a fair number of commenters saying that the team hasn’t played well since January — i.e., before Kovi came on board. More fingers pointed at Langenbrunner than anybody else — lack of leadership (he’s the Captain), lack of heart, no hustle. Nobody exempt from criticism, except for Brodeur, maybe Parise and Zubrus.
Sounds like a real mess over there.
