Power players

The Minnesota Wild have put up astounding numbers on the power play this season. The Wild have scored 12 of their 21 goals this season while on the power play. They lead the league in power-play efficiency, at 38.7 percent, and have a 52.6 percent power-play efficiency in four home games. That will be quite a challenge for the Kings, who gave up two power-play goals at Colorado on Saturday and now rank 10th in the league in penalty-kill efficiency (87.9 percent). Terry Murray spoke, with admiration, about Minnesota’s power-play, and frankly it sounds as though Minnesota is doing everything Murray would like his own team to do…

MURRAY: “That’s incredible. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that high of a percentage before. We’re going to have to be strong with the puck when we have an opportunity to clear the puck, because they are on it right away. They recover pucks as good as anybody in the league right now. And when the recover it, it’s going right back to the net. There’s no question. It’s a shot mentality. They’re going to try to get your disorganized, and looking for those kind of plays on a consistent basis. Obviously it’s paying off for them. Fifty-three percent is incredible.”
